By Newsbreak Producer Matthew Veeran - A young Durban surfer hailing from South Beach is preparing to jet off later this morning to sunny El Salvadore, to take part in the prestigious International Surfing Association (ISA) World Junior Championships. 14-year-old Indiphile Osinachi began her journey in late 2017, when a fellow learner convinced her to tryout at a nearby surf club. Like many in her shoes, her early days were difficult - but she persevered and eventually started outperforming her peers. Countless competitions later, her trip to El Salvadore is testament to the improvements she has made over the years. But, problems in securing funding for the event almost shattered her dreams. Speaking to Newsbreak ahead of her flight, "Indie" explains how a chance encounter with American surfing legend Kelly Slater helped her secure the R70,000 needed for travel expenses...
