The arms deal corruption case against former president, Jacob Zuma and French arms dealer, Thales, is due back in the Pietermaritzburg High Court today. Judge Piet Koen postponed the case earlier this month - to hear Zuma's application for state prosecutor - advocate Billy Downer - to recuse himself. The application - part of Zuma's plea explanation -- has been delayed by Zuma's health condition since August. The long-delayed trial relates to charges of racketeering, corruption, fraud, and money laundering, in the 1990s arms deal. Dries Liebenberg reports...

The country heads to the polls for the 7th democratic elections where over 27 million people will cast their vote in a flourishing democracy. By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Human rights and Child protection organisation, Operation Bobbi Bear says much more needs to be done to strengthen the justice system when it comes to protecting children who are victims of crimes and violence in the country. This comes as the country observes Child Protection Month this May. According to Statistics South Africa, approximately 45% of the households with children experienced violence against children in 2021/22. Meanwhile, the Governance, Public Safety and Justice Survey (GPSJS) found that in 2022/23, males aged 17 years and younger were more prone to any form of assault compared to their female counterparts, with males accounting for 56%, while females constituted 44,1%. Operation Bobbi Bear founder, Jackie Brandfield says greater funding for programmes are needed if the country is to win the battle against crimes against children...
