Triple serial killer Reginald Arthurell will walk free next month after serving 23 years of his 24-year sentence.

The NSW Parole Authority decision has prompted calls from victims advocacy groups to consider either an extended supervision order or a continuing detention order.

Victims of Crime President, Howard Brown, says an extended supervision order would allow the community to be protected, with police ensuring high-risk offenders are monitored. 

He's told John Stanley these types of orders can help when lengthy sentences don't do enough to protect the community,
