America's homelessness policy is undergoing a fundamental reset. HUD is trying to move the nation beyond measuring success by housing placement alone and toward recovery and self-sufficiency. Under Housing First, one man was considered a success. Now, he's dead. In 2025, 48% of the homeless who died in NYC were "sheltered." If our definition of success begins/ends with where someone sleeps, we will continue to fail those who need our help most.

John Dominick Feeney
Born in Ireland in 1843, he immigrated with his parents and siblings to the US and settled in Houston County, Minnesota.

When the Civil War broke out, he was in New Orleans and was conscripted in the Confederate Army.  He deserted and went upriver to Cairo, Illinois where he enlisted the Illionois 9th Infantry regiment. He was wounded in the battle of Fort Donaldson in Tennessee. In the hospital he contracted typhoid fever, and he lost his hearing.  

He died in 1928 in North Dakota.

This is also the 5 year Remembrance of The Freedom 13 who died at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan.
Thirteen U.S. service members were killed during the attack at Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan, on August 26, 2021

The fallen heroes served in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army, and U.S. Navy.

The online sympathy surrounding Lindsay Clancy, who killed her three young children, has exposed something much bigger about modern parenting culture,

Alvin will discuss:
Parents today have disposable diapers, efficient appliances, grocery pickup, meal delivery, Amazon, robot vacuums, and countless other conveniences previous generations never had.
Yet social media increasingly rewards parents for publicly documenting resentment, breakdowns, and “healing journeys” centered on how difficult their children make their lives.
Alvin believes the reaction to the Clancy case is an extreme example of what happens when adult emotional validation begins to eclipse responsibility and the well-being of children.
His broader concern is that this mindset also influences schools and the mental-health profession, shaping how children are taught to understand hardship, responsibility, and resilience.
