Good Morning Football.
Hey, everybody, welcome inside. This is, of course Good Morning Football. We are presented by Old.
Trapper Beef Jerky live here in Los Angeles.
Friends are at the table. I'm Davy her at all akbar baja biam Milla, Peter Schrager, Kyle Brandt.
Feels great to say Old Trapper behind.
This is it. It's the Monday of the regular season, off bar. How's how's it feel for you? It's been a month now on the show.
You know what it feels good.
I haven't been in the weight room that that really feels like football. Ago you said that's gonna go.
That's gonna go fast. Yeah, you gotta go to bed. You gotta be on your phone.
Even if you're getting a weight room anyway, you're gonna get fifty times.
That's an edition.
That's what tradition.
I love it.
The tradition is that this week now becomes prediction week. Do know if anyone else's palms are sweating just yet? But I have note cards that have shredded in my house. I'm trying to go through playoff teams. But today Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year and coach of the.
Three different category.
It's prediction Week aka the p SS Invitation. Peter's become a celebrity picker in the sense that his pickers are his picks are so good and so right, and.
He nails it every single year. Peter, you radyed rock and Roll.
So I was thinking of doing a YouTube or rumble special of my Super Bowl pick, but it's going to be done right here on Good Morning Football Thursday morning.
What do the other categories leading up? You're not going to try to monetize it. I was going to love to there.
Were no takers.
Threads all right, it's.
Not for the leading. But we are three days away from kickoffs Sociree Day.
This is a rematch of last season's AFC Championship game between the Chiefs and the Ravens. Lamar Jackson is not viewing this game any differently, though why would.
He any game I play.
I feel like it's a revenge game, So I'm not just gonna look at this game like a revenge game anybody we play, no matter if we beat him or lost to him prior previous years.
I just want to win.
Of course, he just wants to win.
All right, here's the assignment at hand, Peter Schregger. You're up, first person, player, coach, or owner that you feel before we play any regular season football has the most riding on this season.
I like it starting out hot here on Labor Day Week one. We are here, folks in Los Angeles, and I'm on the West coast, and it's nothing here in LA. Although there are two very interesting teams, it's not one of the teams that was practicing out here in LA all summer that there were three other teams that were here. I am looking up the coast and I am looking at that coach who's kind of grown out the hair, just like, oh yeah, yeah, I'm looking at my got Kyle Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan, the Shanman. This is the year that Kyle Shanahan maybe gets that ring.
We know the history.
They go to the NFC Championship Game or they go to the Super Bowl just about every season, and last year it felt like it was the magical season. Kyle and the Niners came roaring through the playoffs, they beat the Lions in the NFC Championship Game.
They're playing the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
They get to overtime and they decide to receive a curious decision. Of course, they'd pingpong the ball back and forth. And it was another Super Bowl that Kyle Shanahan came up short. In this offseason, there was contract issues at Brandon Ayuk that seems to be settled. There's a contract issue with Trem Williams that's still lingering.
Some leaders.
Eric Armstead walks out, goes elsewhere. Some other players have left, some others have been joining. But I look at this past weekend and Kyle Shanahan.
They had a little party.
With Brandon Nyuk with Deebo Saman with Rick Ross.
The boss, and this is what Kyle wore to the party.
Word wow, Now.
I've been texting with sources. It was actually a great Gatsby theme.
Is your wearing number seventeen?
That might have been Rick Ross the ball. It was a great Gatsby theme.
Got Fitzgerald and I.
You know, a guy who's got so much riding on this season as the head coach of the forty nine ers, with contracts that everyone wants it.
Party's got to get paid at some point. We've got to pay. Tell you no, whu funga has to get paid.
All we got Kyle's coming in there and he's grown the hair out. He bookended his summer with the McCaffrey wedding where he was wilding out and this amazing great gats This is me saying, hey, I've got the swag.
My team's got the swag.
You guys could put.
Holes on us all summer long.
We good.
In fact, we Gucci he Gucci.
I think Kyle Shanahan's got the most riding on this season. I also feel like he has no doubts that his team is ready to go. I'm gonna say the head coach of the defending NFC champions, Kyle Shanahan's got the most on his shoulders. And he's got some hair rocking on it too. He's growing out that hair and I respect it. And he was rocking it like Gatsby on Friday Night.
Wow.
You know it doesn't end well for Gatsby, right.
Little egg west Meyer wolf Sheim is this very cinis a character like it does not a great ending, though it gets I'm an insie. When there's the motif of the green light and everything, I don't know, we'll see where that goes.
Yeah, yeah, Peter, you hang out with the Rick Ross.
I've met Rick Ross once before and he looked at me and was like a big fan of the show. So that is what man super Bowl many years ago, right, We had him on one year and he was incredible. Of course, he's probably happy his Miami Hurricanes kicked the crap out of the Florida.
They're back names go, yes.
Don't forget about San Diego State.
But I'll tell you who has the most writing on this season. For me, it has to be Deshaun Watson. I mean, this is a pivotal year for Deshaun Watson. Two hundred and thirty million dollars guaranteed. And I know the Cleveland Browns are probably constantly asking themselves a question, why, just that one simple question why? Well, I mean we we know what he did in twenty twenty really kind of had everybody up in like, oh wow, Like Deshaun Watson is a top tier quarterback. He got paid off of that one season that he really you know, he built up to that season and showed everybody what he was capable of. But going into this year, after last year, they were so good last year, he saw the momentum that they had, and of course he gets hurt.
He comes.
I mean, you know he gets hurt. Now he's back for this season, and you start to ask yourself, is he the guy that can take the Cleveland Browns over the hump. I've been calling this this division the UFC North. I truly believe in Deshaun Watson. I like to give guys who are the underdog an opportunity to rise up. Deshaun Watson, this is your opportunity to rise up. Everything is riding on this season. And if not, do I say it good?
I don't know what it is.
How many years are gonna be? Yeah, it's ain't that crazy.
You might get shipped off. Yeah, might get shipped off. So it's Deshaun Watson for me.
Two million dollar capet this year, seventy two million dollars next year. It's a seventy two million dollar underdog.
So we'll see.
I mean, it's all guaranteed, it's all nuts. And like I said, for a year, like we haven't seen him play in four years. I'm just trying to think about, like what literary work like Jay Gatsby with Deshaun Watson. I have no idea forrenheight Fahrenheit four fifty one.
Bradberry Ray Bradberry went for one.
On that one. I went for it. This weekend.
I had a crazy, crazy weekend I'm going to get into but somehow it had to do with the Chicago Bears.
I went to I was in Chicago, YESTERDNY.
I woke up in Chicago yesterday morning on my mother's couch. I flew from Chicago to New York with my two kids, dropped him off it threw int LaGuardia, then went to JFK and flew to LA Chicago to New York to LA.
It's asinine. I did it in one day.
But in the meantime, let me show you this picture I was doing Saturday night, my answer to this question of the Chicago Bears.
There's me and my friends at Wrigley. I'm on the far left and the.
Mister big Shirt and the Bears hats, Dark Matter World Tour, Pearl Jam Peter.
That is the very opposite of the Rick Ross picture.
I think you just showed and in all the optics literally that's me on.
The far left.
So I met, I met Wrigley, I go see pro Jam Saturday night. Right after this picture is taken, all right, there's a guy who's nearby who's kind of just He's standing there and I feel like maybe he wanted to come talk to them.
Yeah, so I go, Okay, no problem, and I go up to him, like, do I know you from college or something like that. This guy walks up to me, he goes, oh, I love the show. I'm glad to hear. That's Shane Waldron. That's the Bears offensive coordinator.
He was there standing around outside the Wrigley sign taking the picture, and I'm like, dude, I'm rooting for this is so cool.
I love the show where we had a couple of days off.
I'm like, are you guys ready, Yeah, we're right, and I'm like, let's go.
Ok.
This guy is pushing all the buttons. He's right outside Wrigley Field. He's going to the game. Get inside the concert if you like program. Heye, Proson doesn't matter. Eddie Ved, the lead singer, is born born in Evanston's Chicago guy.
This is what happens in the middle of the concert.
He's up on stages wearing a Walter Payton jersey and he stops the entire show in front of Wrigley to do an entire.
Homage to Walter Page. That's in the bottom right corner.
That's Eddie Vedder and the Peyton, and there's a massive mural in Wrigley of Walter Payton. I have to tell you there's a dedicated fan base for thirty years. The loudest they cheered the whole night as they put up the Peyton picture.
They yo ledbetter even from here, even for none of that. Peyton was the one JAREDT.
Peyton came up.
He took a picture with Eddie honored. I mean he stole Eddie's wine bottle.
My point is this, there's all these fans who've been waiting years for this concert and paid all this money to be there. When they put up the Peyton picture, they went bat bleep insane. The vibe in Chicago right now is so intense, so heavy, so electric, And it's.
About Caleb, It's about all the new players. Everything we've talked about.
We've been talking about it from LA we've been talking about it from New York. To be there in the epicenter of Chicago. A matter of days before the opener, there was so much juice. And I've said this before. It is not a Cubstown or White Sox town. It's not a Bullstown or Blacks. It is a Bears town. In the middle of the Jordan dynasty. The Dave Wanstead Bears won one playoff game against the Vikings, and you would have thought they're gonna have a parade if they win the Old If they went Week two against the Texans, boom.
The vibe is so big, so enjoy rapturous. They haven't won a game yet. Incredible night at Wrigley. It's going to be a great night. Soldier Field.
Caleb Williams has the opportunity to be one of those iconic names, because I feel like with Chicago it seems like there's always the throwback names.
Sure it's I know, modern, but the.
Hard Knocks opening montage.
You know, I didn't like the Monsters of the Midwin like it.
If Bill Murray in nineteen eighty is talking about the refrigerator.
Pairta, it's a great clip.
It was a great clip forty years ago.
They're obsessed with their past because they haven't done enough in the present to replace it.
It's got to start.
So you take the group photo.
Then you see Shane Waldron didn't want to take us oflf WIO was.
Shane Walder not my style? Now my style? Do you get his number? A leads no, No, I don't do any of that garbage.
That's not me. How you know, man, I enjoy yourself. I'm not there in a network, you know. Plus I was halfway in the bag. I don't It's.
Well, I represented on the clock.
You're ready, Yeah, I'm ready.
Yeah, that was it. It was cool.
Good assume I got nothing when it comes to sources or party picks, or musical artists or concerts I went to. I was putting kids to bed, I was getting kids up this weekend.
That's it.
All I was thinking about was who has the most riding on twenty twenty four? Because it's just occupying my brain.
Let's do a little exercise around the table.
Just name a team in the last thirty years that you feel like they always kind of have it.
They fight, they.
Battle, they always put a tough team that wins a handful of games. They're kind of a guaranteed pick.
I'd say the Cowboys in any year.
Okay, corast Co, I'd say the Eagles are always read it was pretty good.
Eagles, the Steelers, the Packers, Steelers, they always matter.
The Lions did not have that juice in the last thirty years. The Lions went through some woeful times. Well, now we're in a very warm and fuzzy time with the Detroit Lions. That doesn't mean that they should just rest on their proverbial laurels from twenty twenty three. I think in twenty four because Brad Holmes just said this over the weekend in a press conference.
He's like, we're looking at a super Bowl for the Lions.
Now.
I did not take this lightly because frankly, on August thirty verse everyone says they're looking for a super Bowl, which I respect and I app should, But for Brad Holmes to say it in the offseason I think means something different for Detroit, which is this was not just some one off magical season where I have this kind of wonky head coach who does updowns in August and everyone obsesses over it, and then in January they played in this magical run and they made it to an NFC title game, And then do you guys remember that twenty twenty three line season, No, Brad Holmes is trying to build something here, and by him saying we have a dedicated effort to get back to the Super Bowl, I believe him. I trust him, and frankly, I think it puts the Lions on a pathway of the having the most riding on them this season, because this cannot just be.
A flash in the pan.
If you want to be an executive who put a team together that became in the.
Next thirty years.
Man, do you remember from twenty twenty three until twenty sixty three the Lions.
Were so good every year? I know it would be fun to build them up like that.
I did too, Lion. I'm still stuck in like freshman English at high school. I'm trying to think. I think it's the Lion, the Witch, and the wardrobe Seaton we Go. Does the wardrobe include a Super Bowl ring? That's what I would.
Not to bring a Terabithia.
I love.
The dark one wrinkling time.
This is separate piece prap sheets.
Please parallel every little bit of news you have for us to a book that you had on the summer reading list in high school.
It's a personal challenge.
Oh God, summer reading.
Count me out on that word.
Nothing more stressful for me than getting to like August twentieth, and you're like.
Did I start my readings?
Yeah, for that anyway, Let's get to what I'm here to talk about, which is the news that we are waiting on for week one, and week one generally does serve as a artificial or reel depending on your situation deadline for contractual matters. We saw with Brandon Aiyuk last week at the San Francisco forty nine.
There's still some several big ticket items that we are waiting on.
We will start you guys mentioned the Cowboys start with Dak Prescott, their quarterback, who is in talks with the team about a potential contract extension that would keep him any Cowboys uniform, maybe for the balance of his career.
The two sides have been working.
There have been active conversations for about the last month or so, and the stakes are as high as they get. If Prescott does a deal, which of course would make him the highest.
Paid quarterback player everything.
In NFL history, then he will remain with the Cowboys this season and beyond.
He does not do a deal, then the likelihood is he will be a free agent. The highest profile free agent we have ever seen.
He has all the leverage you could possibly get, and the clock is ticking somewhat similar for Jamar Chase and the Cincinnati Bengals, but he is actually under contract for two more years. He has been holding in a training camp, then he practiced some, then he was holding in again. Meanwhile, the team has gone back and forth about sort of his readiness for Week one. The two sides are in talks for a deal that would make him among the highest paid receivers in the NFL, or the highest paid receiver higher than Justin Jefferson. There have been some talks, there has been some progress, but there's for sure nothing done yet.
So we will see what his status is.
And then for the New York Jets, they are also waiting, still waiting on pass rusher Hassan Reddick. Remember they traded for him like April first, long time ago.
I remember I was on the peloton.
It is a very weird situation. He traded him with no deal in place. He still has not shown up. The team is willing to look at his contracts, but only if he shows up. You gotta think, guys, if he shows up in the next couple of days, potentially he would play week one. If he does not show up, he continues to collect what is now.
More than two million dollars worth of fine. This standoff will continue.
Man Son Reddick or not.
At least we know that rap sheet's getting on the peloton in the off seasons. It's good to know as news breaks, getting your car vascular health in Ian.
Thank you so much.
On Wednesday, September fourth, I don't know if you guys know this.
Is happening for us this week.
What's up?
You got plans Wednesday night?
Actually?

You ready, Circle, Kyle.
I'm excited, way out my shirt on this time.
Make Peter okay, It's Prediction Week on GMFB. That guy kind of come up in our next segment, I would think so it's Caleb Williams and Shane Daniels.
Offensive Rookie of the Year.
There's always the obvious names who will go out on a branch. We reveal our answers to this next it's the kickoff to Prediction Week.
Plus, Peter, do you have a history lesson to teach us?
How about them Jets fans.
There's a lot of fan bases that have just been aching and longing. We're gonna go through some of them and why this year is a reason for optimism.
Where's that guy from Peter, That guys from Parsipony.
I knew it, Partipity, New Jersey, This team my whole life.
That's Rick from Parsipany and he.
Is a angry Jets. I'm done.
I'm done with this team.
I can't see it anymore.
It's rainy, it looks it looks like a lovely day.
Good morning, what's up everybody? Welcome back to Good Morning Football. Live in LA.
The four of us are here at the table, and there's a buzz in the US. It is prediction week. You at home have been watching us for the last several weeks talk about all these players and say possibly and maybe and could be and potentially an argument that you can make an argument that maybe this player might be possibly maybe the best player.
Put your name on it. Put your name on, your name on him on Now, that's.
Where we put our names on.
Different categories are gonna be spread out throughout the name got Offensive Rookie of the Year, You've got Defensive Rookie the Year.
We've got Coach of the Year. We've got m v P. We've got all sorts of things.
Leading all the way up to our MVP.
And to our Super Bowl pick.
We'll forget all fourteen playoff teams. We will pick every single one.
Every single playoff team has to have your name on it. Wow, you guys will making me nervous.
It is not the whole I've been trying to tell you.
There are stakes.
WHOA So let's kick things off on this Labor Day, Monday, Week one with Offensive Rookie of the Year. I'm gonna go first, take a walk. Offensive Rookie of the Year. A lot of pressure right here, because you put your name on this thing you're pulling from now. Look, the first fifteen players of the NFL Draft in twenty twenty four were offensive players, meaning there are so many different choices. You can have wide receiver, you can have lights, you can have no lights. Whatever you want, light on it, Peter working out the kinks. My pick for offensive rookie of the Year is maybe the other guy, the guy that doesn't have hard knocks cameras following him around all summer, the guy that hasn't made headlines with razzle dazzle across the body passes, and the guy that might be laying in the weeds a little bit as we kick off the season. My pick for offensive Rookie of the Year is last year's Heisman Trophy winner, last year's AP Player of the Year, and the hope.
And the pride of the Washington Commanders.
I am going with Jaden Daniels.
Jenden Daniels.
Last year, you might know what he does with his feet, he did have over two hundred yards rushing in a.
Game in college.
But what he does with his arm is what I'm into This is the highest single season rated quarterback ever in the history of college football.
What he did last year for LSU, a nine to three team that.
Did not win all the award did not do and yet he as an individual did win the Heisman, win the AP Offensive Player of the Year, and from what I'm told, is not only going to start Week one for Washington, he is also going to be one of the team leaders.
Jayden was at the LSU game last night in Las Vegas. He will be back to.
Make sure his commanders have a far better season than what they were. New head coach, new general manager, new veteran players all around him.
My offensive rookie of the Year is Jaden Dan.
Wait to start us off, all right, I gotta follow that.
Let's go good luck.
Let's go wow. I put a lot of thought into this. I had to go deep for this one. Let's talk about it. The offensive rookie of the Year for twenty twenty four. It's not going to be what everyone's thinking about. It's not the person that everybody's been hyping up.
This position has.
Only been won four times in the last ten years, but I'm here to tell you that this position is going for a repeat. There's no political agenda with this pick in.
DC, right with you? That's good Dayden.
Daniel kay quarterback for the Washington Commanders. I second that, I too endorse this pick. He might not have the same hype and the talent around him like Caleb Williams. We know what Caleb has around him. He's got Keenan and he's got a Roma Dunes, He's got all these guys. But that's actually a good thing because every touchdown, every big play will be amplified.
Now.
He picked up in the preseason where he left off in college, showcasing his exceptional accuracy.
Looking at that, and his leg Failand as well.
So he's got a combination going on to me that is going to allow him to be successful.
And I'm telling you right.
Now, I'm a fan and I am his public defendant. JD is the real deal and he is going to prove it this year. So I rest my case on mister Jaden Daniel.
All right, good, you feel good about that?
I feel good.
I feel good.
I feel good.
Okay, A lot of JD is trying to get to Washington, right, there's a lot of that happening.
You picked a bile I didn't need it right before I went I'm sorry, sorry.
Jamib reference the jad reference this young man. Are we going to go this long and not have Alae Williams up on the screen.
We're going to go even longer because I don't pick kalaly Oh, I did not pick Jaden Daniels.
Did I go non quarterback?
No?
I did not.
But there were so many quarterbacks in this year's draft class.
It was like a bouquet of.
Flowers which one is going to smell the sweetest in twenty twenty four. The tricky part about Offensive Rookie of the Year is they don't have to have twelve thirteen wins. Frankly, these guys don't even need to make it to the playoffs because if you're getting drafted early, you're playing for a team that's building something.
But you got to put the stats out there. And this one.
Specific number that I picked for my Offensive Rookie of the Year is what stood out to me. It was the fact that sixty one times in college we saw this quarterback trot out onto an NCAA football field and play quarterback for two different universities, first for Auburn, where he was a homegrown son in Alabama. When mister bow Nix started playing college football at all, bow Nicks is my offensive rookie of the year before he went on to Oregon.
Now, this guy.
Got crushed when he was at Auburn at times for his play, for his style. You can't I can't believe you're still trying to do this.
This isn't working for you.
Went to Oregon, change parts of his game, became the most accurate quarterback in college football history and his time at Oregon. Then Sean Payton says, I get to have who I want. I'm for the Broncos would have left the bag on the table for whoever Peyton wanted to bring in at quarterback. He went with this guy. He went with Bo Nicks. And this was not me just googling Bo Nicks. Man, where is this guy from? Where did he go to college? I wonder how this is gonna pan out. Bon Nis freshman year at Auburn plays Alabama in the Iron Bowl. Iron Bowl is the best college football rivalry in the game. Auburn's unranked, they take on Alabama. I have a photo from the first time I ever met Bo Nicks on the field with thousands of Auburn fans rushing the field because as a freshman with the program on his shoulders, Auburn beats Alabama. Amongst the sea of players, there's cops around us.
People are jumping over the hedges at Auburn. Bring up the photo.
There we are from the November of twenty nineteen CBS SEC Game of the Week, Jamie bone Nicks, Derek Brown, Derek Brown and the rest of a billion Auburn fans celebrating the fact that they just took down Alabama. This guy's been doing it ever since his freshman year. I saw it happen in November, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I saw it and we'll see it again for the Denver broncause bone.
Nicks, thank you.
All right, Kyle, you're up, all right? You're nervous? No lights lights on? Man? The light?
Yeah?
Is this thing on?
We rolling?
It's Kayleb Williams. What do we do? What are we doing? It's Caleb Williams. Guys, go here's my takeaway. Okay, I'm gonna take away.
Guys.
I love you, and I think a couple of you guys said, you know, like I put a lot of thought into this.
It shows you put a lot too much thoughts. You don't need that much thought.
This is not Oppenheimer. We're just picking offensive rookie of the year. Every single team in the NFL could have taken Jayden. None of them did until after Caleb. Five guys were picked before bow Nicks. They're great players, they're very promising. Sometimes, guys, the best solution is just the simplest one. I know we're all trying to trend and go viral and have the craziest selection. Wow, can you believe when they picked? Sometimes you just hit it right on this. It's okay to hit a single. You tell the kids play little league. You don't have to hit a five hundred foot home run. Just hit a single. Get the run in. It's Caleb. We all know it's Caleb. Caleb, Caleb Caleb. I'm actually annoyed that I had to talk this much about it. It's caleber Is from usc Tago Bart.
That's it.
Well, as the saying goes to the victor goes the spoils, the Super Bowl winner gets the open the season with the first game on time time television, and it's becoming a yearly tradition. The Chiefs are in this game as the winner of the last two Super Bowls. But Patrick Mahomes doesn't take playing in this kickoff game for granted and hopees there's many more to come.
You start appreciating playing in these games. I mean, you never know if you're gonna win another Super Bowl. I mean, that's your hope. You don't know if you're gonna be that opening night game. I mean, so I remember my first year, I didn't play, but we go to the Patriots and play in that game, and I remember how specially that moment was for me, even though I didn't step on the football field. And so I just try to appreciate these moments because you never know if there's gonna be your last one.
But the hope it isn't.
Well.
More news from the Chiefs as head coach Andy Reid announcing wide receiver marque's Probablywood Brown will not play there against the Ravens on Thursday night. Brown recovering from a dislocated shoulder he suffered the very first play of the preseason. The Reid adding Brown is making incredible progress. So there was a scary moment for forty nine years Wide receiver Ricky piersoalt he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest during an attempted robbery on Saturday. The good news he was released from the hospital on Sunday after being listed in serious but stable condition. Peerzel's mother, Aaron saying Sunday on social media a post that the bullet entered through her son's chest exited out his back, missing vital organs. So all of us here at GMFB wishing Ricky a speedy recovery.
Well.
Coming up next, which team's fan base will experience unfamiliar feelings in twenty twenty four?
While Peter is taking as inside.
The longest playoffs droughts and how this could change for a few franchises, And stay here with us, I.
Like good mon is football?
What's off everybody? As we kick off yet another NFL season?
This week? Is actually a time of hope, Yeah, a time of optimism.
Yeah, at a time where I met with confetti, Lombardi trophies and parades down Main Street. But only one NFL team, only one NFL fan base will hoist of Lombardi, and only two will end up facing each other in New Orleans, and only fourteen will actually even experience playoff football?
So which teams.
Fans have been aching the most.
Which ones deserve.
What the Lions faithful got a year ago? Time for a history lesson month, take a walk, care.
Guys.
The Chicago Bears have not won a playoff game in thirteen years. In that time, they have had sixteen different starting quarterbacks.
They have traded up into the top of multiple.
Drafts to get their franchise quarterback.
And those guys Mitchell Trubisky justin fields they weren't it. It'sert Caleb Williams and a bunch of positive vibes.
Suddenly we've got this. Did you look at this guy?
It's a great look.
Thirteen years is a long time, though, you know.
The last time the Bears won a playoff game was the twenty ten season, and it was a.
Thirty five to twenty.
Four win over the Seahawks in the Divisional round.
Matt fort A had one hundred and thirty four yards from scrimmage and the d that was led by Erlacker and Briggs and Tillman.
They held Marshawn Lynch to just four yards on the ground.
It was a glorious day at Soldier Field.
A week later, Jay Cutler would suffer an unfortunate injury, and Aaron Rodgers would lead the Packers past Chicago for a spot in the Super Bowl. Yes, the hated Packers would hoist the Lombardi Trophy later that month.
Thirteen years.
Speaking of thirteen years, it's been thirteen years since the Jets had.
A playoff win.
Two look at this logo, and for Jets fans it's been even more painful. At least, Chicago sniffed January football. The Jets have not been to the playoffs since twenty ten, the longer strout in the NFL.
The last time this was great though New York made the postseason.
It was twenty ten and it was wrecked.
Yeah, and that team had names like Mark Sanchez and Ladanian, Tomlinson and Brayln Edwards on it, guys.
The last time the Jets.
Won a playoff game was the famous Bart Scott Cutwait game so.
Up in New England.
They sacked Tom Brady five times and Sean Ellis was the most dominant player on the field. That game was thirteen years ago, and Jets fans will tell you that they feeled those thirteen years every single day.
I know, But do you think that's bad? How about Commanders fans.
Washington fans haven't won a playoff.
Game in eighteen years.
Two thousand and five was the last time the Washington fan base got to experience a playoff win. In the time that's passed, the Washington franchise has changed head coaches five different times. They've had twenty different starting quarterbacks.
They've all so I don't know, change their team name twice. They've also changed ownership.
They've also seen Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, Matt Laflora, Rahee Morris, Mike McDaniel come and go.
That last playoff win, when.
Was that two thousand and five, and it was a seventeen to ten win over the Buccaneers.
Look at the footage of the SD is that Cadillac. That is Cadillac Williams. That's also Sean Taylor, that is also LeVar Arrington.
Is a defense that absolutely stimied the Buccaneers. The starting quarterback for the Washington football team that.
Day was Mark Brunell. On the other side, it was Chris Simms. This is forgotten. This is a forgotten day Washington.
It's been that long, and yet eighteen years that's nothing compared to what Raiders fans have been for a bar and it's been twenty one years since the Raiders have won a playoff game. Bill Callahan was the head coach and Rich was the quarterback.
The Raiders would go on to beat the Titans in this game, and they would play in the Super Bowl a week later.
But think about that, twenty one different seasons. The Raiders franchise has had thirteen different.
Head coaches, including like Lane Kiffin.
They've had seven double digit loss seasons in that span. They've moved stadiums, they've moved cities, and they've had one quarterback after another be the next, great hope.
The last time.
They won a playoff game, they won multiple games that season on.
A baseball field.
Oh yeah, I love this.
Twenty one long years for the Silver and Black, and yet no fan base has waited longer between playoff wins.
Then who is it? The Miami Dolphins.
The Miami Dolphins haven't won a playoff game in twenty three years.
Twenty three years.
Let's go back to that game.
Miami came back from being down fourteen nothing to Peyton Manning and the Colts in the AFC Wild Card Round. J Fiedler hit Jen Weaver on a nine yard pass to.
Send the game into overtime.
Peyton couldn't get it done against a really good Dolphins defense, and yet it was Lamar.
Smith who did the rest. Lamar Smith takes a handoff and goes the way for a touchdown seventeen yards as Dave Wanstadt's Dolphins won the game on a dramatic Smith scamper to win the game in sudden death.
It has been.
Twenty three years. Finns fans who were born then.
Can legally drink, they can gamble, they can whatever they want to do because they're twenty three years old. Now look at that sideline with Dave Wanstatt and Zach Thomas and all of.
These folks, Tayson Taylor.
Twenty three years between playoff wins for the Miami Dolphins.
They haven't won one.
You think about all these feudal franchises over the last several decades, you don't think of this logo. Now, there are countless fan bases that are waiting for this year to be their year.
Their moment.
I would argue that no group of people has the title of longing for that feeling more than our fans in Miami and around the country who root for the Dolphins. So I asked, can Tyreek, can Tua? Can Mike McDaniel do what amonra and Dan Campbell and Jared Goff did for their long.
Suffering franchise this season?
All I can say is, we shall see Benza twenty three years.
That surprised you, Yeah, it did surprise me. You know, I didn't realize how much time had gone by. I mean, especially when you said the Raiders are I'm just thinking, I'm like, Yo, that's nuts. Mean, in your head you think, oh, it was logo maybe eight nine.
It creeps up there and then you go twenty like it's like your kid's grown up three years old.
Yeah, I know, right a Dolphins fan. I just think there's a new crop.
I feel like for decades wanted like Browns lines. Yeah, that'd be like the Jay Leno monologue joke. Oh the Lions locked again, Like the lines are good now. The Browns were really cool last year. They got things going on, Like this is the new crop of Like it's not that they haven't been, they've been, but they haven't won. Once they've gotten there, Peter, we showed some old players in that thing, like players who have been retired for twenty years, and some of those times that's rough.
And there's like a specific subset two of heartbreak when it comes to like teams have made it to super Bowls, sometimes many years in a row and lost them. Then there's the teams that can't even get a playoff win.
I think that's worse.
We talked about, you know, like the Bill's super Bowl history is so infamous, but now they're in the playoffs. Every year they often win a playoff game. These teams can't even get that wild card win.
We want a playoff game.
Thirteen years for the Bears, thirteen years for the Jets, eighteen years for the Commanders, and we're talking twenty one years for the Raiders, but twenty three years for the Miami.
And the irony Peter I said this on Friday Show.
Actually the irony is that this is coming from a franchise that has that one perfect season and it's just straight folks, And.
I said it.
I asked the guys, is it better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all? So the Dolphins fans, even the ones that have been going for sixty years, like and we even know what it tastes like to be perfect, and we can't even fish.
Just not this generation. This generation.
There's some Bedrock franchise. That's a shame.
There's some big nails.
Aren't some co expansion team team they've been around, they should get thereac together.
Come on, guys, you.
Have one that you think will break the curse. First, let's save it for the rest of the week. Prediculously.
I think week one is always a it's a it's a guessing game in some respect. I think that's why you really got to focus on what you do and knowing your rules inside now, knowing the details of what you're trying to get done, and that's what we've emphasized to our guys. And then certainly it comes down to adjustments. You're gonna have to adjust week one and some at some point within the game, you're going to have to adjust, and whoever can typically do that better will probably win the game.
Time for wake Up Call presented by Verizon. These two teams that are playing on Friday wake up in Brazil to kick off their NFL season. It's Lafleur and the Packers at Sirianni and the Eagles. We know that Week one, as Kyle would say, is sometimes a liar prolific.
I'll get into it.
This week, but the Week one matchup in this first NFL game played in South America, of course, there are some unknowns. As coach just said, can't quite have everything figured out about these teams. Peter biggest unknown in this Eagles Packers matchup.
Might not be as sexy as talking about different positions. But I look at that center spot for Philadelphia. For the last two decades, basically it has been a guy named Jason Kelcey, and he has been the leader of the offense, calling out a lot of protections, kind of setting the tone.
He retired.
Kelsey's now on ESPN and is going to be doing a podcast for six trillion dollars with his brother.
Yeah, insert Cam Jurgens, who is going to be the new starting set.
Jurgons is no rookie.
He's played plenty of games and it's great experience.
He was an early draft pick a couple of years ago.
He's been mentored and tutored by Kelsey, But that safety valve is gone.
Whereally Jurgons pod?
Does he have the pod yet?
Jurgens and his brother are doing a podcast. They just sold it to one jury. Congratulations, boy SAIDs it.
iHeartRadio is not hundred million dollars.
That's it.
That's right. I don't move it on though.
I mean, he was the face of that offense and he kind of set the tone. I really think it's going to be interesting to see if they still dead bite, and I know they're probably watching me like this is a Jeff stotlind offensive line with Lane Johnson still in my a lot of like chill, no, no, no, Kelsey is an important player in that team.
He's no longer there. I'm curiously how it looks.
He'd a very busy week for US.
Wednesday night, we're going to be on NBC for the Kickoff special show. I actually talked to Nick Sirianni for that show. The interview in Cam Jurgens was one of the questions. The other question that I was a little nervous about asking him was so, how's it going with your quarterback? Because there is one. It's one thing to say, hey, the head coach doesn't have it. It's another thing to say, hey your quarterback doesn't have it.
It is a whole other can of worms. If a media entity in Philadelphia is saying.
Coach and quarterback. I'm not sure about this relationship. These two guys are to answer questions about this all off season. They say it's good. They're they're banging around on golf carts all the time in the off season.
It all looks all well and good. But I'm really curious.
About what this looks like in Brazil talking to each other on the sideline and the sideline body language game.
I love off bar and this stuff. I love like complicated travel logistics. I love that stuff. Here's the deo folks the Eagles on Eagles dot Com. The game is Friday evening. They're leaving Wednesday morning. It's a nine and a half hour flight. I love this stuff. In June, in June, they sent equipment to Brazil on a boat, like a barge. There's a real thing. It's so complicated. They have to get visas, they get passports. I want to see all that stuff shakes out. I love all kinds of snap foods for travel. We'll see South American football is real.
First time.
First time. This ain't London, Peter.
It's a glowout of the barge headed to Brazil.
Stuff on a barge like shoulder paths. I hope they show up Cam Jurgens, Southbeast.
Phillicum on our show. It's stream ape, it's Prediction Week.
It's a describe on the jerking spot.
