By Newsbreak Producer Matthew Veeran - 26-year-old lifelong superhero fan Lauren Bianca is breaking stereotypes following the release of her self-published comic book "The Shadower". Hailing from Chatsworth, south of Durban Lauren has a psychology degree, but her love for comics and writing compelled her to create her own fictional world - where her and her friends play the heroes. Its rare to hear of an Indian-origin comic book author from South Africa and Lauren says it's even rarer for a women to do it. In this interview, I spoke to Lauren to find out more about her book and the inspiration behind it...

By Newsbreak Producer, Tashlan Naidoo - Families of some of the 44 unaccounted people in the George building collapse in the Western Cape wait in hope, as today marks day five since the tragic incident. The death toll also increased to 9, after a critically ill patient died in hospital. More heavy machinery has been deployed to the site as rescuers attempt to demolish fallen concrete from the once four-storey building. Humanitarian Aid organisation, the Gift of the Givers have also deployed their sniffer dogs to assist. SABC reporter, Sagree Chetty  is at the site and brings us an update...

By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) says strict action will be taken against pharmacies irregularly distributing products containing codeine. The Authority says it's developing a plan to force pharmacies and others to digitally record the IDs of people who have been given codeine which is used as pain relief medicines and cough mixtures. The plan comes in response to high levels of codeine abuse particularly amongst the youth. SAHPRA Inspectorate and Regulatory Compliance Manager, Daphne Fafudi says consultations are underway with various stakeholders on the rollout of the platform...
