This year National Stroke Week is held from 2-8 August. The theme for this year is 'United by Stroke', uniting us all in learning about the F.A.S.T. (Face. Arms. Speech. Time) signs of stroke. 

In 2020 around 27,500 Australians were affected by a stroke for the first time in their lives, which means that every 19 minutes one of our fellow citizens had a stroke. There are about 400,000 people living with the effects of a stroke. Stroke is one of Australia’s major killers. Many people do not know that it actually kills more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer. 

Professor John Watson, neurologist from the San, joins John Stanley to explain more.
