GMFB Tuesday Hour 1: Jets lose again, Bijan Robinson JOINS! Ownership meetings

Published Oct 15, 2024, 3:55 PM

Hour One of the Good Morning Football Podcast begins with hosts Jamie Erdahl, Peter Schrager, Kyle Brandt, and Akbar Gbajabiamila reacting to the Buffalo Bills victory over the New York Jets - who’s to blame for the Jets struggles this season? Falcons RB Bijan Robinson joins the show and talks about how fun it is playing for Atlanta's offense and the different opportunities he’s had off the field. Later, they receive an update from NFL Insider Judy Battista who’s at the NFL ownership meetings.

Hey, everybody, welcome to you. Good morning football.

We are live here in La as we always are.

It's Tuesday, October fifteenth.

This is akwar baj Bamilla. That's Peer Schrager. That is Kyle Briant's on the TV. Last night you saw a sat Aaron Rodgers, which never is going well, but it's going to become kind of a frequent thing. It feels like it's been three weeks straight. Peter that Rogers has the ball in hand and he is there to deliver hope and good fortune for the Jets.

And my goodness, New York did not have a great night last name.

Well, it was good at points, and there was a funhil Mary and there was some great celebrity sightings. And then ESPN wrote everyone, I'll tell you who was there.

I was there. You know who else was there? Kyle Brant was there.

We made the did We both drove home into the late night listening to the radio call and Kevin Harlan took us home.

All right, the Jets fighted their coach on the right, that's the new head coach. On the left, that's new play caller Rogers.

And Allen to California.

Dudes, two AFC.

East guys now twenty three to twenty.

The Jets are two and four.

Like I just said, the Jets are two and four, but guys.

Bill's four and two.

Bills needed this one bad as well.

Afterwards, let's hear from both of those quarterbacks after a pretty cool, pretty crazy Monday night game.

Our number one goal is to make the playoffs, and you do that by winning your division. So we understand the gravity of this type of game. Us being four and two, a two and a half game lead with the head to head win, as opposed being three and three and being second place. So big, big game for us in terms of where it stands in the grand scheme of things. Though, it was the next one and that's why it was the most important. And we'll turn our attention to Sunday.

Well, I think there's concern, but that's important, you know, we need to need to get going. This was a goal and opportunity. Some games you win in the NFL and some games you give away. This was a giveaway. I mean, we were terrible in the red zone, missed two field goals, didn't convert on a two minute drive with plenty of chances, had the momentum, had good drives, moved them all up and down the field, so disappointing. Should have been a thirty plus point game on offense, and this should even be a conversation.

Wow this, I mean, this game had everything you wanted. Josh Allen, I think he had everything to prove in this game, especially when you think about the fact that they were coming off a two game losing streak to the Ravens they lost to the Houston Texans. This was his opportunity, not only for himself, but also too for the Buffalo Bills. I mean, they were coming into this game an AFC East Divisional matchup, going up against the Jets. This is the same place where Aaron Rodgers got hurt against the Bills.

All the storylines were.

Kind of facing towards the Jets, and Josh Allen came out in this game and ball He says, like, you guys are not about to make this about something else outside of me defending and making sure that I get this AFC East title. Like he said, there are two games up in this situation in the AFC East.

But I love his fight in his grit. He started this game.

Out hot, especially in that first half, he had a rushing touchdown, He's throwing for touchdown. He just showed to me that he is the dude in the AFC East. And this is a Buffalo Bills team that I think even with guys without having you know, Cook there, he was making things happen without his main guys, and that to me is the leader that you need in the AFC East.

Well, I feel like I have to give the Bills some love this morning because of the win and where they needed to keep play. Josh Allen made it. It was third and four at the end of the game. The Jets make a stop, they get the ball back and Josh Allen goes right behind Dion Dawkins, looks at Michael Clemens in the face, those guys were talking, and he gets the first down. And the Bills are a winning team. The Bills are winning franchise. The Bills are a team that can find a way to win when they have to.

On the other side of the ball.

I can't help but feel about zero out of ten if you're a Jets fan this morning, because there were a million chances to put this game away. There were red zone opportunities at Aaron Rodgers reference. There were touchdowns that were called back because of penalties. Oh, and then the penalties. Am I I allowed to talk penalties?

I know, we worked for the NFL network.

There were a lot of penalties last night, twenty two in total for two hundred and four yards.

Now, you get different crews week to week, it's by luck of the draw you get this game.

This happened to be a crew that enjoyed throwing a lot of flags last night.

Unfortunately for Jets fans.

They threw them both ways, so you can't even complain this morning.

The Bills got a lot.

Rogers talked about it after the game, roughing the passer call that was in his benefit.

He didn't even like take ales into Rodgers.

That seemed a little ridiculous. Yeah, some of them seemed really bad, including the rough in the passer around me, and that's not rough in the passer as well, play sarcasta ball if we're gonna call those things. And I thought the one on Kin Long was not rough in the passer either.

So you don't hear that.

You don't hear that often. And maybe he'll get fined and maybe we'll go from there. And I'm sure he will, and then he'll say, Okay, fine.

I'm sure you take it.

This is the thing you don't know. Olbrick coach a great game. Todd Downing's play calling was excellent. You didn't hear anyone booing Hacket like. It was a completely different feel to the Jets.

And yet the.

Score twenty three twenty is the same as it's just been the last few years. And at the end of the day, this is so simple. Your kicker needs to make field goals. Greg Zerline makes a lot of money. These kicks were brutal.

It was wendy Peter.

It was windy, sure swirling. It was windy this day. It was raining against Denver. If he makes the kick against Denver, they win not game. If he makes one of these kicks, they probably win this game.

They weren't even long.

Thirty two.

So in conclusion with my thesis, here's a statement thesis statement in summary, the Jets have The Jets have twenty points last night. They should have had forty points last night. Penalty has killed them. Kicker killed them. Rogers killed them with a bad interception at the end, and then at the very last play, Josh Allen killed him because that's Josh Allen. He's an assassin and he gets a done win and the Jets, they simply couldn't.

Did Rogers come with the interception or was it the team made of Rogers?

They killed him with the interception Rogers.

Look, he said it afterwards, like Mike ran the wrong route, like he fell down, like he's calling the guys out. Rogers is not here for any bs. Listen the narrative of the Jets needed this game so badly. Of course they fired their coach and their sub five hundred. The Bills needed it really badly too. I don't know if anybody remembers how weird and how horrible that last Bills game was against the Texans. It might be the worst game Josh Allen's ever played, completely discombobulated, can't hit anything, historically bad stats, and their narrative was, see, you shouldn't let things go. You have no weapons, you can't score, you can't do anything. They really needed it bad and Josh Allen was unbelievable in the first half last night, finding the second half unbelievable. It's some of the excitement in the the extracurriculars, and Peter mentioned the run at the end when he's getting up and sprinting. He was talking a lot of crap last night, the advantage of being at the game, and I wish someone could go see a Josh Allen game at some point. Look at this, he's running thirty yards downfield the franchise quarterback. There's so many things on the broadcast you don't see every after every good play. And he was constantly finding bills fans in the stands and hyping them up and doing stuff like this.

He was so riveted.

He is this two hundred and forty pound labrador who's just wagging its tail, knocking it on the walls. He was so fired up and he got it and he was fantastic in the first half. The thing is about this game is that if you look through the newspapers here in New York, like, there is no blood on Rogers hands, not from the writers here and ronestly, if you watch the game, Roger was very good. If you want to go and put it on Rogers and say he blew it again, no no, no, no, no. Rogers did a lot of incredible things. He pulled another miracle out of his hat on the Hail Mary. He threw a touchdown in the second half to Garrett Wilson, which is a tough play, but he dropped. Rogers was not the fault here. The defense was crap tackling. They couldn't tackle anybody. The Bills are running all over him with backup running backs, and.

They couldn't make a field goal and they couldn't score.

Like the offense still has issues with all the yards you got. Breeze got one hundred yards, Garret's got one hundred yards, twenty points like they had.

They had one.

Touchdown in their offense. The other touchoun was a hail Mary one touchdown and Rogers was playing really, really well. So it's like the Bills are a much better team. They have a much better record. And I detest the same old Jets. I detest it, I really do. I think it's pathetic. But you wake up this morning and that's what people say. You know what I woke up to this morning, Jets fans that foul saying, all right, pay Hassan Reddick whatever he wants and get Davonte.

It's this ridiculous.

Just put more people on the field, No, Like, why winnable game?

Well, Mike Williams was their big free agent signing, and he ran the wrong route and.

He dropped another peal up.

So it's thing at the end of the London games.

Yeah, I also would say, I'm at the game and I don't know if I'm revealing, you know, nuclear secrets here go ahead. Woody Johnson and Drew Rosenhaus on the field before the game, talking for a.

Solid three minutes.

Rosenhaus, you know, had access up there was talking to Woody and I'm sure it's about us on Reddick and let's have this conversation. And you know, you walk away and I'm walking off the.

Field and I see Drew. I say, hello, what's up you alay talk about?

Yeah, we talked, you know, And it's like before the game, You're like, if they win this game and they're three and three, then just pay Reddick whatever.

Now they're two and four. Are are you still paying Reddick whatever?

Are You're like, Reddick, you know, maybe he does this thing just keeps on piling up. What a miss last night for the Jets in their home building, the place ready to explode, and they hit about thirty chances to put this game away and they didn't. Greg Zerline has to make one of those kicks as well.

Has to one of the issues at hand. I think is just a timing problem between the wide receivers and Aaron Rodgers. And it was interesting for me to see it firsthand in London last week and then watched it on the broadcast copy on Monday Night Football, and that to me, that final Mike Williams are out the drop ball whatever, that's a pure timing issue. You have to think that's something that gets alleviated if he has I don't know, somebody that he played with before in Green Bay arrive and like they just know each other, they know each other really well. There is time running out on the Jets and then figuring this out within their season, within their division. This is the first time and we know this allah Aaron Rodgers saying after a dozen weeks in Green Bay, we will make the playoffs. I will will this team into the situation. This is uncharted territory for Aaron Rodgers, the first time in his career he's had a losing record through six games. He looks dejected for a reason. This is a very hard hill to climb and he's staring on the other side of the field at a quarterback of a team that he's going to have to come back and beat again later in this season if they can get all these issues figured out.

Dion Dawkins is kind of fun last night.

Oh yes, when.

The lights went out, I just want to kind of quick go around the table and the character that we all know and love, as schnowman on Dean Dawkins and what you guys saw firsthand and some of the extra curriculars that happened when the lights were out.

Well, I remember back in training camp.

We were at Jets camp and Peter and I went and we talked to Solomon Thomas and we were like, here's Dion. We read them a quote about like that he doesn't like the Jets personally, does not like them at all as people.

He doesn't like them.

And Salmon's like, that's funny coming from a guy who's running around with a shirt off on Instagram and he thinks we're not about football. This is no love lost thing here, Dion, and Dawkins is a great character. I'm sure he's highly annoying if you're playing against highly and there was big time stuff going on last night people.

Well, he and Michael Clemens were going at at all game long, talking the entire time, and then the final play.

Of the game, it's like, you know, here he goes.

This is during the darkness, of course, and seventy two that's Quinn ninety five. Seventy two from the Jets is Clemmens, and he was talking throughout the game with them, and then the final play of the game, Dawkins gets the last laugh because they run right behind him and there's there's Josh Allen running around Michael Clemens, who's a you know, a tough big guy, and there's no love loss between that player and those defensive linemen.

Yeah, he thinks they're tough guys.

And he does it with the rolled eyes, which is like the ultimate insult.

To anyone wants some I candy.

On social media this morning, Dean Dawkins posted a video and again I said yesterday, not much in the in the wrestling.

Department for me.

But there's the famous clip of the guy who's like going off the ropes this way and then that way, and then he drops this. But Deon Dawkins put his face over that guy and the other guy's Michael Clemens laying on the ground. Yeah, it's it's on Dean Dawkins Instagram right now, look at it before he takes it down out Ron blasts, all right, we know there's a guy watching our show right now who's chuckling and his name.

Is be John Robinson. He's coming on the show. Good morning, cooball.

He's a friend of ours, He's a friend of Falcons fans.

That's for sure.

Massive weekend for the Falcons and any guy who sits in their running back room last weekend divisional win over the Panthers.

We're gonna chat with b John coming up.

They're gonna hate the ball left side.

Here's for Sean Robinson touchdown Atlanta Pasheon.

Robinson on a quick snap, start standing quick Robinson left Sidejon.

Inside the pot.

Planings into the inZone were the Atlanta touchdown.

Always smiling and then sometimes for Bijon Robinson and turns into like a cheshire cat smile because he knows what.

He's about to do to you.

Coming off a big two touchdown weekend for the Atlanta Falcon.

What's Jon?

Awesome to see you, Awesome to hear from you on the show.

So let me ask you this.

Two weeks ago, Kirk Cousins messes around and sets a new franchise record. Then you and Tyler Aljier rush for a combined two hundred yards. Are you guys having as much fun playing in the system as we are enjoying watching it because it is electric?

Yeah, I mean absolutely, Just it's like just showing the balance that we have as an offense. You know, obviously with Kurt you know passed for the yards that he did a couple of weeks ago, like that was just amazing. And then just just me Tie, you know, doing what we did, you know, this past couple of days. But you know, it's just fun to to really be a part of something you know that you can, you know, just show your skill talents on and not just you know, one guy, but everybody on the offense. And obviously, like the old line is, you know the most important part of this whole thing, and they're you know doing as well as you know I've seen before.

But you know, it's just a.

Really good a good mix of run, pass and balance.

And you know, you never know what's gonna come.

But yeah, I'm having a good time, you know, you know, playing for for Zach Robinson offense.

I can tell and it shows and you guys are winning and it's very cool. It's one thing to be part of a running back tandem and have to hype up your fellow running back, and you've done that and you're very good at it.

It's another thing.

To sit down for an interview and the segment before is eight minutes of screaming about that other warning him a sep John you we're watching this segment.

You just Tyler, just one angry runs.

Did we get the call right? And do you want to do like some sort of acceptance speech on his behalf because you were watching.

Absolutely you know Tyler man, Bro, you know how you know how much work we put in. You know this is an amazing accomplishment, you know, and I know you're going to get it as soon as it happened.

Bro.

I love you, man, and I hope you accept this award with all confidence and happiness.

And let's go. Let's go, let's go get another one.

Yeah, let's go. Speech.

That's uh, Djon, thank you for joining the show as always, Uh we love the NFL, but this is Texas Georgia Week.

Have you had a chance to.

Do a little bit of pre gaming and viewing on this one?

It's the college football game of the year.

What are your thoughts as we head in as a former Longhorm legend.

Yeah, so I've been I've been on a couple of bets already, Like I've been on or five bets, just like frintly bets, Like I'm not really money better I'll do I'll do like push ups or some type of workout.

Yeah with you.

You got in that squad. Who's Georgia guy on that team?

So so I got Charlie, I got Lorenzo, and then I got like three other other people that's not on the team that I'm really that. I'm really I don't know why I did all that, but I just have so much that we're about to win. They're gonna win, like and it's in Austin, so like, yeah, it's it's gonna be. It's gonna be a Texas win and we're all going to be celebrating.

Okay, the right way, all right? I like that.

Man, So, Bijon, you're a top ten rusher right now in the league, but you're making your way up as a top ten actor because you just made your your debut on Outer Banks Season four, episode two. Man talk about that experience. Man, what made you get into this world?

Yeah?

Yeah, So you know, I've always kind of wanted to be in the world, like since since high school.

You know, I've always just had an interest in it and just to liken to it.

But actually it was like, how that opportunity came upon was my best friend, Uh it's Pope on the show. So you know, we've been best friends for for a long time now.

That's a brother of mine and we know we talk every day.

But you know, it's pretty cool because the director of the show, Jonas, he's a huge Falcons fan, So how that worked out was cool awesome, Like he knew I kind of wanted to get into acting a little bit, especially like in the off seasons, and he just came over and was like, you know, let's put the shot on the show.

And obviously, like that was just such a.

Cool opportunity because I think Our basis the number one show on on Netflix and I think it is right now. The fact that I get to like kind of just being there first, being there for a second and like like get everybody's eyes like whoa Like was that yeah.

You got the bug? Now you got the bug?

Yeah?

It was cool.

It was cool. I was like, oh, shoot, like next season, I gotta I gotta do.

This is a good okay good, And I think I think the opportunity will probably present itself for the next season too.

You're so impressive because other coaches, let's say, especially first time had coaches, they could be I don't know, concerned, like oh my young running back he's doing all this stuff. But then you produce on the field, so it just washes away any issue that you might have with this. And you're developing yourself and you're growing, and I think you're setting a really cool example for your teammates and young players who want to dabble in this other stuff. Spin Zone with b Jon Robinson, Now this is another take on your life outside of football.

What is spin Zone? Just describe it for us.

Yeah, So, so I think the cool thing is, like, you know, for me, like doing all this stuff like during the offseason, like because now I have a real off season, so I have like some time to you know, dabble into different things. But spin Zone is is my new DJ series you know that we did obviously before the season, and I got to like work with a lot of different DJs and you know, it was just it was really a really fun just moment just to you know, hear hear how they started and then they could like teach me for a little bit on their DJ techniques and their sets and everything. And I get to just like kind of just be a sponge and learn from them because I do want to you know, do djaying on the side as well, because I just love music and I love you know, the form of how they you know, can pretty much captivate a crowd. So you know, it was cool like to to talk to some DJs and to you know, go on go on the stage and actually do like a little performance with Austin Mills.

Was fun.

But yeah, I also want to just want to keep learning and keep on just becoming us, you know, doing as much as I can, but obviously keeping football the main thing is the main.

Goal, the franchise and put a lot behind the Kirk Cousins birthday playlist. You might have seen it in the feature a lot of Matchbox twenty little three doors down in a DJ battle between you and Kirkoh, who.

Do you got?

Absolutely me? Absolutely me?

Now now k he you know he's been on this art a little longer than I have. So he has no more music than.

I think.

I think I'll challenge him, but both Definitely. I'll even put some of the songs on his list in my in my playlist too. But yeah, I think I'll get him in that one.

Oh nice Jon Byjon I was. I am an outer Banks fan, and I do like the character Pope. I do want to know, like, is there any behind the scenes stuff you want to share with us? And did you go to your boy Matthew McConaughey for any acting advice.

I know you guys are tight.

Yeah, any behind the scenes stuff, but there are romance, Jon, there's not too much.

Didn't climb and say anything you can share with me.

You're not not too much like I was. I was really just on the water looking at dolphins the whole time.

Throwing off your muscles. That's pretty good, That's what I say.

That's what I call yes, showing the jeon.

It's excellent, it's excellent. We'll get you out of you. I don't have to go.

Away.

Always McConaughey for like advice, and he always like it gives me. That gives me that good little little titch of of what to be successful in that business.

But for the for the for the outer baks On, it was just me on my own. I was like, let me just try this on my own.

I go tell me green lights on authentically.

Bjon.

We love you, Bjeon.

Come on anytime, man, and we said it before next summer when you're you're signing your big Hollywood deal, just come on for a couple of days on GMTP.

We'll have you in studio in.

La Sure, okay, but I appreciend gods.

Make al here.

Share that s with you A look at bijon Spin Zone with Bijean Robinson, a man of many, many talents, mostly running the football from September to February. Let's just take a beat from the low hanging fruit of talking about the Jets and what happened on Monday Night football and go to Judy Batista, who's in Atlanta for the Fall League meeting. Judy, what's on tap for ownership?

It's all today.

Good morning, Jamie, Good morning everybody back there.

Well, what's on tap?

I think the headline that's probably going to come out of this meeting is Tom Brady. Tom Brady is likely to be voted in as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Traders. This is something that's actually been in the works now for a couple of years. It would be about a ten percent stake with Brady and a partner. He's not going to have any control over the franchise, but certainly, in addition to his work with Fox Sports now, it solidifies his ties to the NFL post retirement. So I think Tom Brady is going to be the big news. We are also expecting we could get another Super Bowl location. That would mean we know the next four Super Bowl sites if we get one here, and then we're going to get update on league matters. We're certainly going to hear more about the dynamic kickoff and how the Competition Committee feels it's been going. They're getting returns, About little over thirty percent of kickoffs are being returns, which is an improvement from last season, which was at about twenty two that was historically low, but it's certainly nowhere near the number of returns they want to see, and so I suspect we will hear what they are thinking about in terms of tweaking. Any tweaks would come after the season, but certainly there's a feeling that some changes are going to be needed to the kickoff. We're also likely to be talked to about the decline in scoring.

That's not just a one year blip.

It's been happening for a few years now.

Generally that's not.

Something that the NFL likes to see.

They usually likes scoring to go up, up, up, So we'll hear what they think about that, and then we will get some health and safety updates. We'll hear more about the injuries coming out of the preseason and concussions. So really just an update kind of meeting here in Atlanta, and we will keep you posted.

All right, Judy, thank you so much. We appreciate you. You mentioned the Super Bowl. We always love that big reveal. We got New Orleans, San Francisco, LA on tap, so finding out the fourth after that would be really cool. Omar Ruwie is joining us this morning on GMFB. Good warning to you, Omar. Detroit's been kind of a tough place to play. That would be a really fun Super Bowl site.

Omar, Yeah, it used to be in the Superdome once upon time, and we remember the Lions over the weekend, one of the biggest regular season wins they've had in franchise history down in Dallas, but ultimately that may be remembered for what they lost.

The Lions suffering a huge.

Loss in their win over the Cowboys as pass rusher Aiden Hutchinson suffering a broken tibia andphibula and is expected to miss the rest of this season. The NFL sacklier this season, Hutchinson will travel back to Detroit this week. He had successful surgery in the Dallas area and is expected to make a full recovery. Head coach Dan Campbell saying he'd never count Hutchinson out from returning earlier than expected, and added despite the big loss, he still thinks this Lions team can make the Super Bowl.

Listen, my job is to coach what's here, and I'm going to coach the hell out of him. And we are as a staff, and.

So yeah, I do.

And if we get some money, great, If we don't. These are guys and the coaches know that this is what we came into camp with. This is why we develop talent, and this next man up, they got to be ready to go.

You know, there's no quit there.

And in Miami, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirming for the first time Monday that he expects quarterback to Atungyo Bailoa to play again this season, to us still on injured reserve with that concussion suffered in weeks.

There is a demon playing heavy metal guitar, and there is a running back named Tyler Algier. This fifteen yards of pure destruction won him the.

Angry Run Scepter.

Guys, you can now play with Algier or anyone you like really on Madden.

It's real, it's happening.

Angry Runs is on Madden.

You want to play in the Ultimate Team mode, which is so fun and so crazy. There's all kinds of different players from different eras.

You turn it on and.

Jerry Rice is on the Bears, next to Calvin Johnson.

It's just madness.

Roger Craig on there, he is Roger Craig on the Saints.

Make sure he's sending your videos on Madden.

Playing with Alzier, He's going to be super powerful.

He's going to run over everybody.

If you watch a lot of football, you know he is one of the hardest runers in the league. Right now, get into Madden NFL twenty five Dominate with Alzier. That sceptor winner an Ultimate Team starting tomorrow.

On whatever your gaming system may be.

We love that Madden, though.

Wele can I get your official professional parenting opinion on whether or not small children should watch Angry runs because I'm considering putting my five and three year old in.

Front of the TV.

There's been this movement lately where people are putting their young children right in front of the TV and watching me scream for seven minutes.

I would probably think it's not the best. And yet there's worse things out there.

You know.

There are all these videos to these babies. They hand them lemons, and the babies are like that personally. That's what this is. Do this. That's my girl, Lily. If you set your chance rowing down her bottle every run.

Yeah,
