View descriptionShare

Longford is Neil Kearney’s hometown and he fondly remembers the remarkable times when the country lanes were transformed every March long weekend as one of the world’s most famous racing circuits.

From his early childhood days, he remembers the biggest sporting event held in Tasmania attracting record crowds and participants.

His new book, LONGFORD – The Legend of A LITTLE TOWN WITH A BIG MOTOR, focusses on the motor racing phenomenon that attracted the worlds’ fastest racers at the time.

Several Formula One World Champions raced at Longford including Australia’s own Jack Brabham… and the book is full of stories and anecdotes of the era. …. From people in pyjamas push starting a Maserati to Braham driving his own racing car through the suburbs to get to the races on time.

The book is available at Petrarch’s Launceston, The National Automobile Museum of Tasmania, Longford Newsagency  or https://www.longfordmotorracingbook.com/
