STORY 1: Polk County Students Explore Health Care Career Options
Polk County College and Career Academy students explored various health care careers at a fair organized by Atrium Health Floyd on November 15 at Cedartown High School. The event aimed to broaden students' understanding of health care roles beyond doctors and nurses. About 750 students from Rockmart and Cedartown High Schools attended, engaging with representatives from areas like imaging, radiology, EMS, and more. Senior Abbie Crenshaw expressed interest in becoming an EMT. Atrium Health Floyd, the official health care provider for Polk School District, supports school health services and virtual doctor visits.
STORY 2: Wildfire Risk Persists in North Georgia Despite Recent Rainfall
Georgia remains in a prolonged drought, with recent rains only slightly reducing wildfire risks. Fire Management Officer Mike Davis warns that despite the rain, vegetation remains highly flammable. Leaves and fine fuels can dry out quickly, returning to high-risk conditions within days. The public is urged to remain cautious and follow SSTAR burn requirements, which include maintaining safe distances from flammable areas and structures, burning only during daylight, and ensuring constant supervision until fires are fully extinguished. For fire restrictions, contact local fire departments or the Georgia Forestry Commission.
STORY 3: Signs of Christmas at Atrium Health Floyd
Workers used a crane to place a large Christmas tree, adorned with silver ornaments and topped with a star, on the roof of Atrium Health Floyd on Wednesday. This festive addition contributes to the growing holiday spirit in the community, as decorations begin to brighten the area for the season.
