DUT strike enters second week - unions demand 10% increase

by Newsbreak Senior Producer, Genevieve Lanka - Labour unions representing striking workers at the Durban University of Technology says they will continue to down tools until management meets their demands. This after talks between the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu), the Tertiary Education National Union of South Africa (Tenusa), the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) and the employer deadlocked. The strike is now in it's second week. The workers are demanding a ten percent increase while management is offering four. Nehawu National Spokesperson, Khaya Xaba says they reject the claim that the university does not have the money for increases.
