Deputies in Onslow County have arrested a suspect they say is responsible for the shooting death of Nicholas Carl Matthews.

 

Deon Leonard Townsell was arrested on Monday during a traffic stop and is accused of killing Matthews on May 27. Detectives said they were able to gather information identifying him as the suspect in the homicide, according to a release from the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.

 

Townsell has been charged with one open count of murder and was taken to the Onslow County Detention Center under no bond. His next court date is scheduled for June 22 in Onslow County district court, according to NC Courts.
