Rich Diviney, a retired Navy SEAL officer who led selection, assessment, and training at DEVGRU, joins me to discuss what separates high performers from those who struggle when things don't go as planned. Drawing from over 20 years of military service, Rich explains why skills alone don't define performance and why attributes matter most when facing stress, uncertainty, and difficult situations.

We break down the difference between skills and attributes, why resilience and perseverance are essential, how attributes influence leadership and decision-making, and why hiring based solely on resumes can lead to the wrong choices. Rich also shares how attributes can be developed through experience and deliberate effort.

Finally, we explore his approach to mastering uncertainty, including why fear comes from uncertainty and anxiety, how moving horizons help us focus on what we can control, and what Navy SEAL training taught him about performing under pressure.

In this video, I cover:
• Why skills alone don't determine performance under pressure.
• The difference between resilience and perseverance.
• How attributes influence leadership and decision-making.
• Why resumes don't always reveal the right candidates.
• How attributes like empathy can be developed.
• Why overplanning can work against you.
• How uncertainty and anxiety contribute to fear.
• How moving horizons help you manage difficult situations.
