The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office marine unit recovered the body of a man who drowned at Crab Island Tuesday.

The man reportedly jumped off a rental pontoon boat in water deeper than he had anticipated.

Destin Beach Safety helped search for this body until they had to call off their search due to lightning.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident, according to local officials.

Michele Nicholson of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said she believed it was a visitor from Texas who was in his 40s.
