The nor’easter that swept through North Carolina last weekend caused significant erosion to area beaches.

In Carolina Beach, director of public works Brian Stanberry said that a decent amount of sand was eroded away from the area of the beach south of Spartanburg Avenue, and minor erosion occurred in the mid-town and boardwalk areas.

The sand mostly stayed in place on the northern portion of the beach and in the vicinity of the rock revetment south of the pier. However, there was a significant amount of tidal overwash from the ocean side in the areas north of Sand Fiddler Lane.

There was also a significant amount of beach erosion at Wrightsville Beach, according to town manager Tim Owens. The nor’easter impacted the area far longer then Hurricane Dorian, causing more erosion than the September storm.
