STORY 1: West Rome man shot at woman and said he was going to shoot up his girlfriend's home

A 21-year-old man from West Rome was arrested after firing a pistol at a woman on East 16th Street and threatening to shoot up his girlfriend's home. Keson Messiah Lovingood faces charges including felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor terroristic threats, cruelty to children, and pointing a firearm at another person under the Family Violence Act. Witnesses reported the incident occurred in the presence of a two-year-old child. As of Monday, Lovingood remained in jail without bond.

STORY 2: Rosalynn Carter Dies at Age 96

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, married to President Jimmy Carter for 77 years, passed away at 96. Known for advocacy in mental health, caregiving, and women's rights, she played a pivotal role as first lady in both the White House and Georgia's Governor's Mansion. President Carter praised her as his "equal partner" and a source of guidance. Rosalynn, who recently entered hospice care, is survived by her children and grandchildren. Tributes poured in, with Governor Brian Kemp acknowledging her impact on Georgia, and Senator Jon Ossoff highlighting her dedication to public service. Funeral arrangements are pending, with donations encouraged to mental health programs or the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers instead of flowers.

STORY 3: Gas Prices Down 30 Cents a Gallon From Last Year as Thanksgiving Travel Begins

Local gas prices are among the lowest in almost a year as Thanksgiving travel begins. Prices in Floyd County are $2.72 per gallon, Bartow at $2.78, Gordon at $2.71, Polk at $2.72, and Chattooga at $2.55. Georgia's gas tax suspension of around 31 cents per gallon continues through Nov. 29, contributing to the lower prices. Georgia drivers are paying 3 cents less than a week ago, 21 cents less than a month ago, and 30 cents less than last year. The Georgia State Patrol will be out in full force during the holiday weekend, emphasizing safety on the roads. The Georgia Department of Transportation is also suspending lane closures during this period.

STORY 4: Polk County Dedicates 911 Center In Memory of Former Director

The Polk County Board of Commissioners has dedicated the county's 911 center in memory of Crystal Vincent, who served for over 26 years in the Polk County E-911 center. Vincent, who passed away at 46, had been the 911 director for more than five years. The dedication recognizes her dedication, cooperative spirit, and the impact she had on countless individuals during times of crisis. Vincent started as a dispatcher in February 1997 and played a key role in upgrading the public safety communication system between 2020 and 2022. The center is located in the Kristen Hearne Public Safety Complex in Cedartown.

STORY 5: Teen on house arrest faces second aggravated stalking charge

A 19-year-old, Nicholas Brandon Worthy, on house arrest faces an additional aggravated stalking charge for contacting a juvenile female for the second time this year. Worthy was arrested at his home after going to the girl's residence in November. This incident follows their arrest in July for entering vehicles and stealing firearms. Worthy had been previously arrested in August for contacting and attacking the girl. After being released on house arrest in September, he remains in jail without bond.
