By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - South Africans are forking out 11-percent (or R430.00) more for a basic basket of food as compared to one year ago. This is according to the Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice and Dignity Group in its October Household Affordability Index. The basket which consists of 44 basic foods - such as rice, maize, oil and beans - now costs over R4,700. Programme Coordinator of the group, Mervyn Abrahams says there was a slight decrease from September to October. Abrahams says today's fuel price increase will further exacerbate the cost of groceries and that he does not see any reprieve going into the festive season...
