By Newsbreak Producer Taresh Harreeparshad - Plans to mark the one hundred- and thirty-year celebrations of the Natal Indian Congress (NIC) was unveiled at the Sastri College in Durban yesterday. These include a book programme, documenting the formation of the liberation movement and even institutionalizing the legacy of the formation through an academic institution. These events will build up to the main celebration in August, which marks the formation period of the NIC. Established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1894 - the organization played an integral role in the dismantling of apartheid. The NIC was home to unforgettable stalwarts of the liberation struggle - from Dr. Monty Naicker to Farouk Meer.
