Gastonia Police made an arrest late Monday in the homicide of a 22-year-old Cherryville man on Sunday.
Police have charged 21-year-old Jordan Tre Chambers with second-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Avery Marquavis Ponder of Cherryville.
Police investigators had identified Chambers as a person they wanted to question hours after the killing.
He was booked into Gaston County Jail under no bond at 7:16 p.m. He will make a first court appearance on Tuesday.
Police responded to the 700 block of West Hudson Boulevard around 1:55 p.m. Sunday in regard to a reported shooting.
When police arrived they found Ponder in the roadway with life-threatening injuries from a single gunshot wound.
Ponder was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, where a short time later, he was pronounced dead, according to police.
