After being closed nearly six years for renovations, the emergency department at the veterans' hospital on Ramsey Street is now open, officials said.
More than $8.63 million was spent to update the five operating rooms at the Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The construction began in July 2015 and was originally projected to be completed by summer 2018.
Previous leadership and engineers with the project attributed hurricanes for the construction delays — Hurricane Matthew that hit the area between September and October 2016, and Hurricanes Florence and Michael in September and October 2018.
