The Good Morning Football Podcast is part of the NFL Podcast Network

Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.

Good Morning Football.

And that's exactly how we start every Monday, smiling coffee talking about football.

On our show. This is Good Morning Football. We are live here in Los Angeles. I'm vim hear at all. That is akbar Bush Bill, Good morning to you.

That is kind of Brandt over there in the Baby Blues and Maanta te I was.

Back at the table. So you were with us a few weeks back.

You had some TV experience and then you said, no, I want to sign up for this for the full season, so you're back.

I missed you, guys.

You bought that line. I missed you, guys.

It reminded me when I played football, and you know NFL was. I was hurt a lot during my unour, unfortunately, and when you're hurt, you don't try.

But with the team.

Oh, so you're watching the game from the from the living room and you're watching your fam go out there a lot of battle your like.

I wish I was over there, right, That's how it was.

I know, Jamie. I'm sending Jamie.

Textans, Yes man, I watches nice Jamie. Good job immediate.

Feedback, right, Tea.

We love it.

We love having you back.

Buckle in your here for a couple of days, Kyle, Let's check out some.

Highlights on over the weekend. Shall we as a part of the lead block.

Let's do it.

I'll tell you what's hurt right now.

Those sleeves on Manty, they're begging for dear life.

Just hang in there for the rest of the show. Man, How you look great? So is what Levis though. It's a good friend of ours.

He starts the game for the Titans, and he looked really good.

That's Calvin Ridley. Remember Calvin Ridley signed a ninety two million dollar deal.

You know, ceedee lamb can't get work. Levis played two drives, looked really good, seven one hundred and eighteen yards. See week one at Soldier Field against the Bears. Levis looks good. Rat Laird Derek Carr did not play. It's preseason games, folks.

They're almost over.

I promise we are inching closer to it. There's Bonix.

He was being a starter last week for the Denver Broncos. He started this game, gave way to Jared Sidham and then it was Zach Wilson time. Later in the game, Broncos go up big thirty one to twelve.

They would go on to win this one.

So at this point, Zach Wilson, what's the quarterback two to three conversation going on in Denver?

Also?

What is the quarterback one conversation going on in New England?

And it maybe just be whoever is left standing? This is unbelievable.

Resett gets crushed by kJ Henry for the Commanders. He would finish with kind of like a banged up shoulder, grimacne.

Maybe it's not that serious. You know what is serious the ability of Drake May.

This guy is first team all preseason. If there was such a thing, just sharp, confident, fast, strong, corn fed, pick your adjective, it describes Drake Major.

The conversation is changing, We're gonna have it shortly.

Is there any way that this guy is out there for the opener, especially with.

Prissett banged up?

Now?

I mean May he just looks the part, He looks calm, The arm is massive, the offensive line is absolutely.

Horrendous, and yet he's still out there making plays. And I know it's against backups. I know, I know you don't have to keep telling us You've been telling this for a month.

The Patriots look like a completely different unit When he is out there. He looks everything you would want there he is, though on the bench. Will he be there for Week one? Drake May thirteen or twenty and twenty six yards and a touchdown, looked really sharp. A lot of talk afterwards about we're set shoulder The opener, guys, is thirteen days away.

Jamie Ardolf, Oh, it sounds beautiful, Kyle, so frustrating you're in New York. You took the words right out of my mouth. Smart, strong, fast, and corn fed. That's Tom Pelasero for me. That's exactly how I was going to intro our news guy, our insider, Tom Pelazero joining us for the first time of the season here on Good Morning Football, Tom the Patriots Week one QB one.

How do we navigate this well?

Jamie Girod.

Mayo says that he intends to have a starting quarterback decision by tonight, but may have given some pretty strong hints. In his postgame press conference, he talked about the fact that the best players are going to play. He referred to the rookie Drake May as the second best quarterback on the Patriots roster. The real question here is just going to be on the medical front. Mayo said that Jacoby Brissett could have returned.

To the game.

The plan was always to get him out after one series. They got back in the wee hours early this morning. They're gonna check out Brissette over the course of the day. It is an injury, a hit that he took on his throwing shoulder. All things equal, though, all the arrows seem to continue to point to Jacobe Brissett being the starter at the beginning of the season. This makes sense on multiple levels. For one thing, the Patriots offensive line is certainly a big question mark lead into the season, as evidenced by the missed block that led to Jacoby Brissett getting blasted last night. Also, Drake may going back to the pre draft process, was the quarterback.

When I talked to coaches and scouts.

Everybody said probably needed the most time to get himself ready.

Now we've seen what he can do on the field.

He's dynamic, he's fast, he can make things happen with his arm and his legs. But the instincts all along have seemed to be Jacoby Brissett was going to be the starter out of the gate. Health aside, it certainly seems like things are still trending in that direction.

Jamie, all right, well, I'm sure Drod Mayo did not sign up for first time head coach, hire an entire new staff and then have a quarterback decision that is going down to the wire ahead of this season. It's a lot on a first time head coach. Tom, thank you so much. We'll talk to you and we'll see you in a little bit. This is one that has taken up our eyeballs, our brain space, our conversation here on the show several times over the last couple weeks.

It's Drake may It's Jacoby Brissett, Mantai.

What would you do you remember in the movie Friday Night Lights, when take me back sure, when Booby Miles gets hurt before that Midland game and he goes to go see the doctor and the doctor says, you're not ready. Goes back to coach, coach asked what did the doctor say?

He said, The doctor said he lied. He said, the doctor sam, I'm ready. The uncle looks at him.

As the coach that coach, yeah, we're ready. What happens He goes to the game. The coach has them on the sideline, They're getting their butts kicked, pressures kind of building, and the coach, against his better judgment, puts Booby in the game. We all who've seen the movie, you understand what happens in that situation. How does this relate to this Drake may scenario. If the coach would have just trusted his instinct, I think this whole story would be different. Do we all think here at Good Morning Football that he should be in this game? Yeah, we think he should be the starter. But Coach Mail, trust your instinct. If you ask Drake Mail on week one, Drake, are you ready to go? I bet you everything I have, Drake says, going to say, Coach, I'm ready. But Coach Mayl, trust your instinct. If he is not your week one starter. When he takes the field and things aren't going well for you and the New England Patriots, the whole Jillette Stadium is probably going to be chanting his name. Drake May, Drake May, Coach Mayl, trust your instinct.

You know what it looks like.

You had one of the greatest examples of what the NFL ready quarterback looks like.

And Tom Brady not.

Just by his physical abilities, but more importantly his mental abilities.

Do we all want to see him out there?

Yes, we do, But personally, for me, what do I want to see it for Drake may I want Drake May to have that fifteen plus year career with the New England Patriots and be able to say I had this type of career with one team because my head coach trusted his instinct So what I love to see Drake may out there? Of course I would, I think everybody else would, But Coach Mayo, please just trust your instincts on this one.

Yeah, I feel like his instincts should be to throw Drake in there. We know that Drake lost the battle to Kendrick Lamar, but this Drake clear out. He won this battle, in this quarterback battle, if you want to call it a battle, the dude won. I mean, he looks amazing. And then I start looking at personnel. I started looking at what the front office and their moves think about it. They didn't bring any big free agent in there, They get rid of Judaon, they ship him out of there, like everything is starting to look towards like, you know, let's give him this opportunity. They've got a clear, blank canvas right now. They are building something new. We already know what the history of the new one Patriots, right we know the great Rings and Tom Brady and Belichick. It's a new era, and it's with the new era, you got to start with the paint brush.

It's a beautiful looking paintbrush right there.

They tell me you saw something that makes you question why he shouldn't be in there. He's going to learn on the fly, like you notice Manti, like you step out there. There's nothing you did in college that goes like, oh yeah, I'm ready.

Right, you got to get your jaw broken in a little bit. He's got to get his jaw broken in a middle bit. Yeah, a little callous, and then boom, he's ready to go. I say, play on it. They trip it if they don't play Drake May. And they know it to His instinct is saying play Drake May.

Listen, when someone tells you who they are, believe them when they tell you for the entire preseason, over and over, believe them. Nobody is dying to play Drake May. But you have this, this really gifted child, and he should be moved up in a grade he should be moved among his peers. And it's like, I'm kind of nervous about that. He's gonna be the youngest. He might not fit in socially, but you're doing him a disservice.

Move the kid up.

However, However, I've been talking about this for a month. I watched that game. Oh my god, that kid who you're gonna move up in grades. He can handle the class, but not if when he's walking into the school he gets hit by a bus. Guys, I'm doing a complete heel turn on this. That offensive line is going to kill him. I think the offensive line just one. Jacoby Brissette the job. Let me just give you a rundown, a rundown of what happened to New England's offensive line in this game.

They had ten penalties.

All right, this is the payer's trying to protect their Drake May. They're Michael Jordan, the center was involved in two bot snaps. The two tackles had four legal formations. The left guard had holding and he left with injury. His replacement at left guard, whose name is literally Michael Jordan, immediately had a holding penalty. Then their rookie guard Land Robinson at a false start, a holding call, gave up a sack that hurt Jacoby Bris.

The untold story of the Jacobe Preset.

Deal, and this is detailed beautifully by Andrew Callahan the Boston Herald. He was brought in sure to mentor Drake May to bridge the gap. He was brought in to get the crap kicked out of him, like a crash test dummy.

He knew that, the Patriots knew that.

Everybody knows that, and it took about five seconds in that last preseason game for him to get up grimacing because no one can block anyone. I think Drake May is completely ready to play. I think the offense is different when he's out there. I think the whole vibe is different when he's out there. And yes, jirod Mayo, he's definitely the best quarterback on your roster. But I think the Pats offensive line just lost Drake May the starting job because they're not going to put him out there to get his head kicked in in the first week. Maybe after a month, but even me who's been saying Drake May, Drake May, Drake May play, they were completely irresponsible put him out there behind that line that they will either get him hurt, get him confused, get him penalized, probably all of the above. His first game would be a snuff film and I don't want to see it. You can't do it. It's crazy how bad they are. I'm convinced I was wrong.

Yeah.

I mean in terms of like classroom decision making, doesn't matter how fast Drake may can do anything on the board if he has zero time after a snap to be able to decide what to do and how to handle his week one rookie start, Kyle, I go back to you with the kids analogy.

I have a fresh five year old.

She should be going to kindergarten this fall, but we moved across country. She's had major changes in her life. She's trying to catch up, so we held her back. We're going to make our six year old kindergartener next year. There is nothing wrong with the fact that this girl might be the tallest in her class, she might be more emotionally said, she's going to be a nineteen year old freshman when she goes to college. We're happy about that, we're proud for that, and we know she's going to be equipped for life when it comes to that. So Drake May, to your point, I'm not just here for a good time for the Patriots. I want him there for a long time. And it should not matter if he's the weak ones start. There's no one who says when he's walking into the Hall of Fame in twenty and twenty five years like man, I am so glad I was a week one starter my rookie season. No, you want him to be with one team for fifteen years. You want him to stand up tall, feel great about what he's putting out there, and fans, I can almost guarantee.

That in New England, they don't.

They would not care if it meant that man was there for more than ten years.

You got trust your instinct.

It's not that immaculate though, guys, and you know this, like what happens after in the middle of the first game, in the middle of the second game, when Brissett just doesn't have it or he's getting destroyed, and you're saying, all the fans are gonna be chanting for Drake May. They know that Drake May is better, they know they want to put him in. But you have a first time head coach who is probably way over his head. A defensive head coach, of course he wants to put him in, but it's not that simple, like he would get him even more hurt and set back if he puts him in the middle of a game.

I just don't know. Now we're starting the season.

It's obvious that Drake May has it, that Drake May is just gonna sit all year. Now, the crowds will start to react, the teammates will start to react. It can be a mess really fast when you're obviously not playing your best quarterback.

You know, the one concent that I have with that is that if God forbid, if Jacoby Brissett then gets hurt by this offensive line that has all these penalties and can't block, then you're forced with then still with the same situation, who are you going to play. You're not going to bring the thirst during quarterback in over Drake May because you want to protect the future. So even at that you're still going to be faced with that decision of playing Drake May. So it's just one thing to ponder about. At some point he's got to play, whether you throw him out there early or Jacobe becomes the crash dumba gets beat up, and then he's so beat up he can't play.

Week three comes around.

What are we doing?

You still got to play?

Drake may So, Drod Mayo, I think is speaking right now, like on a radio in station in Boston. So it'll be interesting to see how these decisions unfold as today goes, because, as Kyle just said, thirteen days is a long time to make this call and then sit and live with the decision.

Ahead of the week one opener, let's.

Go AFC North when we come back here, Good morning football. The Browns are looking to make back to back postseason appearances.

We talk about this a lot on the show. Man is sometimes it feels strange talk about the Browns. They're really good, they're.

Really talented, but it's like the sun. Don't look them direct without blinking.

That's dangerous.

How about one of their division rivals, Mike Tomlin still's not named the starter. We saw Russ over the weekend, we saw justin Fields. Did Mike Tomlins see what he needs to see to.

Name the starter?

Will break down who we think it should be, who it will be?

And Akbar is gonna go into the boxing ring. Ocbar, what are you doing?

You know?

What I'm going to tell you who's gonna win this fight.

It's an interesting fight.

All right, let's go, good mom. All right, here we go, Steelers Lions. The big deal for.

The Steelers, because that guy's gonna decide who's gonna be his starter, and he's got some pretty high pipe profile.

Guys fighting for it. Russell Wilson starts the game. This is really early first drive of the whole game.

Clean pocket, great throw, George Pickens thirty two yards down the Lions twenty nine.

Looks great.

This is what you want. This is exactly what we're looking for. And if he plays like this, it's gonna be the starter. Russ leaves the game just two for two, twenty six yards touchdown drive. All right, well here comes Fields. Russ look pretty good. You better do something here justin you'd like to see Fields show off more, maybe run throw a touchdown pass, but it's kind of not how these plays are called. Field's not ready. Is trying to send the receiver in motion. The snap comes, they go down. It's a disaster. You don't want to see that. But Fields gets back out there looking looking, and just not a chance. Listen, he went through this a lot with the Bears, and he's going through it again with the Steelers. So if that's it, did Russell Wilson win the job with two throws?

Really?

One throw on the sideline? The Steelers lost the game, but we're gonna wash out. Who's got the advantage now? Because it's over, guys, the next game they play will be for real.

I'm girod meyo.

At least I'm looking at Mike Tomlin like, well, at least that guy still can't decide on who his quarterback is. And he's been coaching as a head coach a lot longer than I have. This continues to be a conversation who is the starting core? We're back in Pittsburgh, op bar, you stand tall with this opinion.

I really do. This has been an interesting one.

I mean, in fact, I was up all night like going like, who's gonna win this one?

Really?

So yeah I was, And so it actually inspired me to write a poem. This is a big fight. This is like a boxing match.

This reminds me of some of those old school boxing boxing matches.

I grew up watching. So I wrote a poem. You guys want to hear poetry and box?

Yeah?

It was inspired by the great Muhammad Ali. You know, I look at these guys. They're in the Still City. It sounds like like this is what it's supposed to be. So here we go. I put it together.

This is right here. This is the fight card right here.

All right, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the main event.

In the black corner, standing tall with.

The experience, the precision, and the poise of a season champion. The man who's no stranger to the spotlight, with the move so slick they call him dangerous.

It's Russell Dangerous Wilson.

And in the yellow corner, the young contender with fire in his eyes, next to the Allegheny River, ready to prove he belongs.

At the top.

The rising star who's been making waves and won't back down. It's the electrifying, just enlightening film Still City.

There's only one thing left to do. Let's throw down. Here we go. This is how the fight goes down.

Wilson steps into the challenge and Phil starts to retreat. All of a sudden, Phil's moving back further. He'll be out of a ride, so let's ride. Wilson scrambles to the left. Wilson scrambles to the right, looking old Russ dangerous in the spotlight. Phil's keeps retreating, but there's not enough room. It's only a matter of time till Wilson seals the deal. But still Wilson seals his doom. That's all right, keep with me, Phils keeps fighting.

Keep going.

Phil's stands still standing, but his host wears a frown as the Veteran's skill starts shutting him down.

Now Phil disappears from view.

The fans are getting frantic, but Coach Tomlin is dynamic.

Then Wilson hits with the pass.

What a beautiful throw and the ball fails through as if guided by the globe.

What a sight to see, and the fans now know who the starter will be. Hold on, hold On.

Phil's is still hustling, but Coach Thomlins stands tall. It's the veteran He's chosen and Russell's got it all. Who would have thought when they came to this show that they see Wilson rise and Phil's low. Yes, the crowd didn't know when they first saw this fuss, but now it's clear's day that Russell's got all the goodies to stay and not my goodies and still the undisputed quarterback starter for the Steelers, Russell.

Will So.

I got a little punch drunk at the top there, but I was able to get through it.

But it's Russell Wilson.

I mean, this is one that I went to bed at like midnight working on this and in.

Morning television talk that's not that's not good for your health.

No, it's not good for your health.

But it was worth it because I really want to see Russell Wilson come back. So many people are sleeping on Russell Wilson, and I truly believe he's the guy and the starter for this.

You've lived in that for quite some time and you continue to think it and think of thing, and like we got to wait and see from Tomlin.

But that if that was convincing enough and he.

Watched this, and you think Tomlin is going to say, you know what, okbar, you convinced me with that that was poetic.

That would be a huge compliment. Kyle.

I wrote a poem. It goes like this, Roses are red, violets are blue. The Steelers are in trouble with either of these two.

That's it.

That's all I got.

Listen speaking of trouble, ogbar, listen to me listening if you are staying up all night in August, worried about the Steelers quarterback competition. There's a month around these parts called December. We were all just zombies, just looking for flesh to eat to stay alive and trying to keep our eyes open. And you can't be staying up all right now, man, but save that stuff.

This is a long season, man. I talk about the Steelers quarterbacks. I'm opposite of everybody. I like Justin Fields. I personally like Justin I always like Justin I think. I mean Kyle talked about the New England Patriots O line. The Steelers O line was just as bad. Like you're you're messing up fumbles.

In the first preseason game against the Houston Texans, the center snaps the ball.

Without Justin Fields even looking.

I was watching the Steelers training camp very closely.

When Russell Wilson.

Was out, Justin Fields.

Was bawling like he was bawling.

All you heard from the training camp was Russell Wilson and George Pickens and that relationship, I mean, yeah, Justin Fields, that whole relationship and that dynamic just growing and I think.

As a player, he was bawling because he.

Didn't have to look over his shoulder and worry, coach, are you going to take me out of this practice? Are you going to take me out of the game? Coming from a player who's been in that situation, it's so different when you're in a situation where you're constantly looking to the sideline, like coach, am I staying in on this play?

Are you taking me out?

Nick?

Series?

When Justin doesn't have that type of pressure, he just flourishes. And not to mention, you need a quarterback back there by the preseason the way that oline looks that can extend place. Now Russell can do it, but he can't do it as well as Justin.

I was listening to a Steelers podcast this and these guys started in on the elephant in the room is who wide receiver two is gonna be? And I was like, what elephant are you missing? How are you not leading this conversation with who your quarterback is going to be?

Who is throwing these guys the ball?

I don't care if it's wide receiver seven. This has not been resolved yet for anybody.

It doesn't make any sense. What elephant.

What circuits are you at that you can't talk about this for thirty minutes straight when it comes to a Steelers conversation. I don't know if the rest of the team is good enough to hold up to Steelers teams in the past.

Well, it just was very I didn't understand it, Kyle.

But I mean, have you landed on this because you just did an about face when it came to the Patriots quarterback situation?

Are you tiptoeing into doing the same in Pittsburgh.

I'm not tiptoeing on this. Take that.

I love this glamorous West Coast Hollywood life. Jamie's living with You's spending her weekends listening to Steelers podcasts as she's parents her three young daughters. Jamie, you are such a superstar. What a celebrity. That's incredible. Staying true to yourself, Linda, I know I do, and you do, and I love that you love it.

Listen this. It's probably gonna be Russ.

He made a really good throw to Pickens and what was genuinely like a head to head audition.

I think man time makes some great points.

Neither one of these guys ran away with it. Neither one of these guys is blowing anybody away. Everyone's both faulted. Listen, I'm a Bears enthusiast. We've been seeing for three or four years waiting for Justin Fields to make the jump. Never really has. Russell Wilson hasn't played terribly well in.

About three years.

It's like they got in bed with both these guys, and I get one of them has to be the person. They're gonna have to choose somebody. But it's like being at a restaurant and they read you the specials and you're like, I guess I gotta get one of them.

Just take that one. I hope it's good. I don't know.

I think there's a lot of trepidation right now for Steelers fans.

And also same thing with the Patriots. Let's say they start Russ Wilson.

Let's hope this doesn't happen, but halftime of the first game, he's got two interceptions and they're down thirteen points. Are we already saying put Fields out there and saying vice versa. It's not a real strong vice gript that either one of these guys got. It's a lot of unknown going into the season.

It's not. It's not a real fun place.

To be the last time, Russell Wilson was in this situation where he had a lot of haters and a lot of people doubting him. So when he came in as a third round draft pick, you remember Matt Flynn was supposed to be the guy. Yeah, everybody's oh no, there's no way, But there's no way this short little guy can out do Matt Flynn, who they just signed a bunch of money to. Well, you know what I think he's feeling. He's gonna tap into that a lot of people are doubting him, and I feel like Russell Wilson, when he's doubted, that's when he shows up big time.

So just just watch for it.

But the NFL is back with four days of football when the twenty twenty four season begins with the Baltimore Ravens playing the Kansas City Chiefs. Watched that live on September fifth at seven thirty pm Eastern on NBC NFL Kickoff presented by YouTube TV.

Well, good morning everyone.

Tuesday is the deadline for teams to get their rosters down to fifty three, but it's also time for players who are holding into decide to get back on the field as the regular season approaches. Yes, we are looking at you, Bengals receiver Jamar Chase.

He participated in.

Team practice for the first time this training camp Sunday. Chase is holding in as he looks for a new deal. The All Pro is in the final year of his rookie deal. Then here in La, the Rams granting linebacker Ernest Jones the Ford permission to seek a trade. NFL Networks Kim Woolf reporting contract talks between the Rams and Jones's agent stalled, leaving the team to allow his agent to find a new landing spot. Jones led the Rams with one hundred and forty five tackles last season. Then to Miami somewhat of a surprise move, as the team released Mike White, who served as the backup to two A Tongue of Bi Loa last season. White signed a two year, eight million dollar contract with the Dolphins last season. The move, though, saves Miami three point five million dollars in cap space. Then, finally, we have some sad news to report. Raven's offensive line coach Joe oh d Alessandris passed away the age of seventy after an acute illness in a statement released by the Ravens, saying Joe d lived a life of boundless faith, love and devotion and inspiration. As a father, husband, grandfather, friend, and coach, Joe made every individual he encountered truly feel like they were the most important person in the world. Now, the Ravens players on both sides of the ball showing just an outpouring of love on social media over the weekend for Coach d.

Jamie Sherry, all those adjectives are so perfectly appropriate for Coach D, who was one of these people who made you feel like he's known you for years the first time you shook his hand. Ever since we heard of Coach Jod's illness in the summer and then his subsequent passing yesterday, I thought a lot about him, and I landed on this that it was no wonder that in this man's job description in the NFL became to build up the position group whose job it is to protect your favorite player too, to create an offensive line so great that it makes your quarterback feel invincible. Jod was gifted to us to make those around him better and to feel invincible. Yet as an offensive line coach, he didn't just build guys up in bulk and skill. He elevated those he coached in great character and emotional stamina.

And if you heard as Sherry just said or read.

Anything about him over the weekend, included in his coaching prowess was his willingness to reach you beyond the building, no matter where he coached. If you spend some time today reading about his former players and how they spoke of coach Jod, the man who demanded players to put their bodies on the line, poured himself into making them better humans and in turn turned undrafted guys into pro bowlers. I reached out to several in the Ravens organization yesterday and one sentiment kept coming back to me, which was, I will miss talking to him.

I will miss our talks.

And that is somebody who spends time getting to know you and making the building better. Who was married to his wife Tony for forty two years before she passed in twenty twenty two, it was known that he poured himself into his Raven's family, as well as his three daughters and a gaggle of grandchildren. Since Tony's passing, John Harbaugh said yesterday. I admired him, I loved him, and I am going to miss him because Joe Dee was a joy and Tony has him back now.

Joe DALLASANDRAS coach Joe.

D after giving forty five years to the game that brings us to Good Morning Football every day, passed away Sunday at the age of seventy.

Good Mono moll all Right, Chargers Cowboys. The Chargers having survived a perilous elevator incident that we're going to talk about later. Dak Prescott out on the field, justin Herbert not out on the field, has not played the entire preseason. More on the elevator later, Guys, Trey Lance through five interceptions in this game.

Five it's historical.

Is it the most ever in a preseason game? I have the answer for that coming up later. There's another one with two seconds left, going to tie the game. It is interception number five. Give me a Dak reaction shot. Yeah, they were trying to win the game. He threw forty nine passes, five of them were picked off.

More of him later.

That guy has thrown no passes in the preseason. That's DeShawn Watson.

He hasn't started yet for the Browns in August Gina Smith. He didn't play the first two weeks, but the Seahawks did see him quarterbacks in the start of this game.

Then it's DK.

Metcalf, which if DK Metcalf is good again this year, my lord, watch out for the Seattle Seahawks. Right, Manti, right right, We're gonna talk about it, Seahawks with this one.

Thirty seven to thirty three, that's a lot of preseason action.

Is very exciting for the Seahawks. There's Julian Love with his player on his shoulder. Oh, it's great for the Seahawks. Let's circle back to that first base that we saw in that highlight, shall we. It's a quarterback to Shawn Watson not playing again after playing in just a half a dozen games last season. How do we go about talking about the Browns as we enter the regular season with them once again with Deshaun Watson as their quarterback, But we just don't know what version of him we're getting.

In my opinion, they have to take a play from the Denver Broncos playbook and just move on.

Oh, you move on.

I think sometimes franchises you get into a situation where you invested so much money into a player and it's not working out, and you're just hoping and praying that all of this money. Just Listen, Miles Garrett isn't getting younger, Nick Chubb isn't getting younger, Denzel Ward, Grand del Pitt, David Nojoku. You have the supporting cast to be really really good year in and year out. You have a defense that just dominates the NFL football game, but your quarterback hasn't been able to produce like how you're hoping them to. So in this situation is just one of those things where, hey, it was something that we were hoping worked, but it hasn't.

Let's move on. Let's take advantage of what we have and the window was now. So that's that's my opinion.

Yeah, it's that's uh. I hear you.

Huh Do you agree?

I don't agree to move on from Deshaun Watson. I'm probably one of the very few people that still believes in Deshaun Watson. I know, we have not seen, you know, Deshaun Watson play in you know, more than six games since twenty twenty. I mean, and that's when he was playing at a high level. Obviously there's been off the field issues, there's been injuries, and this could be the very first year we see that, Like he could be a candidate for the Comeback Player of the Year. I truly believe they've got all the weapons around him, from Amari Cooper to you know, obviously Joel Buntonio, Miles Garrett on the other side, Denzel on the other side. Like this is a solid team and the way they looked last year with him without him, this is a good team. So Deshaun Watson really, to me, the pressure is off, like you got dogs around you, Like you're ready, You're set now. All he has to do is just put in the mentals. I mean from a front office standpoint you're talking about, you know, like maybe you know because being forced because they they put all this money into they really don't have another option, Like like you could go with Jamis Winston, right, you.

Could, but can I interest you in some Dorian Thompson Robinson.

Dtr I'm cool, cool, but to your point.

Yeah yeah I know, I know, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm cool.

Deshaun Watson.

Is you pay two hundred and thirty million dollars, you go get everything you like?

I know if I bought something for two.

Hundred and thirty Oh, I'm gonna get everything out of it. Even if it starts to break down, I'm gonna get everything out of it. I think Deshaun Watson's gonna be comeback player of the year.

Oh wow, Okay, so we're throwing half far.

I think that's fascinating.

We run the gamut in this conversation, and that's what makes them interesting, from move on to comeback player of the year.

Here, here's just some facts.

Okay.

The Browns traded three three first round draft picks for him, plus some more picks. They signed them a five year, two hundred and thirty million dollar deal, fully guaranteed.

At this point, he still has over.

One hundred and thirty million dollars fully guaranteed left on the contract. So like they're in bed with Deshaun Watson and he ain't leaving. I don't know if they know what he's going to give them. I don't know what if I know, If you know, the fact is an acbar hit on this. Deshaun Watson has not had a full, complete quality season since twenty twenty. That's the COVID season. It's been that long. That doesn't mean he's not going to be good again. It just means, my god, it's been a long time seas he has been out there. Deshaun Watson, he was a superstar, He's a top five guy in the league, and now it's completely a mystery. Add to that, he has the reigning Coach of the Year who won that award based mostly on a playoff run that they made with Joe Flacco out of nowhere, during which there were real conversations being had about you know, the team responds to Joe Flacco a lot better than they ever did to Deshaun Watson, and we guaranteed a quarter billion dollars notice that Joe Flacco is not there anymore, of course, and got them the hell out of there because we can't have that conversation. I think is I've said this before, the most enigmatic team in the entire NFL because the star of the team who is guaranteed to be there for a long time, we have no clue what we're getting from him, and there's very little conversation about it because there's nothing to sink your teeth into. We talk more about justin Field's practice reps in that division than we do about the actual starting quarterback DeShawn Watson. You got Burrow, you have Lamar, you have whoever the Pittsburgh Steelers choose. And then it's like, oh, yeah, there's Watson, who at one point was looked at as the future of the league, maybe the face of the league before everything went to hell. I don't know what to expect week one, and remember Week one, Brown Cowboys, tom Brady's first call as an announcer. Everybody's watching it, everybody's listening to it, and I think even Tom Brady himself is looking at Watson and being like, show us something.

Man, it's been a while.

I have no clue what to expect, and I don't even know if Kevin Stefanski does.

Yeah, yeah, it has been a minute. And I would just say this too to Deshaun Watson. Look, I never made this type of money.

I don't know.

I couldn't even imagine. But here's what I do know.

Sometimes money makes you buy into your own celebrity, It makes you buy into your own hype. I would say, strip yourself of the celebrity, strip yourself of all the hype. Men, Stay healthy and ball out. Don't let that stuff cloud your vision. Man, you're a talented dude. I believe in Deshaun Watson. I'm telling you, DeShawn. Just hear me out, bro ball out.

I have a stack of billion papers over there with highlights from the weekend.

It just plays on plays on plays. But sometimes we've got to break away from the.

Desk and talk about your favorite moments from football.

First moment for me, okay, there is strong and then there's vitam a strong.

Come here, little, I'm gonna take you for a ride.

You're supposed to go the other way O line.

That is called resetting the line of scrimmage.

I wish Via was my nose guard. I probably would still be playing the NFL.

That's Roman punishment, bro mad that's awful.

My goodness, you know what I tell you.

My favorite moment from the weekend going to that forty nine Ers Raiders game.

This game was back and forth.

It should have been interesting, but they made it real good. But this last minute throw here helped Mary throw and all of a sudden you see them going back and forth and then look at this a little fumble Rooski. This was so fun to watch it. I was sitting there on the end, like what's gonna happen? As you know, there is no overtime in the preseason, so they were making the last ditch ever. Good good job by the forty nine ers, but they didn't make it happen.

It was fun.

The sideline cared so much like where's the ballot? If only that had finished that way, we'd have made an entire segment.

Oh so good, Kyle.

If Bryce Young can do this, are we gonna spend nine minutes on it the way we watched Kayleb.

Williams play in the preseason.

Because I saw something out of the Panthers quarterback this weekend that looked awfully familiar to what we unpacked. I mean, that's a nice throw.

That is a nice row.

And if we are going to be so hard, even with the buckle on clip of the helmet, we're going to be so hard on Bryce Young coming out of his rookie season, we cannot.

We have to allow him space.

For me.

I saw this and I was like, I'm sorry, I'm having deja vu?

Where have I seen this before?

I believe Kyle through me that one of the top three throws in the NFL of AULTI time now I'm going to add a fourth one to the list.

Oh let him.

I'm not comfortable with Caleb and Bryce side by side.

I'm just not.

But here, you know what, here's my favorite part of the preseason. My favorite part of the preseason was this weekend when the final seconds ticked away on the last preseason game and the preseason was over. And I say that out of respect for the athletes, the guys trying to make the teams, and the broadcasters, but the NFL does a funny thing.

Guys.

We go the whole off season and we're just so hungry and so starving and so famous. Imagine the hungriest you've ever been, and you just want football so bad and I'm so hungry I'm gonna pass out. And then we sit you down at a vegan restaurant. I'm like, God, all right, well, I mean it's it's salty and it's well made and everything, but can I get some chicken.

And ribs out of here please?

And you have to eat vegan food and you're not a vegan for weeks.

And then you know what happens.

Next Thursday, they ring that dinner bell and they say open bar, and there's ribs and steaks and martinis and margarita's and it's just stuffed your face with.

Everything you really want.

But it's tough for those few weeks when I'm eating like the tofurkey and the faux meat and the new meat and the Wonder Burger and all that. That's what we've been eating, and we're getting it down and it has nutritive value and it's very important.

But it's almost chicken and ribs time.

Guys, say goodbye to the vegan restaurant.

I love you, Vegan Twitter, I just ain't party. I love it and let's eat folks.

Wow, Hey, Kyle, you went beyond beef on net one.

Bro.

That was amazing. Bro, that was amazing.

I mean, it looks like meat, It bleeds like me.

It's not freeze. We need it.

We need meat light to

Bring us real football.
