Good Morning Football.
That's right, This is Good Morning Football presented by Old Trapper Beef Jerky.
We are live here in Los Angeles.
Everyone's at the table, Kyle Brant, Peter Schrager, akbar baja biamilla.
I'm Jamie Ertel.
Kyle, you are amongst the people. You described a ridiculous travel schedule you did yesterday, and in the midst of all this, you poor poor thing, your cell phone will not charge.
Yeah. I'm having a kind of issues here at the table, but at least to an interesting question philosoftly that might be relatable for the people. Kah okay, let's put this out on the social YEP. Yesterday, I'm flying from New York cross country to LA It's about a six hour flight and during that time, I'm trying to get some work done. I'm plugged into the Wi Fi. It worked beautifully. I'm trying to send emails and notes to our production staff to get this show ready. Charger physically broke. Like the plug broke off as I got up and I brushed it. It just broke. My phone is out of battery. I'm down to one percent. I can't do the work. I can't be in communication with you guys or the staff. Here. I get up. We're cruising altitude. I go to the front of the plane and I reached the fight attendant is a man who had been been doing the drink cart by me was like my guy. So I went up to him and I said, excuse me, my charger broke. Is there any way you have a cell phone charger and I have phone charger cause I figured they probably people leave them there all the time. Maybe there's like a bin of them or something like that. I don't know. And then I goes I do, but it's my personal charger, and I go, oh, it was anyway I could borrow it. I'm just I'm right back there, like I'll give it right back to you, like just ten minutes. It's my personal charger. And I go, so where are we at? Like you understand, I understand that you own it and the airline does not. Can I please borrow it as one human being to another, And I'll give it right I'm not going anywhere with thirty thousand feet I'd rather not. It's my personal charger. So he wouldn't give it to me, wouldn't give it. So I walked away, and I've been thinking, thinking about it ever since he had phoned the rest of the flight. I actually went up to another passenger and that passenger let me borrow a stranger. Yeah, so I had to tap them on show that the sleeping mask was No, you did it. You did not wake someone off. They were out. I needed a charge of peters. I'm committed. I'm for the game. So I asked you, like this flight, at times, Pip's seen some things he can unsee. I mean, I know it's tough up there. It was a part of either be it mad or you understand. Because I think I understand. I think he's probably lent it before. You'd be mad. How would you feel? Put this on the social flight attendants personal charger won't lend it to you, refuses to I was very nice about it. Who was right? Who was wrong? Where do you go on? You'd be mad? Yeah, that's it.
If he was never going to give it to you, why do the brag that he had one dog?
Jamie? As I'm walking back to my seat, I'm like, why would you tell me that you had one why would you just say no? Just say no. So it's fine.
I saw that same flight attendant dragging that guy off the flight that time.
Was kicking his scream doctor because you know why the doctor barred his charger and never told me once.
I remember that.
Yeah, he wouldn't do it. I feel like he's been burned before, played possum. Right, So whoever you watch their I don't know any will me once. I'm not giving that charge of all?
Right now they we're out on the court of public opinion. Put the cell phone charger in the flight attendants. Very good, Kyle, it's time to the lead block.
I mean it was his personal charge. I got that part. Can I borrow it?
YEA heard me come out of this. We know football is being played in three days.
Ravens Chiefs this kickoff game when they faced off in the AFC Championship, the Ravens running backs were held to just twenty seven yards on the ground New Ravens running backs. So then they bring in Derek Henry and they're like, let's hopefully this goes differently for us.
He was at home watching this game.
Oh yeah, I was.
I was wishing I could suit up that day. Watching that game.
But yeah, but now it's my turn, so gotta take advantage of it. That was gonna be hell of a game.
You know.
Chiefs are always tough. They started them all on all three teams. So it's gotta be locked in this week to be able to exe on Thursday.
All right, So season it's a tales all the time.
Season ends and heartbreak teams assess the issues the Ravens. The question off bar becomes, are they now better equipped this season to get past the Chiefs in the AFC or anybody?
Yeah, I think they have a great chance to be quite honest with you, I mean, of course, if they go out and run the ball more than six times. You go back to that AFC Championship game, how do you run the ball six times? Now you get Derrick Henry. Now you're committed to the run. You have to be committed to the run. Can you imagine if you run the ball six times and you have Dereck Henry on the roster, you would be committing football malpractice. That would be malpractice. They could revoke your football license for something like that. That shouldn't be cool. But yes, they're ready. I think, you know, bringing in Dereck Henry was an excellent move. And then you look at two that they've got guys who are growing up. Your favorite, of course, Jamie Zay Flowers. He's no longer a rookie, you know what I mean, Like he's older, he's a bet, well not a bet yet, but I mean he's got a year underneath his belt. And then I look at what they have with their tight ends, like they've got Isaiah Likely who got who really showed up when Mark Andrews went out and he really showed some flair. Now, all of a sudden, you give them the opportunity to do some cool things with twelve personnel. You can all of a sudden confuse the defense to where are they coming out?
And run? Are they coming out? And pass?
You got two tight ends, you can do a lot. That's something that they didn't have a lot last year. They didn't run a lot of twelve personnel, So this time around they could do a lot.
What do you say?
I can't stress how heartbreaking that loss was for Ravens fans last year.
I was in the building.
I think I've told this story on the air before. But if you're just tuning in now and ockbar you near the show. My son is a diehard Ravens fan. My wife's family's all Baltimore, so we went to the game as fans. I didn't have a dog in the fight. I actually picked the Chiefs to go to the Super Bowl, So I was kind of conflicted on this one. Ravens or Chiefs. I don't care. My son's in the Lamar Jersey.
Yeah. And it was like they brought out everybody.
They had Ray Lewis, they had Ed Reed, they had Terrell Suggs, they had Michael Phelps.
It was like, this is it.
Baltimore's going back to the stuper They did hot and here they did everything. Omar was coming everything, and then the team just like completely lost its identity.
To your point, didn't run the ball. And I look at some of the losses.
Look we add Derek Henry and we do flips about it very quietly. Their offensive line went over a huge change over the offseason.
They might say this's a good thing. I don't see it that way.
These are three veteran offensive linemen who played a lot of games for them and were very important for them, who are all elsewhere. Morgan, Moses and Simpson both went to the Jets. Zeitler no longer went the Ravens either. They have three new starting offensive linemen. Patrick McCarry is going to be the right tackle unless Roger Rosengarten, who they took the time round, is going to start over him.
We don't know. Daniel Fille and then.
Andrew Voorhees that's a fourth rounder, a seventh rounder. These guys have combined for thirty seven career starts, filling in for all those careers starts there. So you think of Ravens, you think, wow, Lamar and Derrick Henry and we're going to pound the ball, and we've got all this great offensive running power. But if you've got three new offensive linemen, it might not be exactly like it was a year ago. You can add in the fact they've got a new defensive coordinator in Zach Worr coming in from Mike McDonald. There are changes to this team, and I don't want us all to look at look.
They added Derrick Henry. They're better.
They had some important people leave the building too.
My answer to this is just one of my least favorite words in the English language. It's sure, sure, maybe they are better, maybe they're not might say that because we've seen some great Lamar teams, even just in the recent history've had some loaded teams, including last year's. I think really this just comes down to he has to play a fantastic game against Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs, like he has to be the two time MVP in the biggest game. If you want to pull up the stats from that game, it's fine, he was fine. He threw a touchdown, he threw a pick, he ran a little bit, they scored ten points. He wasn't his best Lamar, and that's what it's going to take to beat Mahomes. And they were at this point with Lamar. Now, there are eleven players in NFL history who have won multiple MVPs multiple MVPs. Of them does not have a Super Bowl championship. Is Lamar Jackson. It's the only one. Guys win multiple MVPs, and we're talking about every day, from Jim Brown to Joe Montana to Aaron Rodgers, guys have won a Super Bowl. Lamar has not been to a super Bowl. You see this a lot too. Two and four in the playoffs. Two and four in the playoffs. It's rough, but it's not like it's done. It's not going to happen. You know, started two and four in the playoffs. Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning started two and four in the playoffs. He couldn't get through the AFC. There were tough Broncos teams, tough Titans teams. This is even before yeah, Patriots teams, of course, and that's just where Lamar is. And then eventually, you know, Manning had his Mahomes and his Mahomes was Brady, and he eventually broke through. Peyton Manning finally won at thirty thirty years old. If you would have asked me Lamar how old he is, I guess I don't know. Twenty nights, only twenty seven. It's like he's younger than you think. I feel like we've been watching him for a long time. But that guy in the red helmet that we see up there is not going anywhere. Ever. Eventually you have to beat him. And Lamar has had teams that are good enough to beat the Chiefs. They have had teams that are good enough to get to the super Bow, and they don't. I don't think he's played his best game in the biggest games yet. And you run in the danger of the Ravens becoming the AFC Cowboys, where it's like great record, MVP type stuff, a lot of jerseys, but it's just kind of sparkle in fate. Two and four is two and four. That's not two and two. That's not new, that's not he's young and he's in the prime of his career. Last year's team was great. And there's also that big Trust team a few years ago who got destroyed by the Titans. They don't do a lot once they get there, and I just I don't think this is about team construct. I don't think this is about offensive lineman starts or running back editions. I think it is your best player is supposedly the best player in the league. He needs to be amazing in the playoffs and he hasn't been. I know, it's a team sport and wins arnon a quarterbacks stat. At this point, you're two and four. It's time to start playing your best in the biggest games, and it's time to be an adult about it.
It's kind of what makes the MVP and infuriating award because it's so regular season based, because you want the guy who's playing well into January to be MVP.
It's just awkward. When Lamar shows up in February, it is a right, Oh, Lamar, we haven't seen you in like five weeks. This is so strange.
It's interesting you bring up the Cowboys because similar to the Cowboys. This offseason, dan Quinn moves on as a defensive coordinator to Washington. They bring in Mike Zimmer, one of the most veteran defensive coaches in the NFL. The Ravens have their defensive coordinator move on to Mike McDonald. He goes to Seattle. They pretty much went in the opposite end of the spectrum of veteran defensive coaches. Thirty two year old Zach Orr is the new defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. You might not know his name, you may remember him playing for the Ravens. Then he retires quickly because of a medical issue had in his neck and his back as a player. He gets into the linebacking coach corps.
He's with the Ravens.
He goes to Jacksonville, comes back, and when Mike McDonald leaves this defense to go head coach Seattle, he says.
Zach Orr, come with me.
I want you to be on my staff, zach Orr says, no, Harbaugh taps him to become the thirty two year old defensive coordinator for the Ravens. This is the guy who now has Rokwan Smith in coming out of the backfield, who's now going to work with Kyle Hamilton to shore up that secondary. This is not just I think the tee up is kind of unfair. This is not just a chiefs issue for the Ravens. This is a defense that has to deal with Joe Burrow in your division, the potential of a Deshaun Watson in your division, a Josh Allen who was constantly looming, another Harbob who's going to get his quarterback right.
In the AFC. This is not just a chiefs issue.
For the Ravens defensively, to zach Or, the solution and the guy who's going to continue carry this torch of classically a team that always has amazing defenses thirty two years old, Peter.
And he's got an amazing story, like you said, the health issues, had to retire early and then goes into coaching and he's already at this role. The good side of it is if they win, it's like Okay, he's a future head.
Coach, Like, look at what we did.
I also look at the players. Two years ago, Wink Martindale was their defensive coordinator. Last year was Mike McDonald. Now it's zactly like it is your third different defense in three different years.
And we'll have coach rivera on.
In a bit, and like I like to know, like does he just take the exact defense that McDonald brought and say, hey, we're.
Running it again or is he going to add his own wrinkles?
So, Jamie, I think it's such a good point.
It's a cool story. It's great young coaching story.
But last year we saw, you know, the Eagles, they lost Gannon went for the Arizona job and Shane Steiken went to the Indianapolis job, and it's like, all right, Brian Johnson and Sean decide those are our new coordinators, and like, it doesn't work like that. It's not as easy as like you don't. So let's see if zach wer can get it done.
I'm curious the writers in Baltimore would say that because he comes from like the linebacker pathway, that like he's going to just like blitz off the charts.
So who knows if we see that in the quarterbacks, you have a thought.
No, No, I'd say I would like to see the Ravens get over the hump. Would be interesting. I root for these teams that never seem to do it. Ravens Cowboy super Bowl be pretty cool.
I'll say, here's a symmetry that a preview no give And I spoke to a Ravens fan this week.
Not family related.
Someone else said two thousand we won the super Bowl. Twenty twelve we won the super Bowl. It's a twelve year difference, twelve years from twenty twelve.
Is that's what they do? It's are you doing that every twelve years? The rave Eggs and they get in thirty six Lamar Jackson Junior. It'll be arch Manning, arch Manning Art weekend report.
He is our insider assigned to us this morning. Warning to you wrap sheets.
What are we looking ahead in terms of oh boo injury talks?
No rap sheet, No, don't.
Do it to me. So I use a way suitcase actually brand.
You can put a charger that actually comes with a charger in the suitcase.
In a carry on.
This whole thing right here, you could plug it in there's a couple of different plugs. You take this with you, Kyle, everywhere you go, so no matter what, even if your charger breaks, which I gotta be honest, it seems a little suspect my charger. But it's the first day of school. Like I've heard all the nonsense like my charger book. Okay, ready, anyway, keep this with you at all times. You don't have to wake up a random sleeping dude or harass a flight attendant who obviously doesn't want to give.
You his charger. It's his personal charger.
You should have your own personal charge and convice, don't wake up at just keeping your bag at all times.
First of all, here's what happened. The chargers plugged in prior I had gotten out. You're trying, I'm getting out of the seat and my leg like decapitates the charger. Basically, it's plugged in and I decapitated like a guyantine I broke it. So you're telling me Ian now. First of all, I I know they don't have flight attendants like that on private jests that you take, but I'm from commercial airlines. If you're in the front of the gallley or whatever it's called, and this person is saying, I have one and I will not give it to you. You tell me, You're like, that's cool, because maybe that's your take.
No, No, my take would be I don't totally disagree with you.
There, here's my take, Like wow, so you may make him feel kind of bad, like wow, that kind of stings. You have one, but you won't give it to me. But then you can't really harass him because he made his point clear. So it's like, wow, you're kind of a jerk, but that's just you. I'll be me and then you leave and you go wake up someone.
Else because of this segment. I'm gonna do not fly now. I'm done, Like I will never be able to fly.
Yeah maybe, I mean I have zero doubt about that.
It's going to be like Spirit Airlines from now on. Anyway.
Sorry, let's talk about some of the key injuries heading into this big time game on Thursday, most notably Hollywood Brown, the standout receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, one of their big ticket free agent acquisitions this past offseason. He is going to be out for Thursday, not yet practicing for the Kansas.
City Chiefs, So for a really painful injury.
S he joined sprain injury more closely associated with a car crash.
It's about a four to five maybe six week injury.
He's almost to that four point to that four week mark right there, bred Beech's general manager saying he can now laugh without being in pain. That is a good sign for Hollywood. Brown so out this week. We'll see next week if he's able to go. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens getting healthy Tyre lindub On their center, their center who had been out with a neck injury. He is out of his non contact jersey than Mark Andrews missed a lot of training camp after a car crash.
He was back at practice this week as well.
Rap sheet, thank you very much.
Have you feeling the sensation and the stress of prediction week from cross country? Because it's palpable at the table here? Rap sheet off on TMFB, we're talking coach.
Of the year. This is not your favorite coach, most charismatic.
This is story wins, get your team in the right place.
It's coach of the week.
There's a part in Uncut Gems where Kevin Garnett says, why would you show me something if I can't have it. Then I just got that gift about the charger thing. Why would you tell me they have a charger If I can't have it? Then people are waiting in at the gate.
They tell you, they say, you got to take that thing out. If you're coming in with that suitcase I've had, that is that true?
Ian?
You got to unplugged the whole thing.
All right?
Andy Reid? What would he do? Joe Burrow? What would he do? That's not Joe Burrow, but it's the Bengals. What are we talking about here? We're talking about defensive Rookie of the Year, defensive player that you were doing all our picks stud players out there. It's prediction week on Good Morning Football.
It was a tricky defensive draft to focus on some of these guys, unlike last week.
Pick one can't.
Good money football.
Hey, everybody, welcome back inside our show. It's fitting two time Coach of the Year Ron Rivera.
No, you guys doing well, We're doing excellence.
We're ready to talk coachest thoughts. I know I do most certainly doing all right.
Congratulations on your two times you were up on a stage.
Receive this award, because now we go Coach of the year.
We're trying to predict, but we need to know from you some key elements that you feel the secret sauce to winning Coach of the Year being a two time winning yourself.
Well, I think the biggest thing is obviously handling the situation circumstances that you're in. You know, going into my third season when I want it in twenty thirteen, everybody's predicting.
Me on the hot seat getting fired.
We go on this tear, we win eight in a row, and next thing you know, we're right in the middle of the playoff scene. We win the division and then I was selected as Coach of the Year because of that. My second time was we're undefeated all the way through. We've got Cam Newton at quarterback and just working with Cam and everything that we've done, and next thing you know, we're ten to one going into the playoffs. And so that was kind of a cool deal too.
And I asked before those seasons, did you have a special feeling about those two squads, like, did you know anything different from the twenty thirteen team and the twenty fourteen team.
Yes, I mean I really did feel good about twenty thirteen just because of the things that we did leading up to it, you know. But was really very helpful for me personally though, was after my second season. I had this record of being three and thirteen of losing games by six points or less. So I went out saw some advice. John Madden mentored me get out of the Really that was tremendous. I went out visited coach Madden at at at his office up in.
California, and how do I close out? Like absolutely, We sat down, we talked.
He says to me, he says, go back, look at those games, see what you could have done differently. So, just before I go see him, I watch all those games. I write this twenty page report. I come in, we sit down, we start talking. Then all of a sudden, I put it on there. Here's the report. He goes, what seid? He goes, well, that's that homework you told me to do. Go out and take a look at you. That's not for me, that's for you.
What did you learn?
But he did it helped me realize and understand the significance and importance of fourth down, Okay, And that was one of the things that was my nemesis because on fourth down I was doing what was safe. I was kicking it when you're supposed to kick it, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, and really didn't go for it. But it also kind of that was the birth of riverboat.
Around incredible, and then you had that he was your nickname the guy Wow. So that kind of came from that roundabout from Coach Madden.
Absolutely, I really did it because he says to me, yeah, nobody, it was great because he says, he says wrong, You've played enough, You've coached enough to know better, do the things that you believe in you gut.
So I started doing it.
So I was doing analytics before analytics.
Oh cool, I love Madden analytics.
Go all right, so we got Coach of the Year.
Now we are going to give our Coach of the Year prediction. Coach and then if you want to sprinklett a little opinion.
About it on the background. You would appreciate that greatly. Kyle Brent, you go first.
Yeah, I'm happy to do it, and I'm excited about this one. I really hope it happens. My pick for Coach of the Year is a man who's been around for a while. Someone we all know it's someone in their forties still but is on their sixteenth different position, all different levels of football. Person also has two Super Bowl rings, and I also think has a massively high approval rating and that everyone wants him to succeed, wants him to win this. My coach here is Raheem Morris. I love this guy. I think he's got the roster ready. I think he's got a division that's a little bit supple, and I think he will have this team ready to absolutely destroy for him. I don't know if we're going to be calling him riverboat Raheem after this season, but I think he's going to coach aggressive. He's going to have that team in the Dome with young talent on offense, new guys they brought in on defense. You've seen it, you know it in the NFC South. Who knows who takes it. And I think there's a lot of people who like him and who vote for him and want to play for him. Raheem Morris my coach of the Year pick in the Falcons. What do you think, coach? So, I don't disagree.
I think Raheem is really underrated. He's a young man, has coached a lot of different positions, even when on the offensive signe. How awesome is that to get a better feel and understanding of how to attack his opponents. I think is a really smart move on his part, and I think he has a good opportunity.
Let's go, all right.
I go with a coach that is kind of battling with this issue right now of who had the hand and the success first? Is it just the coach or is it perhaps the quarterback that played for him? And when that quarterback leaves you in the frozen tundra, do you maintain the success and the build up. I go Matt Lafleur for my Coach of the Year with the Green Bay Packers. Matt laflor in his first season as a rookie coach, had thirteen wins. It's like shot out of a cannon for the Green Bay Packers, the first time a rookie coach did that since Jim Harbaugh did it in twenty eleven as a first year head coach. So the floor comes in, he wins everything, he continues to win thirteen wins, then there's.
A drop off, then his quarterback leaves.
If this coach can get his team into the playoffs last season, can go to Dallas and beat.
Up on the Cowboys the way that this team did, and.
Continue the trajectory that this pay his quarterback, get his defense right, thirteen wins, perhaps steal a division away for the Lions team that everybody loves.
I go, Matt Lafleur is my coach of the year.
All right, Well, I like what you said, if you take it away from Detroit. I think he's gotten everybody's attention and probably be also a person well deserved.
When you said that, is he a product of his quarterback and his quarterback left? I thought you were going with Kevin O'Connell, you know what I mean, because he also lost his quarterback up. Yeah. Yeah, it's tough to be as successful as Lafleur has been normally. It's like take a crappy aam or an average team to make him great. Like he's already winning playoff games. See, he would have to like have some like fourteen and three season or something like that.
But yeah, if some other team in the division hadn't come running in the last couple of seasons, I think it would be harder to give it to him. But the fact that the Lions have gotten so much better and if the Bears are nipping at their heels too, yet he still wins the division.
I Bradie Morris Matt lafor Who's Next, guys.
In twenty thirteen, my pick for Coach of the Year was a graduate assistant quality control.
Coach at the University of Georgia.
Okay, bounced around a bit college game NFL all this stuff. My coach of the year is only thirty seven years old, and when we talk about his division, we focus on two other teams, but I am very high on his squad. My coach of the year is a first year NFL head coach. I'm going up to Seattle. I think Mike McDonald, the thirty seven year old defensive impresario and the mastermind of that Ravens defense a year ago, is going to be the coach of the year this year.
I'm very high on Seattle. I think they've got a good offense.
They bring in a college offensive coorder from the University of Washington. But I love McDonald and the young spirit that he brings.
Look the guy after Pete Well.
Pete was a legendary coach, Hall of Fame coach. We're not saying anything wrong, but this is a totally different deal. We go from a man in his seventies, who this guy in his thirties and he's got a great young squad. No one is talking Seattle right now, Gino, Kenneth Walker and a bunch of guys.
On D You might not know yet.
I think that the Seattle Seahawks are not only a playoff team, I think they are forced to be reckoned with NFC. Let's go, Mike McDonald, my coach of the year. Ron, you are a defensive coach yourself, your thoughts on a thirty seven year old wiz kid getting the reins after Pete Carroll.
Then there's nothing wrong with that. We saw that happen down in Houston.
You know, again, this is a guy that's got a good pedigree and he's come into a situation where the cover most certainly is not bear. So they do have an opportunity to be a playoff bound team again, though they're in a very tough division. They really true they are. There's a lot of good football going to be played this year.
All right, Okay, all right, I like all of them so far.
Okay, listen up.
Why did coaches say that all the time they a lot of listen up. All right, well, listen up, I've got a hot take for you guys on Coach of the Year. Let me first just kind of set this thing up for you, guys. Bill Parcells currently has the longest gap between winning Coach of the Year. He won it in nineteen eighty six, excuse me, on his way to his first Super Bowl with the Giants, and then he won it eight years later when he took the Patriots from the worst team in the league to the playoffs.
That's cool, all right.
So the coach on talking about has to be a transformer that's more than.
Meets the eye. A coach who.
Doesn't settle for satisfied, a coach whose old plan is to dominate. A coach who literally hears angels singing when his quarterback steps onto the field. I'm talking about my man, Jim how it has been thirteen years since he won Coach of the Year as the head coach for the other team, the forty nine ers. Harvass is a passionate guy. It's infectious, and his commitment to excellence is unwavering. Now he can downrote coach and I think everybody knows that, Yes, he's taking over a five win team from you know, from last season. But he's got a solid defense with Derwin both sum back. Plus he's got a quarterback in Justin Herbert that is just straight up a baller and ready to fire it up. So this isn't a up being good, because to be good it's not good enough if you dream of being great, and Jim Halball wants to be great. He's my coach of the year.
Incredible.
All right, listen up, listen up. First of all, you got that quarterback. You're gonna hear a lot of angelsy because that is a terrific quarterback that's got a lot of talent, a lot of ability. Secondly, inherited very good defense. So I really do think that that is a real solid pick. I think Jim has the opportunity to take that team not just into the playoffs, but probably the championship game. I really do see them, you know, being the wildcard team because I'm picking Kansas City to win it. Okay, okay, but I do think those two teams can meet again in the playoffs.
Again, I really do think it's coach how long you know on Jim Harborugh, Jim and I were teammates. It's incredible.
We've played together the Bears. One of the most competitive guys that have ever been around. Truly a great teammate. That's the kind of guy you want on your side because in a fight, he's one of those guys that you really got to knock out to stop him.
Unusual man, he's got eccentricities, yes he does. Do you have any good arms? Have horrbad? Just being an unusual guy and it works for him.
But no, And it's just I mean, that's just personality. That's who he is. And again it's nothing malicious. It's just he does everything to win, and that's just the way it is. I mean, you you described him perfectly. You really did. I was getting all fired up because I know exactly that guy and he's got a great opportunity, really does.
But you know my pick.
Now listen, Kafore, before you go for your Coach of the Year, I got a surprise video here. I want you guys to take a look because I have a co signer on this. All right, check out my co signer.
Yeah, Kyle Brandt, I'm here with mister Angry Runner himself, mister Arnold Swarzenegger. Do you agree that the Chargers should have Jim Harbaugh's Coach of the Year.
You know, I get hassled about things like that all the time. I think it is just unbelievable how fussedul you are about this whole issue. So of course I have to agree with you. I mean, what the hell.
Is the most random thing ever?
Hotel lobby?
What was that? Why? Why was talking about Jim harmar And he goes.
Why the hell not?
I almost feel like he just agreed he usually leave him alone. Why had that happened? Yes, I don't don't even want to know. Just leave it at that. Was that coming off? Like there? That was unbelievable, dude.
Yeah, I had to ask him. I said, I'm going to work tomorrow and I just got to get your take on this. What do you think I'm going back and forth?
And who should be?
No, yesterday my buddy got married Matt Iceman from.
The Yeah congratu.
Arnold Swarzenegger was at the wedding. So we were hanging out at the wedding yesterday and I said, well, you know what, I might as well this is great content, dude, Like, yeah, sure, I'm doing for you.
Go ahead. Also Arnold afraid you go your defensive rookie of the year. Who do you like in this? That's unbelievable. I really like Brandon Fisk from that He's actually he's no. All right, Ron, everyone else has terminated.
Ron.
You believe what we just saw?
Absolutely, I mean the rest of us, Ron, can we get your coach of the year?
Absolutely? That was unbelievable.
Okay, Andy Reid real think about that. Well, Andy's first won in two thousand and two. Okay, Okay, last five seasons, who's been in the super Bowl four times?
Right?
And it's his body of work is not just what he's done annually for the last five years, but it's what's happened in the last five years. I mean, let's take a look at it. Every season you got an opportunity to go to the super Bowl. Okay, and now with all the pressure people talking about a three p Okay, now all of a sudden they definitely have the target. So again to get them into that position to win the division again, I think he deserves.
It it that'd be awesome. Wow, we really have a mixed bag in that group.
H all around.
We really were the names.
Let's see you went I went to Morris, Jamie, Jim Haba, Mike McDonald, Andy Reid, all different types.
The NFL Fan of the Year condest, presented by Captain Morgan, returns to honor the extra ordinary fans who spice up football with their fandom. Is at NFL dot com slash Fan of the Year to nominate someone today. But we get some Friday night football this week. As the Packers and Eagles played the first ever game in Brazil. It will be a new experience for both teams, and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni says he's looking forward to this opportunity.
You can control the things that you can control. We're going to Brazil to play. That's that's what it is, and we're excited about that. We're excited about the opportunity to play in a neutral site, knowing that you know that and they have a different, slightly different schedule of things that happen, Like you know, you have a big buy coming out, like a mini buy coming off of it, and so there are a lot of positives in it. And you know it's also to spread the game, you know, to a new country, which is exciting.
Now that game will be the second game of the season, as the Reasons and Cheese kick things off on Thursday night in Kansas City.
Yes, it's a rematch of the AFC.
Championship game from last season, but Raven's head coach John Harbaugh is making sure to try and keep the game in perspective.
One of the big lessons to me is that you you have to remember it's it's the first game, but it's not the only game. So you know, we're gonna have another game after that, and we're gonna have We're we're gonna have seventeen regular season games and as many postseason games as we earn, so that we've got to keep that in mind and kind of keep it in perspective that way.
Well.
A scary moment for forty nine Ers wide receiver Ricky Piarsov severed a gunshot wound to the right side of this chest during an attempted robbery on Saturday in San Francisco.
The good news he was released.
From the hospital on Sunday after being listed in serious but stable condition. Pearsol's mother, Aaron saying Sunday on a social media post the bullet entered through her son's chest and exited out his back missing vital organs. Thank goodness he's doing okay, and all of us here at GMFB wishing Ricky a speedy recovery. Also the sergeant who was the first to respond, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, so that she told him to be strong like on the field.
Now coming up, we're talking defensive Rookie of the Year.
Predictions. Don't go anywhere more.
GMFB rolls, I.
Good mon football all right.
In case you are just joining us, it is the beginning of prediction week, the beginning of blood pressure rising, and us putting our names on coaches and players and rookies.
What have you throughout the whole week playoff teams, We've.
Done Offensive Rookie of the Year, We've got Coaches of the Year, and the stories behind each of these Coach of the Year selections is really what sells the award and the year. It is time, Peter. Now we're Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Defensive Rookie the Year, and a curious defensive rookie class.
What's interesting.
One thing about this defensive Rookie of the Year group is that it took until the fifteenth overall pick before a defensive player was even selected. There were six quarterbacks before a single defensive quarterback was a defensive player was taken. There were a ton of wide receivers offensive linemen as well.
I am going to go with.
The first pick here of the draft that we're doing for the pick of who I think is going to be defensive rookie of the year, and my selection is someone who's playing right here in this city.
I'm going with the nineteenth overall pick.
Jared Verse.
Jared Verse sass rusher for the Los Angeles Rams. Jared Verse, who started off as an Albany Great Dane college play hit Albany for two years, transferred to Florida State, where all he did in twenty two and twenty three was be a first team All American, a first team All acc and an absolute star for a Florida State Seminoles team that took the world by storm last year before their quarterback Jordan Travis got hurt. Verse, an absolute beast, were number five in college Believe he's remember eight with the.
Los Angeles Rams. Keep an eye out for him off the edge. We know the story with the Rams.
Losing Aaron Donald is a huge deal and then they just traded off Ernest Jones. Everyone scratching, ahad, why would you trade a twenty four year old starter? They feel really good about their defense, and with Chris Shula calling the shots, I've got rookie Jared Verse as the best first year defensive player in the NFL.
You know, that's a really good pick. I really like your pick with that one, especially that he's teamed up with his former college teammate.
Is that right? As McVeigh fired up about he's fired u about him.
Brilliant didn't surprise, didn't even play him this preseason. Yeah, he's holding him.
He doesn't know. He doesn't always get fired up about Jared's That's why you know. Okay, fair, fair, do you have a verse on Jared Verse? Peter right here? Do to you do?
That's a whole segment we're gonna do in a couple of weeks after he gets it to a hot star.
All right, we'll do versus hot He just gonna raise the roof. Everybody get good.
Well, I think we all no to be defensive. To be the defensive rookie of the year, you have to make an immediate impact with dominant with the dominant performance and I'm talking about a freaking nature who's about to dominate the NFL.
Wow.
Next level athlete with hand quickness and body control. I mean that is this is the quality that you have to have right now. This guy that I'm about to tell you can navigate a system, any system, and still be successful. My GPS takes me to Dallas. Dallas Turner like this new pass rusher. Now, Dallas showed flashes in the preseason with a sack and some hurries and about on about twenty snaps with Brian Flores as the DC and Jonathan Grunnard coming over from the Texans. With twelve and a half sacks last season, he set for a massive year. I mean he could really just coming off a third down personnel excuse me, third down pass rushers, he could. He could really make a high high impact. Defenses are going to have a hard time protect and stopping both him, Jonathan and Dallas. I think the Vikings have a history of developing elite pass rushers. I'm talking about John Randall. You'll appreciate that from back in the day, Keith Millard, Danelle Hunter who they lost to the Texans. Ever since Griffin, this is going to be a hell of a defensive lineman, and I think he could be defensive rookie of the year.
I'm into it, Oh, Dallas, is some preseason murders to turn out? That's good? All right? Is it my turn? Sure? Ogbar Baja Biamila has a different life than you and me. It's a different deal. Over the weekend, I was at a concert in Chicago and I ran into Bears offensive coordinator Shane Walder, and I thought it was like the coolest thing ever, the Bear's coordinator. You want to see Okbar ran into over the weekend and use the encounter to make content for our show, Kyle.
Brandt, I'm here with mister angry runner himself, mister Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Do you agree that.
The Chargers should have Jim Harbaugh's coach of the year.
You know, I get hassled about things like that all the time. I think it is just unbelievable how FORCEDU for you are about this whole issue. So of course I have to agree with you. I mean, with the hell that's the answer.
So it's so cool that you running into him. He's so cool. He does the video. He constantly has people coming up to him, Arnold, can you ahead of my friend? Can you say get to the choppa? Can you say it's not a tool you go up to the coach of the year, not even Arnold, who's your super Bowl pick? Who's your m v P? Get it? It is so in the weeds, the coach of the year. Why that, of all things? It's what I was thinking.
My mind was thinking like a producer. I'm like, look, Arnold, Soorzenegger is going to be here. I gotta do something for the show. All right, Arnold, you down? Yeah, But he's such a pro. He was just rolling with it. It was he had his whole security detail that let me inside of the the bubble surrounded around him.
It was it was pretty cool. I liked that he said, I get asked about this all the time? Do you have that question? Do you think you gets a lot of my Coach of the Year and chargers? Do you believe yes all the time?
Well, I mean you got to think because after he may turn goal Charja's goal, like you know what I mean, Like they would ask him about the charge.
Yeah, he might have thoughts on the chargers, and that's not all the time. The governor of California right. I might think they're still in San Diego. Who knows what he thinks. I love the ad that video and listen, we joked about it. But like, my defensive Rookie of the Year is Terran Arnold. I love It's fantastic. Listen, he is fantastic. You know. The first and foremost it is that I didn't even add, like after I saw the video. You know about his personality. He's great, but he's an unbelievable All American corner that they took in the first round from Alabama. I think the Lion's pass rush is going to be great, which means they're gonna be live interceptions to be had. And I think it's gonna be an all time speech. And you know what, Terry Nobleland might have a Super Bowl R going to go with it too. One might have one Terrrian really good? Oh no, what you got?
I wish I had Taylor Swift announcing my defensive Rookie of the Year.
I do not.
That would be really fun and that's exactly what I would ask her to do on a video. No, I take you to the MAC, I take you to Toledo Rockets.
Yes, and I take you to Quinnyon Mitchell.
In the Philadelphia Eagles secondary and I didn't know who my defensive rookie of the year was going to be until this week when the fifty three man roster was set and Quinjong Mitchell changed his number from thirty to twenty seven. A llah, Malcolm Jenkins, because I don't care who's worn twenty seven since then.
Malcolm Jenkins with.
A ninety nine yard picked six of Tom Brady is one of his greatest memories. Malcolm Jack has been on the show, gave us his book. He's a great guy, and.
Now he looks look at that.
That looks right in the Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. That is my defensive rookie of the year. One of those really really cool stories could have been in the transfer portal, could have gone to Alabama, didn't stay at Toledo and still stayed a first round.
Draft pick to fill.
I like it. Round up, Peter, who'd you have again? I had Jared Versus for the Rams, Ed vers I had Terry and Arnold for the Lions.
Dallas Turner the bike in Mitchell Mitchell birds.
Hey, we're back on GMTP here. It is our season.
Ahead of the twenty twenty four season award predictions for Offensive and defensive.
Rookies of the Year and Coach of the Year.
I gotta say I am targeted on Raheem Morris a very curious pick for you.
I don't think he's curious at all. I think it's a really popular guy with an up and coming team and a division that's kind of up for grabs. I think he's due for that. I like it. Akbar, what's your favorite pick that you made? Uh?
You know, I would have to go with Jim Harball. I really do think. I mean, he's going to break the record for the longest in between like eight years was yeah, yeah, bil sill Pars thirteen years. If he wants it be thirteen years in between winning Coach of.
The Year, I like it. I have some ominous things to say from Mike McDonald.
A couple of years ago, I said Cliff Kingsbury, he was fired at the end of that season.
I said Nathaniel Hackett, he was fired for eleven games.
And last year, I said Sean Payton and that team couldn't get out of the starting block. So Mike McDonald and the Seahawks, I apologize. It's my pick, but I can't say I'm always accurate with the coach.
Coach of the year the year fired after eleven year, Yes, that was you make some good super Bowl picks, not terrible coach of the year. So basically he's a screw. Sorry, Mike Donald. Make it through the year though, and better than oh I turned out to Let Peter bring up the bad ones, up the good ones, you lift me up.
Sorry.
All right, this is just Monday here on NFL Network on g m f B.
We will hang with you the rest of the week. I have a great one.
