If you are unemployed in North Carolina, this week is going to be a tough one. As of Sept. 4, the federal government will no longer be paying the extra $300 in federal pandemic unemployment compensation. In addition, if you have been collecting unemployment in North Carolina for longer than 16 weeks, you will most likely no longer be eligible for unemployment insurance payments. Robert Whaples, a professor of economics at Wake Forest University, said the ending of the pandemic unemployment payments should not make that much of an impact on the economy because there are a lot of jobs available at the moment.
