An Onslow County Sheriff’s Office deputy was taken to the hospital following a motorcycle crash Wednesday night.
Thirty-year-old T.J. Cavanagh III, of Maysville, was off-duty at the time of the crash. He was riding his motorcycle north in the left lane on Gum Branch Road in Jacksonville when a 2004 Honda Pilot driven by 26-year-old Raishelle Peters, of Jacksonville failed to yield right-of-way at a stop sign on Settlers Circle and pulled in front of Cavanagh, according to the Jacksonville Police Department.
Jacksonville Public Safety personnel responded around 7:58 p.m. Cavanagh was transported to Onslow Memorial Hospital and then to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, according to the Jacksonville Police Department.
Cavanagh received non-life-threatening injuries and JPD said he remains in serious condition, but OCSO Col. Chris Thomas said he is expected to recover.
Peters was not injured in the crash but was cited for driving while license revoked and unsafe movement resulting in a crash causing serious bodily injury to a motorcycle operator.
