This story can be used on the field to further the conversation around power. Some of the directions that the facilitator can take while discussing it can be through these series of questions - Who do we consider powerful? What is relative power? Where do we see structures of power around us? When do we find ourselves practising our power and how?

All the stories of Bolti Kahaniyaan can be used on the field by the facilitators and mentors to start the discussions on gender, sexuality, power, violence and patriarchy. Some of these stories are a part of Nirantar Trust’s publication called Pitara and some of them are from the world of Hindi literature. These stories can be used as a tool to speak of our inner worlds and our own experiences in the macro scheme of things. When we say field, we consider everyone who is a self-directed learner or facilitator to take it to their classrooms, libraries, youth groups, communities, literacy camps etc. The power here lies in the dissemination of these stories as you take them forward, the power is with you!

‘बोलती कहानियां’ के इस एपिसोड में प्रस्तोता स्वाती कश्यप से सुनिए भीष्म साहनी की कहानी ‘इमला’ का संपादित रूपांतरण. इस कहानी को राजकमल प्रकाशन द्वारा प्रकाशित किताब ‘भटकती राख’ से लिया गया है. 

इमला का मलतब है सुलेख-लेखन यानि लिखने का अभ्यास करना. यह कहानी हमारे सामने इस तरह खुलती है कि स्कूल के भीतर कक्षा में मास्टर रामदास बेंत झुलाते हुए फौजी जनरल की तरह चलते हैं. मास्टरजी का खौफ इतना है कि चलते हुए अगर वो किसी बच्चे के सामने रूक जाएं तो उसकी सांस अटक जाती है. एक गलती पर एक बेंत उनका उसूल है. एक दिन, एक बच्चे द्वारा बदतमीज़ी करने पर उसकी शिकायत लेकर मास्टरजी उसके पिता के पास जाते हैं. बच्चे के पिता गांव के प्रधान हैं. अब, प्रधान के सामने मास्टरजी की जो हालत होती है वह देखने लायक है. क्या होता है वहां? यह तो आपको कहानी सुनने के बाद ही पता चलेगा...

भीष्म साहनी, हिन्दी के प्रसिद्ध लेखकों में शामिल हैं. उनकी कहानियां प्रतिकों एवं बिम्बों के ज़रिए कम एवं सहज शब्दों में बहुत कुछ बता देती हैं. इमला, कहानी में भी दो अलग-अलग दृश्यों के ज़रिए वे बहुत आसानी से सत्ता के बदलते स्वरूप को हमारे सामने खोलकर रख देते हैं. 

फ़ील्ड पर या किसी समूह में इस कहानी को सुनने के बाद सत्ता या ताकत के स्वरूप पर चर्चा की शुरुआत की जा सकती है. सत्ता हमें कहां-कहां दिखाई देती है? वह कैसे इस्तेमाल की जा रही है?क्या परिस्थितियों के आधार पर सत्ता के में बदलाव आ सकता है? यह सवाल चर्चा को आगे बढ़ाने में सहायक हो सकते हैं. 

‘बोलती कहानियां’ में हर बार हम लेकर आते हैं जेंडर, यौनिकता, सत्ता, जाति, जेंडर आधारित हिंसा जैसे विषयों पर एक नई रोचक कहानी. निरंतर के पिटारे के साथ-साथ हिन्दी साहित्य के विशाल भंडारे से चुनकर निकाली गई इन कहानियों के कई उपयोग हो सकते हैं. इन्हें जेंडर कार्यशालाओं में सुनाया जा सकता है, जहां गंभीर एवं जटिल विषयों पर बातचीत के लिए ये कहानियां सहायक का काम करती हैं. इन कहानियों को स्कूली विद्यार्थियों, कम्यूनिटी लाइब्रेरी, यूथ ग्रुप्स, प्रौढ़ शिक्षा केंद्र, पुरूषों के चर्चा समूहों में भी संबंधित विषयों पर बातचीत के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है, जो आमतौर पर उनके विमर्श के केंद्र से बाहर ही रहते हैं. निरंतर ट्रस्ट ने खुद इन कहानियों का इस्तेमाल फील्ड वर्कशॉप्स में किया है और इनसे वहां कभी गहरी, कभी रोचक और कभी चौका देने वाली चर्चाएं निकलकर सामने आई हैं.
