By Newsbreak Producer Matthew Veeran - World AMR Awareness Week is celebrated between the 18th & 24th of November every year. It's meant to increase the visibility of AMR or Antimicrobial Resistance - which occurs when bacteria, viruses and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines. This in turn makes infections harder to treat, increasing the risk of disease spread, illness and death. During the recent 3rd Annual Global Media Forum on AMR, a number of experts joined in on the discussion to look at ways the world can address its threat. South African Vanessa Carter was among the speakers. She is an AMR survivor and currently serves as Chair of the World Health Organization (WHO) Taskforce of AMR Survivors. Vanessa began her address at the forum by sharing the story of how she survived Antimicrobial Resistance...
