On numerous occasions, listeners to North West Today have raised the issue of the USC Charge.

 

 This very unpopular charge was introduced as a temporary measure back in 2011 by then Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan, to replace the existing Health and Income Levies as a measure to broaden the tax base and increase revenue during the financial crisis.

 

Fast forward 15 years, and the charge is still being deducted from workers' incomes, and many want it abolished.

 

 Longford Independent councillor, Mark Casey says the government should abolish the tax in the interest of working families.
