By Newsbreak Executive Producer, Salma Patel - The funeral of Respected Durban Tamil music composer and singer, Valla Kiston, is taking place today. Kiston passed away just seven days after the death of his wife. His funeral service is currently underway at the Shri Mariamman Temple Hall at Mount Edgecombe, north of Durban. Kiston passed away from heart failure at the weekend at the age of 74. He founded the popular local band Luxmi Entertainers in 1977 with his siblings. The band was credited with being the first musical group of Indian Origin to have an album made locally. Annai Oru Deepam was the very first vinyl album recorded and features local stars like Lotus FM's very own Sagren Naidoo, Beema Naidoo, Leelu Pillay and Sergai Kisten. Speaking to Newsbreak from the funeral today, temple chairperson, Seelan Archery is urging mourners to wear a mask in these times of COVID ...........
