Good Mom, get in here. This is Good Morning Football.
We're here all day, presented my Old Trapper Live in Los Angeles and New York.
It's Thursday, November twenty.
First look at everybody who's at the table, of course, Acorpager, be a Milla, Peter Schriker, Kyle Brant, Manti Teo, and I am Jamie her at all. Manti, great to see you. I love your salute to service Pin. The place been disapeccable.
Yes, I had to raise it a little bit because they started to look like a nipple piercing for a while, so I had to raise it just a little bit.
It has to be a salute, you know.
I'm sure the guys in New York are worried about the same as well. Everybody looks great this morning. We have a lot to talk about ahead of this weekend. Anyone I like to cover this before we start, anyone of things. They have to get off their chess before the show begins. Things you're going to talk about, Shrakes. I'm looking forward to trivia today.
I've got a great trivia segment for everyone. At home for today. And I am actually very excited for an old rivalry matchup between the Broncos Okay, right, Broncos and the Raiders this week. I think that's an interesting one because I think the Raiders could play spoilers. So just starting that out there here, I think brock Bauer is going up against show.
That's how we're starting this Thursday. Broncos Raiders.
Kyle, I don't find it.
I hope I don't have to apologize for this. I'm looking forward to Niners Packers.
That's fair too.
That's just me though.
And by the way, I like the pin right there in that spot. It's part of the reason I'm wearing it's great.
You know.
And I gotta say I like the Harball guys, like the Harmball brothers. You know, there's something about that just that the brother the sibling rivalry, like that stuff seems fun to me. And I know they're talking trash, you know, so it's gonna be fun.
We're also gonna have Andrew Whitworth on the show.
We got a good lineup of guests.
But let's begin in this big and I've seen matchup that's going down at lambeau Field or as I think Kyle said yesterday, Levi East or something like that.
It's happening this.
Weekend as the San Francisco forty nine Ers taken on the Green Bay Packers. These two teams, ooh, do they have history. They've got history, specifically meeting in the playoffs.
Let's just take a quick look back. What is the San Francisco forty nine Ers against the Green Bay Packers.
The history of the series is never avolved playoff games.
What a throw by Brett Farr is the best passer at football.
To it a no moment of the searching for the Packers right now?
Will the forty nine Ers ever be able to beat the Packers?
When accounts in the playoffs? The Packers back to the Super Bowl, a series that's been dominated by the Green Bay Packers. Will it change this afternoon, y'all throws.
To the end zone.
The Packers have turned back the San Francisco forty nine Ers. Here today, Big forty nine Camrick Chiefs and peas unsail.
What thank you?
The Niners take complete control of the forty nine Ers play on in January.
A lot of that.
Blood between these two teams is rivalry is revamping.
Orcus has park not him into the air. Special teams killing the Packers.
You have to be kidnaping.
That's always fun when someone says you have to be kidding me. It's like what just went down for someone to warrant them saying that, here's the NFC playoff picture.
What is about to go down?
How will these teams jockey for position as the second half of the season comes to be. But the thing is the forty nine Ers and the Packers, they sit where they do ahead of this matchup. Peter Early thoughts on what's going down at Lambo this weekend. Pack forty nine Ers sit a five hundred. The Packers are seven and three.
I'm watching that twenty twenty one divisional game highlight where the forty nine Ers, you know, come in there as the big underdogs. It snuck into the playoffs at the end, and they go into green Bay and Rodgers is it's he's smoking the cigar and he's kicked back, is feeling good, and they come into their building and that's when they ran Trent Williams in motion and that's when the special teams has absolutely failed green Bay And I'm like, don't I don't even recall, this is not that forty nine Ers team right now. That team came in and they were hungry and disciplined and we're ready.
To take on it.
This forty nine Ers team this year loses games they should win and that they've typically won.
They lost last week to the Seahawks at home.
In a game where they were winning most of the game, and they let Gino Smith just march right downfield and go to the distance. When brock Perty needed to make a big play, he overthrew Deebo Samuel when Deebo was going underneath. The only guys that have really been playing above what they played.
Last year in San Francisco.
Probably, I would say Juwan Jennings has evolved into like the superstar player. He's been outstanding and maybe perty because he's been carrying this team on his back. McCaffrey's getting back, but we still don't see hundred percent Christian McCaffrey. I look at the defense. Bosa's clearly hurt. He's out there and he's barely getting by with those hip and the oblique injuries.
You could obviously tell that he's not himself.
And they're five and five, they're a five hundred team who has lost to the Arizona Cardinals this year, who has lost in crazy fashion to the Los Angeles Rams and has now lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the division. I don't have that feeling of the guys with the boom box and coming off the bus and you don't want to face Trent Williams. This is a mediocre Niners team and they are worse than they were last year. They played five winning teams in their last seven games, teams of winning records. Packers are one of them. Now or never, guys like turn it on or maybe we talk about let's see what else we've got to do this offseason because a five and five Niners team. I saw this and I sorry to eat up all the time.
I know we got a lot of people here.
Good right now, they're twenty seven percent chance to make the playoffs right now, not great on the outside looking in.
A win bumps them to fifty percent. We're alive.
A loss brings them down to the teams like thirteen percent. Huge game tonight, huge game, And if if we're being honest, the last team I want to see in the playoffs or the San Francisco forty nine ers with all their experience, and.
If McCaffrey gets going and they can get everywhere.
But right now, if I'm the Packers, I'm not at all scared of this team coming in and shocking you like they did a couple of years ago in the playoffs.
You know, you're right, they should be scared. They absolutely should be scared. You said it that they're playing very mediocre, and it is surprising because we know what the forty nine ers are capable of doing. But I think that the way they're going to kind of set this thing straight with the forty nine ers the Packers, They're going to run the ball. And I think this is where they're going to utilize Josh Jacob and what he's been doing. He has been crushing it. He's going to take these dudes to school. And I really love what these guys have really done, especially on the run scheme. They have been so dominant. You know, running the ball is not just about controlling the clock. It's dominant, and I think that's how they're going to us hurt their dominances team.
And I know the forty nine ers.
Have a really good defense, but it's very interesting when I watch the Packers, and you look at them on film and you see that the way they use schemes, the way they schematically try to create distancing, open up lanes, the offensive line up front, they have just been pushing dudes around. When you watch that. There's a reason why Josh Jacob has been the most explosive and one of the most explosive players when it comes to run the run game. He's had so many explosive runs, and I think we're going to see that again in this game. I like the Packers to really just punch it to the forty nine ers and get them below five hundred.
You know.
I like everything that Peter said. I like the fact that he talked about how it just looks a little it just looks a little rough right now over there in San Francisco, And he identified one person, Jawan Jennings, as probably being the lone star there for the San Francisco for nine ers, And I think I like to make an argument that Jowan Jennings, out of everybody on that for the Niners offense, is the only one that has consistent.
Been there with brock Purty.
And there's no surprise, there's no surprise to me why that connection seems to be the only connection that's been working.
For the San Francisco forty nine ers.
You think about Christian McCaffrey, this is just his third year, his third week back from being on IR. You look at Deebo Samuel and that connection with brock Party that's been a little off, and you start to think about, well, Deebel's been in and out a little bit. George Kittle was out last week, so you can go down the list. Ricky Pearsol was out for a while, Trent Williams is on and off the field. And when you have all of these guys, and that's not even considering the IR squad, their whole IR squad could beat a lot of active squads today. You think about what they have and what they're dealing with.
Not only do they not have a lot of.
Their pieces, but the pieces that are there that are constantly going in and out, you're not You're not able to create that relationship and that chemistry that we've been so used to seeing for the past few years. And I know earlier in the year, during the preseason, I said that this San Francisco forty nine Ers team does not look the same, and I got a lot of heat from it from a lot of family members.
But I think we can sit here at week eleven, week twelve, whatever it is, and all agree.
That this isn't the same San Francisco Forda Niners team that we've been used to seeing under Kyle Shanahan. And you know, a lot has to do with their history and and how how how many miles this this San Francisco Forda Niners train has on them. But then also the guys that they have a lot of guys out, you know, and and and and it's hard to put together a championship team when you don't have all your pieces. So this is gonna be a big challenge for them on on on Sunday, going on with going against a very healthy Jordan Love who looks very different, and it's going to be exciting.
Niners are fascinating right now. I'm gonna talk to them in a second. But I think the Packers, I think they're in a great spot.
I like where the Packers are at.
For whatever reason, this Packers team just just doesn't pop or click. It's a weird thing when you see that logo and that record. I can't remember a time we've talked about a Packers team at seven and three less than this, with that type of history and that type of franchise and that type of success they've had.
And I like it.
And I know it's a little bit because the Lions suck all the oxygen and out of the NFC North and to an extent sort of the Vikings and even the Bears. The Packers had an incredible last minute win last weekend and they're given no credit nothing. It's been all about the Bears. I like where the Packers are at. They're very, very under the radar, even at seven and three for that team, which is tough. I think if they smack the Niners tonight, it's welcome to the conversation and can we talk about the Packers winning the NFC. But for now, I like exactly where they are. As for the Niners, I listen, Peter has a great relationship with forty nine Ers and all the organization and all their staff and all their coaches. I hope that they played Peter's take before the team before the game tonight, because Peter was sitting here being like, real talk, here's what you are and here's what you aren't.
There's a lot of takes out there about.
The Niners right now, a lot.
I saw one of them that was, you.
Know what, this physical style of play they have their personnel is just kind of getting old.
I don't know if they could do it anymore.
Niners.
I would say, the hell with that, Peter, you lose this game, start thinking about the offseason.
Niners, I would say, the hell with that. Manta.
I see Manta is getting aggregated all over.
The internet for saying they look emotionally drained. The hell with that.
I would say to the forty nine ers, you're five and five. That team that went into Lambo in twenty twenty one that Peter said he doesn't recognize was three and five, and they.
Made it to the title game.
The next year they were three and four, and they made it to the title game. Last year they went a whole month without winning a game and they made it to the Super Bowl.
And I get it. Injuries. The Niners were the book on injuries.
They get out of bed in the morning with some terrible injury to some terrible, really important player that they have. This is perfect if you are right where you want to be. This is a classic Niners season. There's too many injuries, you're too old, it's not working perfect.
And guess where you're going.
You're going to Levi Stadium North that you own, that you are more comfortable in. Get up, shut up, ball out beat the Packers, and we'll be sitting here in January like, well, there they are, the Niners back in the title game. They overcame the injury, they found their mojo. They had a crappy record in the middle of the season like they almost always do, and here they are. They put it together. I can't let go of this team. I can't do it. I said it yesterday, I'll say it again. Injuries, age, sluggishness, emotionally drained. I think they'd go into Lambeo and win tonight. I like the Niners in Lamba.
Kyle, what the forty nine ers have been through over the last couple of years.
I like them Sunday Sunday yesday, so we wanted tonight night.
Yeah, Kyle, it almost like the forty nine ers said that same affect that you were talking about with Bears fans and how like they have a block field goal to win and you're just like, I feel nothing like the forty nine Ers, to your point, everything that has happened to them emotionally physically over the last five years, Like they just get up, they beat teams, like they get to January and they're just like, until we're in the NFC Championship, we will show no emotion. But whatever, or they'll get there and if we're and if they do, we won't be surprised because of their personnel. Old if they maybeat Tom Pellasaro.
Good morning to you.
Please, please please make your list as short as possible. For the injuries as it pertains to the Packers and the forty nine Ers playing at Lambeau this weekend.
Well, the last ten minutes about tonight's big forty nine Ers Packers game was certainly enlightening.
Some people.
Be buried. Forty nine Ers the show.
Whenever you want, toy, it happens.
All right, how about a little bit of good news.
Let start with some good news for the forty nine Ers. Their tight end George Kittle says he will play in the game on Sunday.
Against the Packers.
Kittle set out last week because he was dealing with some hamstring sortus. He's not even listed on the injury report this week. That means they expect he is going to be good to go, certainly a boost for that forty nine Ers offense. Quarterback Brock Party listed as limited on the injury report as he continues to deal with a sore throwing shoulder. I told you on the show on Tuesday, it's not anything that should impact his availability for Sunday. That remains true. They do want to be cautious with his reps, though. During the course of the week, Kyle Shanahan is saying that the concerned level is not much right now, and they'll see how the rest of this week goes. Shanahan also said of star pass rusher Nick Bosa, he definitely might be ready and he definitely might not be ready. In other words, stay tuned. They'll give him all the way up to kickoff. As Bosa deals with hip and oblique injuries, this is something that's been ongoing.
He aggravated it last week against the Seahawks.
You can see how much pain he was in limping off the field at one point. Certainly that would be a huge loss if Bosa is not able to go, But as you guys have been documenting, this is a big game tonight, I mean on Sunday for the forty nine ers. If there's a way for Nick Bosa to be out there, they want to make sure that they give him every opportunity to do that.
All right, everybody a signer Beneath the Surface presented by Microsoft Service. I'm not gonna lie to you. We've been doing this segment a long time. I don't know if I want to gobnat the surface on this scenario. We've got Giants starting quarterback Tommy DeVito keep track here, and the still QB two for the New York Giants. Even though he was QB two and then got bench, he didn't become QB one. It's a whole complicated thing. Daniel Jones is no longer the starter. Tommy DeVito is. The Giants announced that this week. And Andrew Locke was asked about these roster decisions. That is locker yesterday.
Take a listen.
When they tell you, you know, it's based on what they saw last year that the kind of the juice.
Said it gave the team. How do you not wonder, well, why was I the number two the whole time? Then why was he? Why was he the number two? Then if that's week.
Yeah, again, that's you know, that's a question I might still have for myself, and Knows expressed to me that I was going to be the two, and I know it's just an interesting situation. How much I can really say about it. Besides, again, I'm gonna I'm gonna be here for him, and you know we're still communicating, still very good friends, believe it or not. No, yeah, I'm gonna be your forum. As team needs to get a win, and we start winning, everything gets a little better on here, all.
Right, So Tommy DeVito and Drew Locke will remain as the quarterbacks available to the Giants. And I know, Peter, you're going to be able to inspect this situation appropriately because not only do you know the Giants so well, but also I heard on the Season with Peter Schrager this week, Shaan Stillato, Tommy DeVito's agent, is back on the pod. So now you got that take too.
So Peter, go right ahead, everyone go listen to the podcast called The Season with Peter Schreger. Quick plug Shaun Stallato tells a story about meeting the Pope and not Mike Francessa, not someone down there in New Orleans, the actual Pope this off season.
Yes, at the Vatican, Stillado and.
He presented him with a gift of football from Tommy DeVito opposite, and I said, that is just incredible. So Shaun Stellato is the agent for Tommy DeVito. And yet I don't feel like this is a giant circus situation.
I actually I feel like Davito.
The Giants coaching staff felt more comfortable with DeVito under center than Drew Locke.
Otherwise you'd played Drew Lock.
Drew Loock's been number two all along, Drew Lock was signed to a five million dollar contract over this offseason, and Devido's been the number three, and Da Vido.
Gets the nod over Drew Lock.
Now there's a lot of controversy in New York because Dexter Lawrence came out and was like, Daniel Jones is the best quarterback on our team. I don't know what we're doing, Like I want Daniel Jones on the field whether or not you know, financials make sense because there's an injury clause, Like I want to win and I want Daniel Jones. Well, now you have a controversy because the.
Number two was actually the number three.
All along, they go against Tampa. Now, Davito Mania took Storm last year. They were two and eight last year, and he won three straight games and got them to five and eight.
They're two and eight this year. They have some winnable games coming up.
They're not going to the playoffs, but with Daniel Jones's days likely.
Done in New York, these games matter.
And this is always tricky because if you win these games, they're a fun ride Thanksgiving to Christmas.
It's a fun ride and like, okay, well you can actually.
Root for the Giants, but they also really hurt you in the draft coming up, when you're clearly in the market for a quarterback. I'm very interested to see the conversations in the quarterbacks room, not with the other quarterbacks. I feel like Daniel Jones to veto and in this case Locke and they even signed Tim Boyle. The four of them seem to be getting along, just swimmingly. Everything they've said. It's like it's not about them, Dable communicating with these guys to say, yeah, that's the number one. He's probably the best player, he's healthy, but he's not going to be the guy you've been number two and we signed you to a free agent contract, but you're not the guy.
Three.
We like you, you're cool, you're in and four we don't know you, but you're in two because you're a veteran and we got you in the room. So fascinating conversations, all four of them young quarterbacks going in different paths, and Tommy DeVito's got the first chance to say, you know what, I'm an NFL quarterback in this league.
Go get it, dude.
Yeah, you know, I have a totally different take on this. You know, just from a player's perspective. You know, you label a player a number two and you say, hey, you're my number two guy. You prep him like he's your number two guy, and then you turn around and say, yep, you're not the number two. You're actually the number three, and you bring.
In this guy.
They can make that decision however they want. But I think the thing that is a little disconcerting is the fact that he's hearing that outside of the facility first when that kind of decision is made. And so, you know, I think about that. I think, you know, like just tell the person, right, like, how do you develop players? You develop players and let them know, hey, you're not doing this well, so we need you to do exactly this. Here's the structure, and this is what we need. But if he wasn't meeting expectations, he should have kind of.
Known that already.
Like but he's sitting there thinking, Hey, I'm the number two guy. You can build this false sense of Okay, you know I've earned this spot. But this takes me back to when I was with the Chargers and how do you handle personnel decision? And you know, I have the great opportunity to play for the late great coach Marty Schottenheimer. And I remember it was December and we were in Buffalo. We're playing at Buffalo and Sean Merriman was coming back from suspension and I needed, you know, I know that there was gonna be this situation going on, and Coach Marty Schottenheimer in the tunnel, he comes up to me. He puts both of his hands on my shoulders and he says, you know, at Ocbar, we're gonna have to let you go.
I start crying.
He starts crying, why am I telling you that story? I'm telling you that story because that's how he came man to man and told me right to my face. He didn't have one of his guys. He didn't release it to the media. He came to me first and told me, and I'm like, you know what, that's leadership. That's what people respect in the locker room. And when people see that in the locker room, they go, man, I can respect that. He didn't go out outside of the facility. He did it inside of the facility before it was ever released. So I'm just saying, like, you know, and that season too, by the way, Chargers fourteen and two, that just speaks to the type of leadership. And yeah, gosh, I missed Coach Schottenheimer.
Yeah, yeah, that's beautiful. Akbar.
You know, I think of I went last night and I tried to figure out why this whole thing happened where they promoted Tommy DeVito, and so.
I looked up the interview with Brian Dabon.
He said simply that they needed a spark and because of the history with Tommy DeVito, that they knew that he could create that spark.
I don't know if anybody knows this at the table.
I don't know if anybody knows this with the GMFU fan, But I'm an ego scout and one of the first things we've learned scout for.
The Eagles and Eagle Scout yeah yeah, boy scouts the highest rank.
Yeah yeah, highest rank.
So one of the first things that we learn as an ego scout is how to how to build a fire and how to do it safely. And one of the first things you learn is wherever you decide to pick a fire, that you need to build a barrier. That you have to enclose this thing, whether that you put rocks around it or you diggle hole to ensure that when you like this fire, that it doesn't go everywhere right now, based on what I heard as far as the reactions to the benching of Danny Dimes, you know, you talk about Dexter Lawrence, his remarks, Drew Locke, how he feels you don't have an enclosed area right now, New York. So be careful when you implement this spark in Tommy DeVito, that you don't like this thing and you have kindling everywhere in the forest, that this thing lights up and this whole.
Thing comes crashing down.
Just look next door at the New York Jets that we're happy what's happening over there, Be very very careful I know you guys are trying to create this this excitement and and like how I quote Brian Dave all a spark. But from my experience, if you don't have things enclosed, and you don't have things have things in place to ensure that this thing when it lights that it's a beautiful bonfire that everybody can feel safe around, you better make sure that things are all all safe or none and and and based on the reactions from a lot of people in that in that locker room, it doesn't it doesn't seem like they have they have everything in the same area wildfire.
Huge respect for an Eagle scout. David Montgomery from the Lions, also an Eagle scout. But yeah, to Jamie's points, I don't think Eagles scouts are worried about Tommy DeVito.
Michael, I'm gonna throw.
This out if his so you think it, maybe Drew Locke was going to start, and he's played some good football here and there. If Tommy DeVito's name was Tom Smith, is he getting this job?
If he did not have the.
Same name as a good fella's character was not doing sketches with Keegan Michael Key last year with not his mother's famous chicken cutlets. Is it any part of that, then just hear me out. The Giants are terrible. They have almost no goodwill whatsoever. Their next game is at home. Three out of the next four at home. Tommy DeVito is a hero to a large section of the fan base. He's a guy who made some great memories last year, who created.
His own gesture the fans are doing in the stands.
Is this strictly a football decision, because I don't even care if it's not. I see where the Giants are going. If they are that, we are almost always terrible at home.
The fans are so miserable.
Why not let them have a happy holiday season instead of Drew Locke, a one year guy who is not a New York Giant to his core. Let's put in this kid from Jersey and everybody can have a black and we can show that and you know what, maybe he does catch.
Lightning a bottle and do some winning. We can show his agent that can jump up and down. There's the thing, there's a little bit of a.
Magic if you put the stat side by side with Locke and DeVito.
Tovito's actually kind of better too.
I know, we have a higher opinion of Drew Lockes is where he was drafted, and he seems like a really good guy, and every time he talks it seems like, oh.
I like Drew Locke. That's not much to like there. So is it?
That?
Is it?
The personality?
Is it?
All of that stuff.
I'm not hearing jokes about Tommy DeVito, the throwing Jay Leno down a hill at the Hampton in I don't need to hear any of that.
But I know you know where I'm going.
And I think there's a little something extra with Tommy DeVito that if the giants behind closed doors said put the Vito in, I get it. What else you gonna put in two and eight? Let him play interesting?
I obviously don't think this is like a publicity stunt, obviously, but to your point, there was magic there last year, and those same guys who lined up with him did have that magic with him.
So maybe that's what the spark is.
And I'll go back to Jamie on this, but it's like you were in Munich. Drew lock has been the number two the whole way through, and Davido's been the number three. This is pretty out of character for a team to say, actually, you know what we're going with the third guy, not the second.
Yeah, there's there's real life execution of Daniel Johnes sitting on the bench. He has to stand up and warm up. Who is the guy that he is throwing two to make sure that that guy is warmed up as well. It was Drew Locke the entire time, the entire game, Danny Tommy DeVito is standing there with his hands and that little puffer as a quarterback with this thing over his jersey and his pads on.
He was the emergency third.
He was not available until Drew Locke even went down. So the actual mindset of a QB two saying I prepare like I'm a starter, and that's why if a guy gets thrown into action, they succeed. This is why you listen some one as a QB two. I'd be pissed off if I was Drew Locke. I also get it if the Giants why they went with Tommy DeVito. To Kyle's point or at anybody's point, I see both sides, all right, But Drew Lock, we see you.
You are a good guy.
We like when you talk. Keep it going, all right, let me do the.
Start ups were show.
I want to explode.
I want to be a fan of takes connouncing off.
The tackle is montcofery? Want to catch it on?
Still going all right by every frock take her you're from now?
You were much got to say when you ran out from I thought you just go back.
You right, cot your bunny out of here quite.
On the bos on the hooking ladder.
A Lion.
Our guest today is.
Almost twenty years of NFL coaching experience, also in the college game, and he was an NFL player as well in the AFC West. And under his tutelage, the Lions are one of the best running teams in the entire NFL. They are third in the league in rushing yards of the game, and they're tied for third and rushing touchdowns, and they have one of the most dynamic too.
Us.
Let's give a warm welcome to the assistant head coach and the running backs coach of the nine in one Detroit Lions, mister Scottie Bock.
What's up now?
We're excited.
We're excited at all, you guys know, man, We're excited, just just happy to be in the situation that we're in. But you know, when you're inside this building, the only thing that matters is making sure that we get better every single day.
All right, So take us there. You get in there probably four or five in the morning.
You walk in and we watch the product on Sundays. What are we missing on Tuesdays through Fridays there on a work week, and what's the juice like in that building with your head coach Dan Campbell kind of setting up plan.
For the week? Man, he starts it.
There's no question everybody, this is we're early morning crew, all of us.
But the juice is there from.
Four thirty five am in the morning all the way through when we leave late at night. I think the biggest thing is that we're willing to sacrifice a lot of teams. You know, you can make excuses for why you're winning, why you're losing, but at the end of the day is what you're willing to give up. We're willing to give up our time, a lot of time spent, less time spent with our families. But we got a special play, special city in Detroit, uh and then just special players.
Man, the people around here make us sacrifice, you.
Know, Scotty, I just got to take this time to give you your flowers. Man, you know, your journey has just been absolutely amazing. You and I were both in Oakland with the Raiders back in two thousand and three, and just to see how you've, you know, impressively just have developed these running backs, you know, over your coaching career, from your time in Indianapolis to your time now.
So let's go back to last week. You know, what was it like on the.
Sideline when you're scoring I mean on seven seven straight possessions. I mean, like that's got to be crazy. Like were you were? You guys were just out of your mind on the sideline, like, Yo, this thing is clicking.
Yeah, I mean we were.
You know, first of all, we were coming off a game where we didn't feel like we had did our best, you know, playing as simple, we felt like we could have played a lot better offensively.
But in practice we.
Noticed that, you know, we took it to another level in practice last week. I really thought the schematically and you know, and just the detail and the hustle that our guys gave last week in practice. We kind of felt like we were going to have a big day with nothing and nobody's going to turn into a square every time you touch it. But it was very, very impressive by our guys all week.
I love the video Scotti that we rolled in of you before the interview and the fact that you so authentically on the sideline before the game say I want to be a fan tonight. Like you've done your work Monday through Saturday. Now you get to sit back and watch what you have developed into the top scoring offense in the NFL. And a lot of that has to do with this stunningly lethal two headed monster in Jamier Gibbs and David Montgomery. How fun has it been to coach these two up and how would you get them to buy into this type of system?
You know, first things first, we had to build a relationship between each of us all together, and just making sure that all of them know that I had their best interests, you know, going forward, both of them, just making sure that we understand that. But the thing that I'm most impressed about these guys, both of them have ridiculous football IQ.
So we're teaching them like we would teach a quarterback.
And when you can teach guys like that, they see the second level, they see the third level. The game slows down protection wise, I'm just so impressed with where Jamiri is from, just like I said FBI. And then the ability to teach and coach in the room that David has on the things that we brought to him and we continue to let him grow in it just makes it a duo that's just unbelievable.
I Mean, people don't know.
That part of it, but the football IQ is just out of the roof in that room.
Coach speaking about coaches, man your head coach, Coach Dan Campbell, he is one of my favorite human beings of all time. He was with me when I was down in New Orleans from twenty seventeen to twenty nineteen, and I was going through some hard times down there with the politics of NFL, and he would come over to me and he'd always give me some word of you know, some encouraging words and tell me to always believe in myself. And I see a lot of the stuff that he's doing with his players and how he gets emotional, how he really loves his guys, and how he feels when they lose, he lets them down.
I know you've been coaching.
For so long, but what's the difference with coach.
Dan Campbell that you've seen that sets him apart from any other coach that you coach with.
Yeah.
So, first of all, like you know, he's amazing. I've learned so much from him since I've been here. I've grown so much in two years. The authenticity that he has it really really works, you know. And then also showing himself to be vulnerable. I think that's one of the things that I've learned the most since I've gotten here. Completely okay to be transparent and show you vulnerabilities. Guys really see that and they buy into it. And at the end of the day, man, we're all trying to get better. So if he brings us the information that's going to give us better, you can't get anyr feelings about that. But also he does not ride the ebb and flows of good and bad. You're getting the same guy every single day. Just like you said, Man, we can have a great game, we can have a bad game. He's gonna have something encouraging to say to you. We really appreciate our head coach, and that juice and energy runs all through our program.
I need to have that's my voice.
Mess Yeah, I got a question for you.
You were at Duke in the late nineties, in the glory years of Duke basketball, and then you were with the Broncos in the early two thousands with Kyle Shanahang Mike Shanahan bigger presence overall.
Coach K or Mike Shanahan take us there as a coach.
Who if you learn more from this watching from afar and then obviously being in the room.
Come on, man, I got I got Duke Blue rolling through me. Man, Coach Coach K, Like, what are we doing now? I'll say this, Mike Shanahan gave me my first opportunity in NFL.
Learned a lot from him. I was Kyle's at Duke.
I was Kyle's you know, host on this official visit before he came. So the relationship with Coach Shanahan is totally different. He did grow me in this business and he's the guy who really made me responsible for wanting to be a coach.
Wow, that's awesome, stunning.
There is an aura around Coach K and I'm sure a lot of coaches want to have that aura. Scottie Montgomery, we appreciate you so much. Thank you for coming on gmt B. We love talking football with you about your team and your guys come back okay. We wanted to keep chopping it up, especially as an executive producer of Angry Ones.
Scott, congrats man, well done.
