Randolph County reported its first death as a result of the new coronavirus Friday.
According to a press release from Randolph County Public Health, the individual died on Friday, April 3, from complications associated with the virus. The patient was reportedly in their 60s and had several underlying medical conditions.
To protect the privacy of the family, no further information about the patient will be released.
Randolph County Public Health also announced that total number of confirmed cases have reached 26 across the county, up from 19 on Thursday.
Statewide confirmed cases of COVID-19 surpassed 2,000 Friday. According to an updated count by the NCDHHS, 2,093 have tested positive in North Carolina, while 19 have died. Confirmed cases span across 86 counties.
31,598 tests have been completed by the NC State Laboratory of Public Health and reporting hospital and commercial labs. As of 11 a.m. Friday, 259 patients are currently hospitalized with the virus.
