The Good Morning Football Podcast is part of the NFL Podcast Network

Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.

Good Morning Football, Indeed, What's that? Good Morning Football, presented by Harbor Freight Live in Los Angeles. I'm Jimmy at all this, Zuckbar Paja Biam Miller.

There is Peter Schreeger. There is Kyle Brant.

Peter, you agree, very patriotic, but there is something blinding and Kyle shot Kyle.

People love the watch that you're wearing. Talk to us about it.

This is a throwback to the eighties. I mean there's watches and then there's watches.

Guys, there's just a different deal if you go back to nineteen eighty seven.

That was hot.

So thank you, Thank you everybody from noticing if you know, if you're really cool, you don't call it a watch, called a time piece. But I'm just girled to be Peter with here in Peter in New York represent the United States.

Peter and I were just splitting a croissant. It was delici. This was awesome. It was awesome.

You get that giant croissant. You gotta you gotta go right.

The first week of preseason kicked off Thursday and carried us all the way through this past weekend. So that's very important to remember. You got to you gotta pick and pop. It's not just Sunday afternoons right now, Peter.

It's all over the place.

So go take us to your favorite non quarterback related moment from the first weekend.

Peter.

You know, I've spent a lot of the first few weeks of the relaunch of this show talking about that dynamic kickoff rules. And I can see you at home, the viewers at home, with your eyes just glazing over, saying I don't want to learn about rules.

I don't want to look at any diagrams. But I am telling you this is gonna make the game.

A lot different.

Do you know there were zero kick returns for touchdowns all last preseason? Do you know there's only been one kick return for a touchdown in the last five preseasons combined.

We had two of them this year.

Yeah, let's get to the footage.

Let's start with the Titans, and we're gonna go with Kiris Jackson out of Georgia. He takes us one and look at the little move here he does here the web bluster, and then because of.

The new thing here, oh two spins. He can go and he can pull.

Nowther look the Niners, this is some horrible tackling. He didn't go all the way for a touchdown here, but he did this move here. Okay, let's go to Jacksonville versus Kansas City. We didn't get the touchdown on that one, but we did get one in Jacksonville. You want to see the first one in four years, in the first one this year.

Here we go.

That is our guy, Parker Washington. We get a lot of love this season. Parker Washington takes it and he's going, he's going, He's going, come out, Parker. Okay, so we didn't get a touchdown, but here's what I'm saying. Here's what I'm saying. We had these long returns. I got excited the fact that we even get them all the way here, and it might have been false advertising. Tell you you got two kick returns for touchdowns.

No, but there were two opportunities.

He love kick returns for touchdowns, and that's all I'm looking for.

There hasn't been a single one in so long.

And we had two moments with the dynamic kickoff where we almost got him, and at the very least it was an exciting play from the Special teams.

I've told you the stats time and time again.

Only twenty percent of.

Kick returns were taken out last year from this kick fifty percent is what they expect now. As for kick returns for touchdowns, it's a dead it's a dead art, like we don't see it all anymore. Super Bowl they were thirteen kick returns. No one even took one out. So when I get two that get taken back like that, I get excited. Sorry for the false advertising. To me, that's worth the touchdown.

The kick return being in Parker, Ving, Parker, being in Parker, I know, not great.

Poper Washington, Hello Washington.

Like George, my boy.

Stock tip is if you bought stock on the new kick returns and you're like, oh, this is crazy. There's gonna be all kinds and this is going to be so fun, do not sell the stock right now. Don't so, because, believe me, Week one, that's when the Special Teams guys break out their cool little blocking schemes and their reverses.

And all that stuff. They're saving that stuff.

Don't sell your stock in the kick return and don't sell your stock.

In Caleb Williams I'm doing it.

Kleb Babs played the Bills. He did this game.

We said, it's classical music. This is Bears Bills preseason. I don't care if it's the super Bowl in New Orleans. I don't care what year, what stadium, what week, what anything. It's a beautiful throw. And you know, you say, oh, yeah, because you know the Bears never have anything good. You're excited about this. Yeah, you're right, that's exactly right. I I'm sorry, but that's exactly right.

I've earned this. Yes.

And by the way, there's another species of fan out there that like if you even show one little dollup of excitement in the preseason, all they want.

To do is just hose you down with icy cold water.

You want to go to the social media component of the program going this is I dared to say I was excited about this throw. And here come to people, whoa whoa Kyle Buddy, let's simmer down, Hey, anglerfish Andy, why would I simmer down?

It's a time to get excited.

Football is back.

Don't simmer down, Andy, Next rolland through. Look at these people just just browbeating me. Really, preseason game rush, You're not.

That close to I would expect my local high school quarterback, Tyler, where do you play high school of court football?

What the hell is that they're not making throws like that? Tyler? Get out of it? And then the last one, last one worked a little blue on me.

Guys. Yes, let's go there.

Stop thinking about your teen years Shoe diary.

That's a very basic pass infol First of all, how dare you besmirched the great name of the Red Shoe Diary.

It's everybody, it's all hands on deck. Peter's like the Avengers. Okay, everybody was on deck in the Red Shoe. It's not a basic past. Charlie. Okay, it's okay to be excited. I know the games don't count. I know it's not all the starters out there, but man, we've had football in six or seven months. Is it okay to be excited about the number one pick in the draft? Charlie? And yes, Shannon, wherever you are, great for you too.

Don't bring me down, and don't bring each other down, lift each other up, acbar right.

Yeah, I want to thank Caleb Williams for what he's done to your mood. Now to you, you can have like kind of a Scrooge take on things. Sometimes this new found Kyle Brandt appreciation for preseason Caleb Williams, I like it.

It's given you a glow. You've got, like a little bit of a glow like a southern California fan. Y. You know, I'll tell you something. I love preseason because for me, preseason is an opportunity to watch the guys who are battling it out. Who we know, the big name guys. Right, we know the preseason doesn't really count Before a lot of guys, it really does count. And for me, Stetson Bennett was a guy that I absolutely love. The story is, I'm watching the game and I'm watching what looked like a disaster, four interceptions in this game, and for him to come back and turn around and throw the game winning touchdown was outstanding on the fourth and goal. Like, when you think about this situation and what he's gone through last year, he sat out because of mental health issues, and so he had his own issues and struggles that he had to go through. But then to come back like this and to throw four interceptions and fight his way back, this felt like sort of a preseason Rudy story. Maybe Rocky Bout ball going up against Ivan Drago like he fought his way through after getting I mean, you know, getting put in a situation that didn't look so good. So shout out to him and then another special shout out to a wide receiver. I'm gonna keep saying his name, Jordan Winnington. He bawled out in this game. He looked amazing. This dude is I'm telling you there's something going on with the Rams, right. We know that the Packers they know how to find quarterbacks, the Rams know how to find wide receiver Cooper Cupka Nakua, and now Jordan Winnington. Keep your eye on him now. I will tell you, Kyle you're talking about don't sell your stock or sell your cryptocurrency with the kickoff. Don't sell your stock on this guy because this guy is the guy that I believe in for sure. I think he's gonna continue to make noise. And by the way I did jump off, I got burnt on cryptocurrency. I don't want to get burnt by the kickoff. I'm not all in yet on the dynamic kickoff.

Is that why you had to take on our show for your third job?

Yeah? Because yeah, a lot of money, a lot of.

This is Jamie talks JJ, but the question is non quarterback moments. Want to make sure I'm not saying JJ McCarthy. I'm going Justin Jefferson because anytime you invest in a star like Justin Jefferson on hundred and forty million dollars over the summer, you want some buy in from him. You want him to care. So the Vikings Vikings dot Com had the game up. They're like, hey, if you want to watch, it's on locally on Channel nine and Paul Allen's going to be.

And special treat. It says special treat.

During the third quarter, Justin Jefferson is going to be miked up, and they think they're gonna have some benign interview. Do we have the tape because I'm gonnask to roll it, But instead we have Justin Jefferson delivering charisma and engagement like we've never seen it before, and.

Give guy some shots down field.

Now, I want to say that.

Justin Jefferson was thrilled for Tristian Jackson on that touchdown pass, but I have to imagine Peter Kyle that that excitement was also a little bit aimed towards the fact that perhaps it was JJ McCarthy's throw that he was thrilled about. I know he's pumped for his wide receiver teammate, but I feel like there was some subliminal messaging of like JJJJJJ McCarthy, let's go.

Some of the stuff that JJ McCarthy heard in the pre draft process is that he can't throw left. He can just hand the ball off, and if he does make a mistake, he doesn't really bounce back so quickly.

So he threw an interception earlier in the game.

Bounced back, took a couple of hits through the ball left, and then threw that bomb of a touchdown. The funny thing is like Donald's the starter, and Donald is gonna play well also, but like this is a perfect situation for JJ McCarthy, I said an hour ago, like there's no pressure to roll him out there right now. But guess what, go have fun and enjoy that offense. And Jamie, it sounds like the Vikings fan and you really enjoyed that moment as well.

Yeah, I gotta say too, there's a magic somehow the anytime you get a star player in the mid of the in game interview, I feel like a play always happens like there's some sort of magic to it where I have seen that moment over and over and now they.

Don't react as colorfully as Justin Jefferson.

But it inevitably if you get the requisite sideline interview, there's always a big play.

It's never just a few questions in hand the mic off.

So if you're having a little trouble in this preseason, turn out the star player to talk to the local crew.

There'll be big plays coming out your ears.

Man, I would say I felt the same way about this with Justin Jefferson just watching him. There's nothing more rewarding than to see a player who is like genuinely happy for his other teammates to go out there and ball. This is the star wide receiver, Like, this is the dude right and he's sitting here. He could have been cool with his diamond necklace, but instead he was out there really cheering him on. Like what you saw there is exactly who Justin Jefferson is. Look, I have the opportunity to hang out with him for his birthday, and I just thought, this dude loves to laugh, Like he's just a laughing dude going on, just cheering everybody, and I'm like, Yo, this is the same dude on the sideline. You're giving me a look.

I need more details on Justin Jefferson's birthday.

Where was it?

When was it?

Who was it?

Was?

In France?

And France this summer?

Did you know?

Ken?

Just casually be like it was a Justin Jefferson's birthday last week?

You were like, I talked to I was on the phone with Jim Harball last night, Like like I was on the phone with Verizon last night.

You know, I don't know who you're talking.

To this summer.

I will tell you I did.

I did text Kevin O'Connell yesterday about Justin Jefferson. That's true.

I can do that too, So.

That one's not as cool as I was. Peter, you can text anybody. You absolutely won get Jerry Jones on the phone.

We can tell you what, Peter. All right, we two of the preseason kicks off.

I'll tell for it here on NFL Network Thursday night, we get another glimpse of Rokie quarterback Drake May for the Patriots as they take on the Eagles Thursday, seven pm. Right here with the chimes. It's one of six live games this week on our network.

Still to come on our show, though.

One thing you can count on with Jameis Winston is an absolute pregame speech for the Ages.

Is that electric? And I feel like I.

Needed a better adjective than that former teammate of his, Tomoro Davis is burying the leaders in studio. Are you going to weigh in on the art of breaking down the huddle?

Kyle?

Oh?

I thought it was the art of breaking like the break dancing.

Oh, we could do that took you want to talk about that?

But whatever, you want to talk about the fact that you're up and then the studio is amazing. You know, the Olympics are coming to LA years and years from now. What NFL player would you want to see carry the flag in.

Twenty twenty eight?

I'm talking about the United States flag.

We'll get into it.

Waves, good moneyball.

What you're gonna do with that win? Get to blow it?

That wind been blowing on this all seas, has been blowing all seas. You gotta know how to stylish the win.

Let me tell you what the wind is.

The way it is distraction, the hardest thing are trying to get you walk on gold. I'm trying to move, you would have different directed. What you gotta do to sid You gotta focus on what you calling. You already saying what we going? We already staying.

When you're talking to your hot pad.

That's what we said we was.

Going the next Why did you gotta know what's inside of you?

If great is this side of you, it is what's in front of you.

Let's go, man on, don't let three? What do well? Look?

Who the winds blew into?

What is going on?

God?

This is Saints linebacker that somehow we're talking to Tomorrow Davison break and he's, Oh, I'm here.

The soft smoking man comes in the table. That's the same person on the video.

Yeah, welcome, thank you.

It's California for training camp. So and now we just walk us through your where are you right now? And why are you at our studio this morning?

Yeah?

So we're down in Newport Beach and uh practicing at at Irvine And it's an off day. And so when man with six kids, you gotta work work.

You've been putting in a lot of work for a very long time. Man. But we got to talk about the speeches.

Man.

We saw some good speeches, but your speech right there was so was So it just brought me back because not every player has the ability to sit in that huddle and actually do a pregame speech like that. Where does it come from? Are you freestyling? Are you in your room the night before going I'm gonna get these I get them with this one, like talk about that, man, it is.

It is a science to it. Number One, you gotta get in character. And so to get in care may take a week, it may take a night. You know, it just can't be the day of. And so getting in characters like you're trying to get into the spirit of like Leonidas getting ready to go in the battle, or like Maxims really is, you know, getting ready to go into gladiator mode. And so that's the first part, is like getting in the character. And then it's being able to recognize the moment. So it could be like the first game of a season, it could be a playoff game, it could be a critical game versus arrival. So you got to be able to recognize the moment. And then the main thing is being able to connect with your audience. And so in New Orleans you kind of got two audiences. You have your teammates who are getting ready to go in a bottle with you. But it's also like the city. You got to engage the city. And you know, in New Orleans, the city and the players, you know, the team we breathe is one. So you have to be able to think about all of that.

You just made this an art. I didn't know it was an art. I will say I had one bad experience where I had a guy come on I won't say his name, and he try to give a motivational speech and it literally brought us down, like get this dude out of the Oh my goodness, it was so bad. I mean, I grew.

I grew.

So when I was in New York.

When I was in New York my rookie year, in the locker room, you know, coach had just said a few things. We were just kind of sitting around. I was like, I'm going to jump up motivate my teammates. And so I got up and I said a few words, and literally I saw some of my teammates just put their headphone.

That could have.

It's like, shut up, right, rookie. And now now I'm thirteen years in, I get it. I'm like I definitely put my headphones on if a rookie jumped up talking motivator. But I didn't understand that I was coming from high school being the man, coming from college being the man, and so yeah, that was that could have deterred me.

Yeah.

But if at first you don't succeed, try it again.

Try for thirty years, For thirteen years, Kyle.

But also tomorrow. What we do in life ees an eternity. I know you know that, and I love that you were here this morning.

I love you're with us.

You mentioned getting into character. What about someone who never gets out of character? We had we had a clip this weekend. This is hot off the presses. Your former teammate in New Orleans, Jamis is one of the kind. And Jamis is given this.

Speech to his new team in the preseason. We're just gonna roll the video. I want you to take it in. We want your thoughts after go ahead.

We got right now, team, tell you about right.

That's a beautiful dream.

All right, we're living it. We're smiling. We're ready to play tomorrow. You know this guy, You know this this medium of art. What did you think about what you just saw? Man?

First of all, when you talk about James. James is my favorite teammate of all time. And I have a lot of I played with a lot of guys that I that I absolutely love. James is my favorite teammate of all time, unquestioned. I mean, what you see is what you get. First of all, we got to talk about that's probably the most improved speech giver of all time.

Most improved.

Let's let's talk about it.

Let's talk. Let's not act like everybody was all hype about the eaton the WS. So let's start, okay, and then look what's the transformation. Look at the transformation. I mean that a number one. The energy was unreal. I mean he started it with great character. Think about the opportunity. The first thing about the speech. You want to be brief, so you got to get to it. You can't give a whole moneylog. You gotta be simple.

He did that.

Look at how the teammates are engaged, and he started a chick like freestyle a check.

So that's connection.

Now.

I don't know about the spelling. Probably I probably would have. Only James can pull that off. Only James can.

Pull that off.

I mean, look ronical applause, that.

Breakdown of a brief doown tomorrow.

Your thoughts on that happening on August eleven.

No, I think if you look at he just got to a new team, it talks about his leadership ability. How do you go to a new team and they have you out front right away as the man giving the speech. Never it's never too early for that for your leadership to be on displate. And that's that's type of person that Jamis is, you know, I mean, number one player coming out of high school first overall. Pick has had all different type of things happen in his career and he just keep rising to the top. Cream always rise to the top. I'm proud of my guy.

I like that.

I like that.

You know that speech did give me a little remember the Titans field too, Like, I mean, he had the whole thing going like this, and just so he brought the energy. I think it was the energy that sells because you're sitting there, you're getting ready for battle, like you need that energy. You know, he brought that energy.

Well, I mean, if you kiss Jameis he also got like this little rhyme and streak that he got going on. He had the press company when the shot is own, he's old. I just made a rhyme and then he was like, we're a team, all right. I had this in my dream. All right, you gotta catch it. Okay, it's hard to make the Browns work.

He's like, are o W.

I was like, not that, but he made me workd He is only Jameis James.

He did get the commitment for the team, like if there is an inch of cringe, then everyone's putting their headset on.

But that's not how that worked there for.

Jamis tomorrow Davis in studio with us for the whole hour on GMFB.

Now.

The Saints and forty nine Ers were scheduled to have joint practices this week ahead of their second preseason game Sunday, but now it looks like this won't happen, Saints head coach Shenness Allen saying the practices are canceled due to a number of injuries for the forty nine ers. Encircling back to the Cowboys, quarterback Down Prescott says he plans to return to practice Tuesday after dealing with a sore ankle. He says he's doing fine, no cause for concern, but Prescott set out Friday's practice session and isn't expected to play in any of the preseason games regardless of that ankle issue. The Lion's head coach Dan Campbell says he doesn't expect quarterback Hendon Hooker to return to practice until Friday at the earliest. Hooker remains in concussion protocol after suffering the injury in the preseason opener against the Giants. Remember it was his first game back since tearing his ACL twenty one months ago. That was back in his fifth year in college and the congratulations going out to Readers wide receiver Davante Adams. He returned to the team Sunday following the birth of his third child, his first son. At that Adams was away from the team for a couple of weeks in anticipation of the birth of his son, Jamie.

I know they're at the table.

You are the newest member of the three plus kids club, but all of you guys they're having multiple children.

Any advice for the Adams family.

You know, I was just just saying to somebody in the makeup from this morning. I have three kids now and it feels like six weeks like they feel like they multiply. So I appreciate DeVante getting back to work because like sometimes Mondays are easier than how the weekend went.

Well, I will say, you know, having four myself, he will appreciate this as a football terminology. Cover two man cover two. Once you're out number that one on one A ain't happening any has us all.

Trumped because you have six kids?

Yes, yes, coverage are you in and listen defense. Once you get past through you you know, you just keep on going from there. And it's how it, Liz is just you keep switching the zones.

So yeah, this is what I want to say to my home the time for league. It never even happened because we're having no more kids. Presented by surf Bro. Preseason football provides some unique moments, and this one was amazing. Sean McVay new dad to just one kid, but the baby was born last week. All he was miked up. Sean McVay was during the Rams broadcast and McVeigh ends up calling plays during the game. Obviously, take a listen.

This is a big play for.

Us right here, poaching into empty.

More than three.

What the heck we got going here with coach McCarthy.

Big win by Cory Durton.

He got Oh, don't let him escape the come on, Oh, I'll tell you what.

It looks like, you got it.

That's a heck of an effort by Lance Corey Durton.

Wins, got a chance to be able to finish that.

That was I'll tell you what. That's a good competitive play. Can't let him spin out. But you know, Corey did a great job of being able to force him out, inside out, pursuiting Leah Eli. Neil is just sure of being able to run him out.

Oh should I challenge that, guys, challenge challenge? I don't even know, Peter.

I feel like that is perfect and peak Sean McVay. He is our into the regular season practically.

Yeah, and that's all it is.

That's your that's your audition tape. So if Amazon or Fox or CBS or ESPN or here at the NFL network, we're looking for the next great broadcaster of a game like that, that's your audition tape.

No more.

We don't need to bring him in, don't.

Need to put him in a shortain tie, Like that's what it is what I love most about it. Once when the clips starts, he's just like, oh, coach McCarthy's going empty here, like okay, a fourth and three.

Like I love that stuff, the excitement and yeah, mcphai's the man.

Well I like it that, Like even though maybe he's player didn't win.

He's like he liked it that it was good competition out there, Like.

That's all those guys want, is competition. Can we can we just ask the Mario Like you played against coach McVeigh.

What's he like on the sideline? Is he a conversation guy? You ever have any run ins with him?

Oh?

Man, he'd be real doubt dan to his offense. I mean I was. I was impressed by what I just saw right there.

Man.

We can can we get that type of energy like full time, not just McVay, but like coaches analyzing the game, because I'm like, is that coach plumatary happening on the sideline?

It is It's a different perspective too.

That was very interesting. I was very intrigued. And so that's he's very different than that on Sundays. I mean, I'm talking big trash to him on the sideline. He won't even make You're trying.

To engage with him, and he won't reciprocate.

Oh yeah, he's coming. His mind's already on the next play.

You're trying to how many head coaches do you try to.

Engage every one of them? If I make a play on the other team's sideline, I'm like, coach, you know you shouldn't have called that play. You trying to get anything anything, but you know, I mean especially him. I mean he's like I thought I was looking at Terminent.

Is anybody back?

I'd be interested when we play the Broncos. I know Sean Payne's gonna talk.

About what about.

What about Raheem?

I mean, I don't know, you don't know, you don't know what, you haven't got anything, you know, So he.

Might he might, he might buy back, he might mike back.

If you go over that sideline, I mean, I gotta make the play first.

Yeah, that's true, that's true.

Do you do you stop at the head coach or you go coordinators. You'll anybody who makes eye content.

Anybody, don't look Davis the eye.

He's hanging with us on Good Morning Football. Don't go anywhere.

Our show, our topics, everything we gotta cover from over the weekend. Plus have you seen what Jamis Winston did, because we're gonna keep asking tomorrow Davis about it.

His favorite teammate he's ever played with.

Everybody to get that, it sounds a Moosian with the insight.

Good Morning Football.

I think that's one of the things that a lot of people forget. When you can go out, you can see practice, you can nicknack this, that Paddy wag give a dog a bone.

The sun.

Watson is gonna turn it on. He always gonna find a way to shine when the lights come on. Man, I just rhyme.

Can I leave it off that?

But I know definitely gonna. I like how he's looking up, like, Lord, somebody tell me.

Myself any chanced to get out of the media bailability. He's like, I'm gonna leave on that one. That one's gonna hit tomorrow. Davis here with us. Favorite teammate he's ever had is that guy right there at Jamis Winston. Do you think Jamis walked into that is, Like I'm gonna quote Nick Knack Pattywack.

You know what Jamis is one of those rare individuals when he opens his mouth and has the potential to go viral. And I mean Nick Knack, Paddywack, give a dog a bone now. That's a classic line for don't be a minute now, you know, so most people would miss that. But then he rhymed it when when the lights come on, he's gonna be on. I mean, I thought that was incredible. I thought it was incredible, and I mean nobody can do the Jamis type content like Jamis, So you got my respects.

It's borderline genius that he is able to just rattle that stuff off.

I think it's awesome content, and like you said, the players respond to it. We do want to talk a little bit Saint though with you tomorrow while you're here. You guys are out there practicing obviously in Orange County this whole week and last week. Last year, you guys finished off the season four in one of those last five final games.

Dennis Allen retains the job. Derek Carr's back at quarterback.

Like there was momentum there and yet right now the buzz seems kind of low on the Saints. Where are we at with New Orleans as you're there every day and obviously you're one of the guys who's going to be positive about the team.

Absolutely, I think you just you just alluded to it. Man. We had a very strong finish. You got to think, you know, a lot of transition happening at the beginning of the year, a lot of changes, and so kind of finding that run way took a little time, but we founded towards the end of the season, and so for us, a lot of that is building on that momentum that we had at the end. We had an unbelievable mini camp rolls over in the training camp, and then then the first preseason debut. You know, team played played really well, and you know, it's a race to get better across the league. Everybody's trying to get to the same destination and all the aout who can get there faster, and so we're excited going into the season.

Mari, you become one of these really intelligent defensive players in your career because you played for different teams, you played across divisions, different conferences, whatnot.

Most difficult quarterback you've ever had to plan for.

Who.

I think it's a cross between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. Sure you know, you know, prepping for I would say for Peyton Manning it's harder as far as like studying film, just because he was so unbelievable how he would check plays at the line of scrimmage. So when you're going against somebody like that, you're trying to watch the film to get a beat on what he's doing and why he's doing it. And he was just really hard to study for. I had to like recruit help. I had to go to Ed Reid and ask him questions about like how he studied them, and that helped a lot. And then Tom Brady you can have an understanding of what he's going to do or try to do in the game, but it's the defending it once you get in the game that's hard.

When you rely on and Ed Reid for something like that, What is he actually helping you do? Is he just combing through film? Is he sending you things like, Hey, this is a commonality that other guys might not see, but I want to make sure you take note of it.

Yeah, Well, I mean Ed was so observant, you know, and how he watched film, So he would watch like the offensive line, he would look at formation, but then he really studied the quarterback like he knew like based on when he pump fake, this is what he does after the pump fing. He know based on his drop. If he looking one way, he's coming back the other way. Like, So he really taught me how to like study the mechanisms of the quarterback to get a bead on that person, that individual. And I think when you're just looking at the formation and looking at the plays, you can only see so much. But if you're watching the quarterback from the time he snaps the ball to the time he finishes the play, you learn a lot more about the person and the personality of that guy because that's what he's gonna lean on the game when he's on the fire.

Yeah, and Peyton Manning was the master of the recheck, of the recheck of the out of something that was so difficult. But you know, talking about quarterback, who's your favorite quarterback to sack? What old line did you feel like you like, I own this line, like I knew how to get to the quarterback.

I don't know if I've had a favorite quarterback to sack one.

That made you most proud of at the end of the day, like, oh, I got that guy.

You know what? I just say, of all my game balls I have, there's one turnover that I have in my house in Nashville. It's an interception on Tom Brady. Yeah, I mean you an accept the goat. You know, you gotta or one of the goats. You got to keep that forever. So I do a lot of regifting, and so I like a lot of the things that my memory bill and stuff I donate to charity or use his gifts and different things like that. That's different.

Now, you know, would go though, if you get Tom Brady to sign it. You know what, you know what.

Is such a great guy and uh such a great leader and a really good friend that he would do it if I if I have the ball, and so maybe one day I'll get that signature by me.

Let's talk about an old friend tomorrow.

You you said that every game season in season out you like to kind of check in with the other head coach, maybe chirp them a little bit and have a conversation with them. Week seven, the Broncos go to New Orleans the head coach the Broncos, your longtime head coach, Sean Payton. You already mentioned that might be an interesting one. What would you say to coach, like during game? What's your entry point if you want to get under his skin a little bit? What are you gonna say to Sean Payton?

I don't know, you know what, I gotta keep that under wraps.

He knows.

I gotta keep that under wraps, man, because I know right now Sean Payton is watching this and he's trying to get any information, and so I'm just going I'm gonna keep my cars close to this.

Right all right, I know what. I'm just going.

I'm gonna fold him Sean. You got it, You got it tomorrow.

What do you think the reception for Sean will be when he gets New Orleans? We're talking cheers or anything?

Jeers?

Uh, that's gonna be interesting. That's gonna be interesting. I mean, I think there's absolutely no love lost. There's nothing but a tremendous amount of respect for him and what he means to the city. And so if it's anything, you know, like booze or anything like that, it's going to just because of the energy of the game. But I think it's all love. There is nothing belove for him in New Orleans, and it's going to be like that for all the time.

Peter, you know, Sean, how do you think he's going to feel going back into that environment. Is it something he's gonna embrace or does he want to get through it as fast as possible.

I think he's gonna show so much money. He still owns a house there. I think he's gonna be really happy.

But I also think he'll.

Want that win so badly, and he would love to beat you and Cam Jordan and Dennis Allen and of course all the other Saints that he used to work with and also coach. Maybe we'll get him with that suitcase full of money and like he did that one I mean, I mean the stuff that he did, or he'll be doing the dance to chop a dance, whatever it is, he'll bring it back there in New Orleans.

Now to Mario, when you were referencing your favorite quarterbacks that you've gotten, it's all retired guys.

Guys, we don't get to see anymore. I need like a current player that makes you maybe dive a little deeper.

Into the tape or into the game film that challenges you that's playing right now.

I mean, it's a lot of great quarterbacks in the game.

Now.

When you talk about like having to study guys like Jalen Hurts just different, all the different dynamic things that he can do in the game. You know, quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson and how he can hurt you in the run game. But absolutely like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, those type of guys, I mean they make so many game changing plays. And that's what's hard is because you can study so much on film of what they're going to do. But these are guys who come alive after the play breaks down. You can't study that. That's just instincts. So and the game is just being flooded with guys like that now, yea. And I mean it makes for exciting Sundays, that's for sure.

Playmakers, Yeah, playmakers. So that's why they need you to chase them down.

I don't know about the uniform rules in the NFL anymore, but like, are you allowed to wear that cursive D.

Medallion on your jersey? Because that's awesome.

I appreciate it. I appreciate it. You know, it's all about the details.

It's all about the details. Let's see what you did there.

Preps his pregame speeches. He preps it down to the little attention to detail. When he shows up out GMFB tomorrow, Davis, you're gonna hang with us?

That is the question. The twenty twenty four Olympics.

When they ended yesterday, I just kind of a plumber. But that means LA is on the clock for the twenty twenty eight Olympics. So you saw Lebron carry the American flag for the opening ceremony, begs the question, Guys, which NFL player would you want to see carry the flag in the twenty twenty eight Olympics tomorrow. I'm gonna make you answer first, who would you want to see carry the flag?

Listen, I always try to take the humble approach, but right here I cannot be here. I gotta say. I gotta put the bed in for myself. Okay, hear me out. Hear me out, Oh, get me out, hear me out. Firstly, we already had the pregame speech, so you're gonna need some type of entryway into this.

Now.

It's the first year that the NFL flag is coming to the game. Yeah, so why not have an NFL person You have the opening speech to the Olympics.

Ooh see where you go?

Just check the resume, check the profile. Okay, all there, But then I got, first of all, I gotta give a shout out to this Olympics. You look at people like Sydney McLoughlin, you look at like Gabby and in their press conferences, how they gave praise and gave glory to Jesus. I'm gonna do that as well. And so I just feel like all things America I represent and I would represent for us well in the NFL. Yeah, like the Olympic.

Up music going on, Peter Kyle, give you a goosebumps?

What to Mario goes listen, and then I'm like, I'll listen to anything you're about to tell me right now, like this guy has read at this point.

Listen, Peter, who you got.

I'm gonna go more local.

I appreciate Tomrio's pitch for himself. No, I'm not gonna say myself. That's the last thing I want to say, although I am repping the USA all right. Eighty four was the last time we had LA The Raiders were a team that played in LA. There's a guy in NFL history who went to USC, played his football at USC, then went on won a Heisman, and went on to play for the Raiders in LA. I want Marcus Allen. I'm going Marcus Allen. I think he represents Los Angeles. He has this feeling of like the eighty four Olympics. He was a part of the LA culture. Then he's still a part in twenty twenty eight.

I'm gonna go.

Marcus Allen, the Great Trojan and LA Raider.

I'm gonna say he's my pick for the torch bearer for the twenty twenty eight.

You know you're a nostalgist. I respect it. I'm moving towards the future. You had me at USC. Trojan.

You gotta see what's gonna be happening in twenty twenty eight. Give the flag to Caleb Williams.

Let's go. We got a new superstar in the NFL. Give it to Caleb la star power. Everything you want.

You can paint his fingernails red, white and blue and everybody will love it. Caleb Williams in twenty twenty eight will be there.

We go. Just put the flag in his hands. In the United States won every single medal. Boom, that's it.

Who else you got, guys, It's amazing.

You know what.

Look, I'm all over the place. I'm undecided. I was going to try to find a guy from LA to try to match it. But then I said, you know what, go Kirk Cousins. But then, you know what, I'm gonna stick to my original answer. It's Patrick Mahomes. Don't boom, Patrick Mahomes. He is mister America. I mean, look what he's done for the NFL. I mean, look, I was in Monaco and they had Kansas City changed stuff in Monaco.

Fright. We love you. Thanks for no connection to LA.
