The Young Engineers Movement (YEM) Hackathon is a week-long programme from 22–26 June 2026, hosted by ORT South Africa in partnership with Hudaco . It brings together 55 learners and 11 teachers from underserved schools across the country to design and build technology prototypes that solve real-world problems .

Participants work in teams using sensors and microcontrollers to create functional engineering solutions. The initiative aims to address South Africa's engineering skills shortage by exposing young people to practical innovation and giving teachers hands-on STEM skills they can take back to their classrooms .

The programme concludes with an Exhibition Day on 26 June, where teams present their projects to judges, educators, and industry representatives for a chance to win prizes including laptops and tablets
