Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals In Sanitary Towels ● A University of the Free State study found endocrine disrupting chemicals in 16 sanitary pad brands and eight pantyliner types sold in South Africa, including products labelled free from harmful chemicals. ● Phthalates, bisphenols and parabens linked to hormonal disruption, reproductive toxicity and increased cancer risk were detected in all products, often at high levels. ● Researchers warned that repeated contact with sensitive tissue makes menstrual products a significant but overlooked source of exposure and called for stricter regulation, clearer ingredient disclosure and consideration of certified or reusable alternatives.
