Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic (often lasting a life time) condition both in Australia and around the world. It’s been called a pandemic.

1.1-million Australians are currently diagnosed with diabetes, 280 new cases are diagnosed every day and by 2031 more than 3.3 million Australians will have it. Around the world it’s expected this will rise to close 592 million people by 2035. 

The current annual cost to the Australian economy is estimated at $ 6 billion per year.
Of equal concern is that more than half the Australian population with type 2 don’t realise it and are living with it undiagnosed…this can lead to more long term damage to their health.

The good news is that close to 60% of diabetes could be prevented or at least delayed if the risk is diagnosed and action is taken to prevent it. And for those that do have it advances in technology and management means that people with diabetes can stay healthy and lead an active life.
