View descriptionShare

A Jacksonville man has been accused of assaulting two Onslow County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Thirty-five-year-old Robert Ellison Ravenell, of Armstrong Drive in Jacksonville, was arrested Nov. 28 by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony assault by inflicting physical injury on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor assault of a government official or employee.

OCSO received a call around 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 28 about a suspicious person near 1250 Blue Creek Road, according to OCSO Col. Chris Thomas.

A deputy arrived and found Ravenell on the road in an agitated and non-responsive state, according to Thomas. Another deputy arrived and both asked why he was upset and if he had somewhere safe to go. During the conversation, Ravenell allegedly swung at one of the deputies, Thomas said.

Ravenell has previously been convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer in November 2017, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety.
