Welcome to NFL Daily, where we've all got some big rings on. I'm here in the Chris Westling podcast studio with my friends Bridget Condon and Maurice Jones Drew to talk about Monday Night Football.
And I misspoke.
Maurice is not wearing the Rams super Bowl ring that he had proudly on his finger throughout our telecast and Channel five throughout the night.
But it must be in your bag somewhere.
Yeah, it's somewhere around here.
I can't tell you where I hid all my stuff, but you know, the ring was because I was the king of the game Picks on Monday. Even though you didn't show up half the time, because you were doing this show, which I applaud you for, you still had.
Picks and you came in second.
You did well.
Do you actually keep it in the network?
You ring?
Possibly?
I mean maybe we shouldn't even be talking about this on the air. And yes, and you've got some beautiful rings. Congratulations to Bridget, you know, since you've been on the show, since you announced that you're gonna have a baby. Oh yes, and in congratulations on finishing the season of Monday Night Football. Are overseas listeners who do listen to NFL daily have caught you guys also on Channel five.
There is nothing like Monday Night Football and Channel five. It is so much fun. And every fan should be a fan across the pond because they're not like the ones.
Dan, you gotta be dedicated.
You gotta be up until four in the morning, and if you were up late tonight, you got rewarded with a banger. Lions forty forty nine ers thirty four. Let's head to Santa Clara.
Play clock down to one. Golf wants to snap, hands it to Gibbs outside right.
He's got the first down of more twenty five twenty fifteen ten five, So touchdown Totroy Lions Tamior Gibbs on third down and two breaks it for thirty and the Lions have a two score lead on the board. It is forty to twenty eight.
Ooh finishes forty to thirty four. As I mentioned, that's Dan Miller on.
W x y T.
Jamir Gibbs is enjoying being the lead dog. He ends up with one hundred and seventeen yards on the ground on eighteen carries forty six yards through the air on four catches, that's two straight games just like that. And if you thought the Lions were gonna be a little careful and maybe spread the ball around and not play their great guy, No, they had to come back in this game. They were down at one point, what twenty one to thirteen.
They come back and.
Gibbs Maurice to me, it's kind of having his little star turn here without David Montgomery and putting himself right there in the top five, running back to the entire.
He's had this in spurts when Montgomery's Montgomery's been out. But I'll say this, we knew this coming out of the draft, that Jamir Games had the speed, the explosivest ability to catch ball out of the backfield.
I love how Detroit is using him.
They don't really run him as a lead guy, like he gets the most touches, but they spell him a ton through of course the game because they want to keep him explosive. That's a smart way to do it. They utilize Jefferson, the Nighted Kid out of Oregon State. They utilized Craig Reynolds as well. They put a lot of guys in different spots to keep him fresh and allow him to go out and make some plays. But this is the biggest thing about Detroit and if you want to really talk about what they are, it's the mantra of bite the kneecap off because if you look at the way that team was getting pretty much man handled defensively up and down the field by the Niners.
The second half, they change.
They made second half adjustment defensively and offensively, and that was the end of the game.
Dam Daniel.
You kept mentioning how they're not going to get off their man coverage.
That's what they do.
But it just got tighter in the second half, and then Curry started the blitz.
In the second half, they started sitting in pressure at Rock Party, they started to blitz. They started to play single heighth safeties, Kirby Joseph started to sit on more routes.
Hey, there you go.
You pointed out that they called basically the same play for that party through the two interceptions on to Joseph. They probably called that four to five times, and Joseph picked off two of them.
The last two. I think they probably called it maybe six to eight.
To be honest with you, start looking at it, I mean, that's their their their bread and Butter.
I'm setting Maurice up early here Bridget because.
I'm just and enjoying the conversation.
He's been threatening they he says, I've got ten we have a party.
We have to go.
Yeah, this show right Bridge, it's gonna come later because Bridget can't drink and I have to go and you know, mingle with the people. So I said I would come on the show, I would talk, but then I gotta go make.
But you don't.
Aren't you inspired by the Lions by how they give it there all when they don't even really need to. You put that microphone on, you gotta give it. I mean, this is the first time we even had you on NFL Daily.
I know I'm a little for.
To make a good impression.
I'm a little bit in frustrated about that I haven't been invited.
I is so like stingy with who he has on.
Don't you feel that way? Yeah, I's so weird. And for people who don't understand. In the network, where we're sitting right now, right across from us is glass windows. So every time you walk by, you see Greg in here with like his two or three people that he loves, and you're always like, hey, Greg, Hey, Greg, I have good perspective to and MJD's outside the glass, like, hey Greg, you ever watched and.
It's just like this stingy guy, And then.
I know better not to ask MJD On Daisy's not here in the days you are here, you're making for people.
Oh my goodness.
You know, I really feel like Greg came on the Monday Night Football show just to have us here.
Yeah, I guess feel guilty.
That's not true.
I wanted to wrap up the season and it was a lot of fun that show and it was convenient for you. No, well, my family is out of town. That doesn't hurt that, you know, I was missing the family time out of Monday and night. Yeah no, but like that is something I was giving up. When you're watching this game, Bridget, are you thinking, man, this Lion's team they're not gonna make it because even though they end up winning this game, they had to work so hard on offense and the defense is not looking good. And now next week they're playing for the one seed against Minnesota, and if they don't win that game, they're not going to get any rest and then they're gonna be on the road to start the playoffs, so a lot in front of them, like are you worried about them long term?
So I think my opinion changed from the first half to the second half. In the first completely worried, especially because they were playing from behind. The Niners have the ball first, they go down and score, and the Lions were always playing catch up. But it feels like, no matter what happens on defense, Ben Johnson is gonna go into his bag and make it happen. This offense is so good, and we talked about some of the offenses that you know could compete. Are the Lions the best offensive team in the NFL? You bring up the Eagles, the Ravens, I mean, even what Joe Burrow has done lately. But after seeing this game and the pieces you talk about David Montgomery, who's not there anymore, but Jamiir Hurt, Jimi or Gibbs, and you talk about Ahman, ros Saint Brown and Jamison Williams. They have so much strength on offense that they're gonna have to face a team who's going to have to punch for punch with them.
The way I think the answer, are they the best offense in the league?
Maurice I'm gonna say yes, because they're the only team in NFL history to have five games of forty point score and zero turnovers.
That's the that's kind of the recipe.
Did you get that to have from?
It was on Monday when we were all like talking it popped up, But I knew it was something close to that because if you got to think about it, the game they have with the Buffalo Bills, it would score for score, right, and they end up coming falling short there. They've played in some big games now to me, at the end of the day, if you're talking about the Detroit Lions, this is and it's crazy to say this, but the Rams trade away Jared Golf. He goes there, he becomes this guy, this god, i would say, in Detroit and literally the right his right arm is what's leading them. Yeah, they run the football, but he makes some tough throws. He's where he always on the right read. Even in the game in Houston when he threw five picks. He threw five picks in the game, they found a way to win it. And then they double back and he throws five touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills and they find a way to lose it right like they just they're just scoring points at such a high rate. Even if he's offered not they still have playmakers.
So my answer is yes, and Ravens by the numbers like analytics and dvo A actually would be number one because they got so many exploded some plays they don't turn the ball over. And then I think the Lions are right there. The Bills, I think with what they can do running the ball and Josh Allen are certainly there the Bengals, But to me, the consistency of what golf can do and what the Lions can do and that offensive line week to week is better. Like when he missed that fourth down throw, who is that to Laporta in the red zone and he missed it by about half foot, was behind him and they didn't score. That was the first possession of the game where someone didn't score. At that point, it just got touchdown for touchdown for touchdown for touchdown. You were just so surprised that he even missed one throw. And then he comes out at halftime and those throws are just on the money. Jamison Williams has turned into a really complete receiver, and so I think about the recipe of having the very best offense in the league and a defense is just kind of okay, but just makes like a couple plays. That recipe could get you to the super Bowl. We've seen Patriots teams get to the super Bowl with that sort of recipe. You can win the Super Bowl with the best offense in the league.
And just said, okay, Philadelphia beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl with that.
Recipe, right, but can you beat Patrick Mahomes with that recipe?
You can, well, at least you get there.
And they know Patrick Mahomes though. That's the thing. They've beaten them before. Like that's the thing about Detroit that I think makes them scary, very similar to Cincinnati. They've beaten everybody, right or they've been in a tight, close games with everyone. You think the Buffalo Bills want to see Detroit again in the Super Bowl, I don't know.
I don't know if they want to see that.
It's a long way away, and we'll talk about this game coming up throughout the week because it is so massive for them. I think they need a week off more than more than anyone.
It is interesting.
I think we will learn more about those Lions team against the Vikings than we did tonight against the forty nine ers, even though they still went out there and showed that, like Dan Campbell said, this game, we're going to go out We're going to throw everything at it, even though it really essentially meant nothing. I think with the Vikings are a much better offensive team at this point than the forty nine ers are, and the Detroit Lions stop them. Can they come up with a clutch win when it matters most on Sunday Night football?
We'll learn.
But is it fair to say that their offense is as good as it is because their playbook is the most expansive.
Well, it's everything, But that's part of it. That they've had this group together for three years and they know each other so well, and they have the offensive line and Ben Johnson's just not afraid. Let's actually listen to the hook and ladder play.
So it is third and twelve here, Lions willing to forty two with San Francisco.
Goff's gonna gal Emphy out of the gun.
There's the snap, Niners rush.
Forward, golf quick girl got a compleat and that's a lateral back this time down the right sideline.
Of them and Williams is gonna walk on to the end zone. Ooh, the touchdown.
Pass to aman Ra flipped it back.
To Jamo around the right side.
There was nobody there to deal with that speed and Jamo takes it to the house.
I mean, they're just pulling out stuff. It was second and twenty three, then it's third and twelve, like he's doing reverse. It's to Jamo on the first drive, just like he did in the NFFL champion game.
It's like the bag is so deep.
But this is the thing that lateral play maybe something that we're shocked by, but if you really watch them, they run that every three or four weeks like they that's been and that's one of their staple plays. On third and long, they try to run that play. They ran it against the Cardinals on third and nine. Here we're gonna do it, but this time Gibbs came out of the backfield and caught it right. And so they have different ways to do it, and they're really the honesty of it is a lot of people can think of those things. You can practice them, but to call them in yet to call them in a game and have like the trust in your players that it's gonna be executed. I'm and Rossaint Brown caught that ball on his knees and flipped the ball to Jameson before he got tagged down right like it's it's they're living on the edge, which is good. That's what you have to do at this time of the year to start making plays.
They're incredibly comfortable and they're willing to take any like any play call, any design, any idea, and they can execute it, which just builds on their confidence.
The crazy thing is, I think the forty nine ers were very up for this game. Offensively, they came out hot and defensively they actually got a decent amount of pressure on GoF. Bosa had a good game. It so with sometimes sticky coverage that GoF was just getting nice passes to.
And yet I do watch the.
Way that Purdy went through them and that they had touchdowns, you know, three touchdowns early. Perdy didn't have an incompletion for a while, ends up throwing a couple of picks late where you know one was an overthrow, and you do start worrying just like do they have enough pass rush. That's kind of like the number one thing.
This is where I will say two things. One about the Niners. They came out, they were ready to go. I love that. I love that they competed. They have their own issues, though, and I hopefully we get a chance to talk about those before I leave.
But I know I feel like I'm on borrowed time or something here.
Talk about it with Detroit.
You have to be able to rush the quarterback and affect the quarterback. They don't have that premier guy yet, right. Uh, Hutchison's supposed to come back if they make the Super Bowl. Hes supposed to be able to come back by that point, which would be awesome for him, but jes know how much he'll be ready for. But really, like, if you can't affect a quarterback in the playoffs, it's gonna be tough. It's always gonna be tough. And we've seen that again. They've been in these high scoring games the last what four or five weeks.
The Bears did it.
Even Camill Williams has been to the ball, so he just got a couple turnovers. They're gonna have to keep right turning the ball over. Yeah, they blitz forty one percent of the time. They only had thirty percent pressure rate. D Darius Smith I think has been good for them, but other than him, he needs help though it's the linebacker.
He's not like the old Zaria Smith when he was with the Green Bay Packers, he didn't need help. He needs help now, meaning that he needs someone to kind of also get pressure so that he can win because he wins.
Late Bridget, do you think that Kyle Shanahan was out there and he knows everyone's watching and he's going up against the other hot you know, play caller who he beat in the NFC Champion and he kind of broke out the good stuff tonight because that was like for a while, that was like the forty nine ers offense that we've been waiting to see all season. You were saying it, you were like, where is this forty nine ers offense been all year?
I mean, it's.
Interesting, right because it's for players.
When we get late into the season, when a team like the forty nine Ers are out of the playoffs or something like that, where the game doesn't matter, you wonder why these players are playing so hard or why these coaches are coaching like you.
Said they were hitting tonight.
Yeah, because everybody else is watching and they understand like, I mean, I remember it was crazy.
A couple of weeks ago.
People thought Kyle Shanahan was on the hot seat and they had to come out and be like, no, are you kidding me? But like some of these players, like their contracts are coming up, they're trying to put on tape that they can I mean, you've been there, trying to put on their best stuff so that they get paid next season.
I could like a showcase.
I kind of remember Maurice had a big contract year one year.
It was the whole thing, you know. Two thousand and eight, put it out there. Two thousand and eight we played against the Baltimore Ravens. I was hurt too, knee injury. Mcl gave them one hundred honey bun gotta paid quick condo.
Yes, yeah, quick, honey Bun.
You have to hold out a little for that.
No, I didn't.
They thought I was holding out a family member mine had passed away. They thought I was holding out. I was just at her funeral. But I would have You know me, I'm all about that dollar.
That's why I like, is he getting paid for this?
But no, it's not.
Can we go to the Niners real quick?
I just feel like we haven't talked enough about them and what they the problems that they're going to have to face this offseason. Right, what are you gonna do with Trent Williams. You have to pay your quarterback. Now, this is the thing about the quarterback. I have buddies who are Niners fans, and they're saying, oh, I'll give him forty million.
That's not the going rate for rock Perty and what he has been able to do.
Right, You talk about a guy that's been two NFC Championship games, a Super Bowl appearance this year, He's really been the only thing you've had offensively that's kind of stuck around him and George Kittle? Right, and then at the end of the day, like if you expect to be great, you have to pay your guy. The Niners have been playing on borrowed time, like Greg for some time here, not paying.
Your quarterback, right, what is my borrow time? Well, I'm about to leave him like five minutes?
Oh yeah, yeah.
But anyways, imagine who they have.
To lose if they pay their quarterback sixty five million dollars?
Right? Is Deebo guy gone? Is George Kittle a guy gone? Right? And you have to revamp for often to.
Okay, Hey, I'm gonna answer your questions one by one. Trent Williams. If he wants to play, you just let him keep playing, because right he's like one of the greatest of all time. Devo's gone kittle, you gotta just keep it going. He played at an all pro level this year. And Purdy I thought it was interesting that Aikman on the telecast said, well, they've got some tough decisions coming up, and you know those aren't gonna be easy for them to make. And you just know, and I know moreaste knows this youttube bridget like how it works. Troy Yikman is not saying that in a vacuum. He's talking to the people at the highest levels.
Huh.
Heos, Well, one of them's a GM of the forty nine, and so for him to just throw it out there like that, that's just it just might be the forty nine ers have shown us a long process here to figure out how this is gonna go, like it was with Ayuk and Debo back in the day. And Purdy's gonna want sixty million dollars. He's not gonna take some big discount because every quarterback gets paid like the highest.
Do you think they should?
My question is, if you don't pay for Rock Party, what do you want? What is a perfect scenario for you if you're the forty nine ers.
Not going to a playoffs, if you don't play Rock Perdy.
But I just don't understand, like this conversation of if you should pay b Rock Perty and not pay Rock Party, it's just giving me a headache.
Because don't think he's going there totally is no no, I agree, there is what I don't. I think they got to pay him.
Know I one hundred percent agree.
But if you go on Twitter, all these Niners fans are like Rock Purty's not the guy. You know, Brock Purty can't execute if you think about like you mentioned who he the lack of playmakers he had this season, what he did in his first season, like literally went in and beat Tom Brady Game one and then went to the NFC Championship game like he has done so much. The narrative around him because he was the last pick in the draft is that you should not pay him. Now if it was another quarterback, let's talk about the Giants, and yes that didn't work out well, but remember they paid Daniel Jones.
Why why?
But why because he was because he was a first round pick, and it was an easier decision. If brock Party was a first round pick playing exactly the same way as he is now, I totally agree.
I think it's a it's a great point. He is getting punished. I say it's different because Daniel Jones wasn't good.
If you're going to pay him, why not pay brock Party.
Add this too, that defense wasn't the top defense that has been all year. Right, Everything on the Niners fell apart this year. The defense wasn't good. You couldn't run the football. You play with four or five different running backs. Receivers were banged up, didn't show up for training camp, dropping passes, all these different things.
But he's been the one consistent thing there. He's been the one consistent piece he has.
His level of play has gone up and down, and I think it's a fantastic point. If he was first round pick. Oh, we probably aren't having this conversation. If he dressed better, like he kind of dresses like Maurice does showing up for the money Channel five, just like a plaid shirt.
If he got his players like, I don't know air monarchs or he like, oh, like why did he have to get him toyotas? Like couldn't he have gotten.
He has a Toyota deal.
Okay, he's got it right. No way he would have gone. There's no way he could have afforded that. People were like, oh, he must have taken out loans.
Like, no, Toyota did that. It's a big Toyota day.
All right, well can they do it for us?
We're talking about it.
I knew you were going to say, that's all we're talking.
About right now.
I do think it's nuanced though, because it's just a weird spot that because of the salary cap and these quarterbacks that if you're a top thirteen to fourteen quarterback, it's like you all get about roughly the same amount of money.
Sixty five million dollars.
And that's really it's it's kind of not fair because we kind of know where brock Party is. He's way above that Daniel Jones level, which was the forty million, but he's not in that top five to six level. That's that's fair to say, and I think that's going to continue. He's somewhere depending on what's around him. What's in that six or seventy how much money had that says?
Is he better than him?
He's right at that he's in that same ball park.
Better yes or no? Would you rather have him or do it? I'd rather have Party?
Yeah, I mean, so, so.
You're gonna pay him more than you pay that that's fifty five.
Yeah, that's what I mean. So it's just there's something awkward about it. It's like, why does that guy? And it happened when Derek Carr was the highest paid player in the league, like it keep it keeps happening that there's it's unfair. What it really points out is that Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are criminally underpaid, not just not just under the salar cap.
Imagine if there was no salary cap. Oh Josh, maybe year. Okay.
Can I make two points though, One, how much money have you saved by having Brock Party the past three seasons?
Two?
If you don't sign Brock Purty, Okay, here are your options. I don't know where they'll end up in the draft. Say they're in mid mid pick at this point.
Yeah, they're in the team.
Okay, So you trade up or whatever. Get a quarterback that you take a risk on, You're not going to get a top two quarterback. You take a quarterback, you get a risk on, You hope that he works out and you get his rookie deal, or you sign one of these other quarterbacks to a one or two year deal, and you're still not like building a foundation for the future. If you sign brock Party, that can be your guy for years to come and you can start getting all the pieces around. If you sign one of these other free agent quarterbacks on a one or two year deal, you're taking a risk.
Again.
I agree Trey Lance.
I mean, let's be honest, they traded up to get Trey Lance, didn't work out, and then they drafted Rock Party, and Trey Lance had already been there and brock Party had been playing better and it took for Trey Lance to get hurt for them to do That's the business side of it.
I completely agree with you.
Like I said, they're gonna have to start dealing with what everyone else is dealing with, right, like being able to build a roster around a quarterback.
That you have to pay fifty to sixty million dollars to.
Charick Yward might be another guy that might not be around there for long.
By the way, why didn't you win the Super Bowl last year when you had all these players.
Ran to Patrick Mahomes.
Well that's what I'm saying. And what but that to me? His playoff performance and we'll get off party. Here is the reason why you can't let let him go. He was in those what more did you want?
Right like?
He was in those positions where you needed a drive to get to overtime or win the Super Bowl, and he made the drive, and then you get into overtime and he has another great drive and the people around him kind of fail him, and any of the same in the NFC Championship. He did the same thing in the divisional round. So it's like you just you just can't throw him back.
Now you could.
You could choose to just be very uncomfortable and not give him his money next year and make him go into his contract year. It's a little dicey when he's making that little money.
Joe Flacco did that. You had to overpay for Joe Flacco.
Right, he would maybe hold out.
They are eleventh in Tankathon by the way, right now, I mean I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna stop you from leaving, Maurice. We probably gonna land this plane in like ten minutes.
It's gonna take too long. If you go, just say, just keep going. Greg, don't give him the.
Opportunity to see you, guys. I gotta I gotta go. We have half our times to them. I gave you like twenty minutes.
No, but you people want to hear what you have to say. They don't care what I say.
They do care what I do.
I think we did.
I think I think we need more Bridget in our life. All Right, we're gonna say goodbye to Maurice. No, he's gonna You're gonna say by on the microphone, and then we're gonna go to break quickly. And you're gonna because you know, you haven't talked to this audience. Yeah, you're going to say a proper goodbye. You're not just yeah, what are you going to say?
Yeah?
Oh no, listen, hey, First and foremost, I love what Greg is doing. I love Bridget. He's been an awesome time work with them, Greg over the last couple of years. You though, he ducked on me this year, and I'm happy for this and I want to come back and do this again.
We'll do it. So we'll do it again.
I'll see you in about fifteen.
Minutest far from the glass, all right, I'll see the far we'll see.
And it's funny that he's saying he wants to come on this guy. All right, we'll be back.
Just come on.
What does your thing like? You're thinking people don't want to come on like you're the hottest thing on television.
Back on NFL Daily. That's why it's fun having you and m j D on the show. It's like, you don't know what we're going to talk about. I didn't know we were going to get so fired up about party and and uh, that was fun because a couple feel for him, a couple of little things left, and then we're going to get to our captains of the week and then we're gonna across the street and celebrate the end of the Monday night football season. Did you because I was actually eating I was standing Molly to the side. I was eating it to Molly. It actually got on your shirt.
I didn't want to call you out on oh no, but yeah, just make sure you put that in the dry cleaning.
That's on the that's like a button. That's a problem.
Did you see when Jake Bates was trying to work out that.
I felt his pain because I've been having some low back problems.
Do we have the clib let's let's do it?
Yeah?
Yeah, Joe Detroit lyons skicker or Jake baits.
Over here on the sidelines.
He looks like he's okay.
Now he hasn't gotten any treatment from the medical staff, but he was on its left head.
End a softball.
You've probably done that at all when you've had like a nod in your body somewhere.
That's what it looked like he was doing.
Okay, said he was fine.
Good. That explains the video showed he's weighing on something.
I mean, so, the funny thing about that clip is it looks like he's on the field, like they don't do a good job of me. It looks like he's on the sideline doing that because you don't see anything around him, And I'm like, is he just on the field like doing that?
And a break that was that was borderline? Like you couldn't show that on broadcast television. Someone got it in my late night and said Channel five back in the day late night used to be some some softcore action.
Get your head out of the gut.
Was it?
You know, they were telling me Jake Bates, by the way, booted a nice.
It's a facial reaction kick here too.
Going into.
At a key point in the game where they were trying to take a six point lead, he had a fifty seven yarder.
Pretty impressive from this.
Was that after this stretch or before.
I think that was after the stretch. So they're gonna feel good, you know about him.
This Jake Moody. Someone given him a tennis ball.
So Jake Moody, I think has kicked his last field goal extra point for the forty nine ers, the third round pick from a year ago, who's been struggling. And again, you know, leany On Troy here said how he thinks Kyle Shanahan is kind of sick of this kid, and he missed a couple of kicks tonight, and there was a moment where he sent him out there to kick a fifty eight yard or on a fourth and ten, and I honestly thought, like he's almost setting up Jake Moody to fail that that he's going to give him another chance to almost redeem himself, but not really have any faith in a game that isn't that important for the forty nine ers and Baits just missed and Moody just missed another one, and then after that in garbage time he missed an extra point and I thought, like that was it.
There.
They're not going to keep Jake Moody just a little. I think he's not going to be here week eighteen. Correct, interesting, like tomorrow we're going to wake up and Jake Moody gone.
Or they bench him and keep him on the roster for whatever reason. But I kind of would be surprised, yeah, if he if he kicked again. It just it's kind of like those games that you see, like the Colts the other day. After doing this long enough, it's not it's not like it takes rocket sides and you say, oh, that's that's the type of game that people get fired. Not sure exactly which people, but people get fired from the game, like the Colts had against the Giant. I've seen the end of kicker runs of like highly drafted kickers, Like that's how it ends. Is a night like this after already it was going in decline and on primetime and they show the face of costume like that's how it ends. It's probably over. We shouldn't end on I disagree. Yeah, well, it's just an opinion.
It's just an opinion, and you don't wish bad against somebody. I'm not wishing the New year prediction be positive.
I will I'm gonna have a bad couple end this show positively by talking about our Captain Morgan, Captain of the Week. It's time for the Captain's Corner, presented by Captain Morgan.
I'm gonna go first.
Oh why not? Kind of rude, but go for please.
I thought it would give you more time.
Just in case, give me more time. It's already in my rain baby.
Okay, so no, you go now it has to be you.
I mean, you've already shown you've got nerves of absolute steel. Put on the spot on television tonight, you were asked to do ninety seconds of your stand up set, Bridget.
I didn't laugh once, and I'll never forget that.
That's not true. I absolutely laughed at but you were set. I was absolutely laughed when you got to the punchlines. You were setting up the joke. It was a very quick, too quick.
If anyone ever says on TV and do ninety seconds. You need like a setup, right that This is very people.
Stand up is just like knock knock, who's there? Ha ha ha. No, like it's like storytelling.
But you've been working on five minutes. You've been working on a tight five.
I already did a tight five. I don't know where you missed this story.
I think you were working on. It was something you wanted to know.
I did it.
Yeah, I haven't talked to you since then. Okay it was and uh, come what do that? None of this is true now you're just making up things.
No, but it's true.
Okay, let's get to the Captain Morgan because I need to go to bed. I'm gonna go with Saquon Barkley. Mister Saquon Barkley, he surpassed two thousand rushing yards and dare I say in sixteen games. I know there's a lot of controversy because there's an extra game now that they play seventeen, but he was able to do it in sixteen games. I thought his quote was so just like I want to say cute, but that's not the word I want to say. It was just like so pure when he was like, this is my first first hat and T shirt game. I didn't even know those WestEd like the fact that he did this in his first season with a new team. You it is so hard to not root for this guy. He has been everything and more that the Eagles could have asked for from him. I think, you know, we're just seeing the beginning of the next wave of Saquon Barkley doing it.
Had twenty nine years old doing it after he gets basically cut from his old team, Like, pay pay this man, pay this man.
He is happy that they didn't.
Frankly, in the end, it worked out well for me because he would have taken that money he wanted to stay if they had offered him the right value. And yeah, he leads the league with three hundred and forty five carries. Just give the man the week off next week. Don't worry about that. They have the rushing record.
They have the Giants.
But oh and he could break the rushing record.
But here's the thing.
If it took him over twenty two carries to get over one hundred yards last week against the Cowboys, Like, you can't have him out there just giving him carry after carry. That would be the worst case scenario, my Captain of the Week is gonna be t Higgins, one of my favorite wide receivers to watch of the last four years, ever since he came out of Clemson. I just love his style of receiver because, yeah, he doesn't create all the separation in the world, but he is so good at the catch point, and that's the hardest thing to do as a wide receiver. It's almost impossible to find them. Guys that consist stantly just can win in tight coverage. And he has the perfect quarterback who will give him a chance to do that over and over, and so he can be physical like he is in the end zone.
He can moss guys.
He has great hands, and he had a tough moment where he fumbled there and what do you do. You go make up for it with a game you know, go ahead touchdown and then the game winning touchdown. Just a ridiculous performance. And it might be the last time he ever plays in Cincinnati, or it might be the game that actually convinces Mike Brown, their team owner, to just open the wallet and pay Jamar and Ti like that was the type of performance that actually could change all their futures.
And he was playing hurt. Let us not forget that.
I think I did just see something online where like the government is giving money to people who overpaid on their taxes.
So maybe that's Mike Brown and like, okay, send that money directly to t Higgins.
I haven't I haven't heard about that one. I liked it. You know, when they got the child credit back in the day, that was fun. I guess I'm out of that. Maybe you can get into that business.
If they Okay, I'm waiting for the next stimulus.
All right.
That was the Captain's Corner, presented by Captain Morgan. It's delicious and crisp, perfect for game day with friends.
Spice it up.
