Staff Sergeant David G. Bellavia

Born: November 10th, 1975
Staff Sergeant Bellaviashowed extraordinary courage on November 10, 2004, during the Second Battle of Fallujah in Iraq.
While clearing a house with his platoon, Bellavia and his fellow soldiers came under intense enemy fire. With members of his platoon in danger, he exposed himself to enemy fire, provided covering fire so his men could escape, and then reentered the house alone. He engaged multiple enemy fighters at extremely close range, repeatedly risking his own life to protect the soldiers beside him.
For his extraordinary heroism and selfless actions that night, Bellavia was awarded the Medal of Honor.

After serving for six years, Bellavia left the service with the rank of staff sergeant in 2005.

On June 7, 2019, it was revealed to the media that Bellavia's Silver Star would be upgraded to the Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor awarding ceremony took place at the White House on June 25, 2019, and was awarded to Bellavia by President Donald Trump. The ceremony was also attended by former members of Bellavia's platoon in Iraq.
We honor Staff Sergeant David G. Bellavia and the courage, loyalty, and brotherhood his actions represent. As a veteran, I believe these stories must continue to be told. May we never forget the extraordinary Americans who were willing to risk everything for their brothers and sisters in arms and the country they served.
