Safer Roads Message Directed at Donegal Secondary School Students

Unfortunately, the number of young road deaths in Donegal is up sharply.

Five people aged under 25 have lost their lives on Donegal roads so far in 2026, compared with three throughout 2025.

To try to educate young people about the dangers on our roads, a major event attracted approximately 2,800 Transition Year and Senior Cycle students from every secondary school in the county.

The AXA Roadsafe Roadshow, in partnership with Donegal County Council, was held at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny on Wednesday and continues today as part of National Road Safety Week.

Inspector Sean McDaid from Roads Policing in Donegal earlier discussed the initiative on North West Today.

Safer Rods Message directed at Donegal Secondary School Students

Ireland’s Budget for 2027 was announced earlier this week.

The €8.5 billion package included €1.3 billion in personal tax measures, higher social welfare payments, childcare changes, housing measures and significant departmental spending.

It’s claimed that lower- and middle-income earners will benefit from tax cuts. The opposition parties say it does not go far enough to support people during the current cost-of-living crisis, while the Fiscal Advisory Council is also unhappy, claiming that the Budget will increase the country’s reliance on high-risk corporation tax.

Junior Minister and Sligo-Leitrim Deputy Frank Feighan and Sinn Féin finance spokesperson, Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty, shared very contrasting views on Budget 2027 on this morning’s North West Today.
