“There’s no such thing as a free lunch”, right? Also, “If it’s free, you’re the product.”
They’re two common, if cynical, maxims about the hidden strings attached to anything that comes with no apparent cost.
And they’re often true - usually there’s a quid pro quo for a freebie, or it’s free because someone is trying to sell you something. But it’s not always the case.
This week I went hunting for genuine freebies and I found that if you’re determined enough not to pay for things, there are still copious ways to be a ‘freeskate’ in the 21st century.
