04/24/24: Anna Johnson has lived in Fargo for 17 years. She currently serves as the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commissioner for Stonewall Sports, sits on Fargo’s Arts and Culture Commission, is a board member for The Arts Partnership, and previously served on Fargo’s Native American Commission.  She's now running for Fargo City Commission and joins Joel Heitkamp to talk about her campaign and goals. 

04/24/24: Bo Mitchell has represented the people of District 50 (Nashville area) in the Tennessee House of Representatives since 2012. The Tennessee House is composed of 75 Republicans and 24 Democrats, and the Senate has 27 Republicans and 6 Democrats. Representative Mitchell joins Joel on "News and Views" to talk about a Tennessee bill that would allow teachers to carry a gun at school. It passed the House yesterday by a vote of 68-28, and passed the Senate earlier this month by a vote of 26-5, and is now heading to Gov. Bill Lee's desk.

04/24/24: Laurie Levenson is a Professor of Law at Loyola Law School and Legal Commentator for CBS, CNN, ABC, NBC, BBC, and NPR. She joins Joel again on "News and Views" to break down Donald Trump's current "hush money" trial, and the gag order hearing due to his behavior. 

04/23/24: Cara Mund is running for Congress as a Republican, and joins Joel on "News and Views" while he's in Bismarck. They cover everything from Donald Trump to the Farm Bill to her pro-choice views. 

04/22/24: Dr. Kari Odermann is a North Dakota native and fled Kyiv, with her family, prior to the attacks on the city, and is now living in Germany She has been a political commentator in Ukraine and covered President Zelensky when she was a news anchor for state-run Ukrainian TV. Kari and Joel talk about the U.S. House passing a foreign-aid bill for Ukraine, despite North Dakota's Congressman voting against it, what the war is looking like for Ukrainians, and more.  

04/22/24: Ryan Janke from KFGO News joins Joel Heitkamp to talk about a story on KFGO's website regarding a beating earlier this month in downtown Fargo.  "Sam Pikula suffered multiple broken bones in his face, including both orbital bones, his nose in five places, and his forehead was injured so badly he needed a titanium plate inserted. He was left with around 30 stitches that run from ear to ear across the top of his head."

04/16/24: Jen Pickett is the Recycling Coordinator for the City of Fargo, and Mary Aldrich is the Sales Manager at MinnKota EnviroServices. They both join Joel in the KFGO studio to talk about what to and not to recycle, Earth Day, and more. 

04/18/24: Joel Heitkamp is joined by John Strand in the KFGO studio to talk about the recent resignation from the FM Diversion Board. John is running for reelection to the Fargo City Commission, where he has been serving since 2016. 

04/18/24: Joel is joined in the studio by Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney to talk about the sudden resignation of Joel Paulsen, the former FM Diversion Director. He resigned last Tuesday, and his departure was a surprise for more than half of the members of the Diversion Authority Board.

04/12/24: Joel Heitkamp is joined on the KFGO airwaves by Cara Mund, candidate for Congress. They talk about her decision to run again, and the big differences between her and the other Republican candidates. . Cara is a native of North Dakota, and she said that she made history in 2017 by being the first and only Miss America from the state. She is also a practicing lawyer, and now she’s running again for public office.

04/11/24: A long-time assistant Cass County State’s Attorney is running for district judge. Ryan Younggren hopes to succeed East-Central District Judge John Irby, who’s retiring after serving 22 years. Ryan joins Joel in the KFGO studio to talk about his decision to run for district judge and what he hopes to achieve. 

04/11/24: Joel Heitkamp is joined again by Congressman Kelly Armstrong. He joins from D.C. but talks about his run for Governor of North Dakota. He also discusses his campaign strategy against Tammy Miller, oil production, the North Dakota GOP resolutions, and more while talking with Joel. 

04/11/24: Julie Fedorchak is a member of the North Dakota Public Service Commission and a candidate for US Congress. She withdrew from the endorsement race at the GOP state convention on Saturday after delegates were spoiling ballots for Rick Becker, and the party endorsed Alex Balazs for U.S. House.  She joins Joel on "News and Views" to talk about the convention, her support for Donald Trump, women's rights, and more. 

04/11/24: Kirsten Baesler is the state school superintendent of the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. Delegates voted 967 to 426 at the GOP state convention to support Jim Bartlett over incumbent Kirsten Baesler, who has led North Dakota’s K-12 education system since 2012. She joins Joel Heitkamp on KFGO to talk about the convention, public dollars going to private schools, teacher shortages, and more.

04/10/24: Al Carlson represented Fargo for 26 years in the state House for District 41, from 1993 through 2018. In his last 10 years as a legislator, he was the majority leader. 04/08/24: A home-schooling proponent who wants to bring the 10 Commandments into public schools received support from NDGOP to be the next superintendent of public instruction. Delegates at the convention voted 967 to 426 to support Jim Bartlett over incumbent Kirsten Baesler, who has led North Dakota’s K-12 education system since 2012. 04/08/24: Dr. Rick Becker served in the State House from 2012 to 2022, and is running for US House, and speaks to the chaos that ensued around the Congressional vote at the NDGOP convention this past weekend. North Dakota Republicans endorsed Alex Balazs for U.S. House and Julie Fedorchak withdrew from consideration.

04/08/24: Diane and Troy DeLeon are the owners of the historic Moorhead Dairy Queen, and they’re celebrating 75 years of operation this year. Troy heads into the KFGO studio to talk about their challenge announcement to gear up for DQ Miracle Treat Day celebration this summer. 

04/05/24: Roger is the Deputy Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee and is the Senior Advisor to the Biden Victory Fund. He’ll be speaking at the North Dakota Dem NPL convention tomorrow, and joins Joel on the KFGO airwaves to talk about messaging to rural voters, the state of the economy, and more.

04/03/24: Congressman Denver Riggleman will be speaking at the North Dakota Democratic-NPL State Convention this weekend. He and Joel talk on "News and Views" about his time in Congress, why he left the Republican party, how he feels about Trump republicans, and more.  Congressman Denver Riggleman represented Virginia’s 5th District from 2019 to 2021. He is the only Republican Congressman to speak out on the floor against QAnon conspiracy theories and the threat they pose to the American people. He served as a senior technical advisor for the United States House Select Committee’s investigation on the January 6 Attack of the U.S. Capitol.  He is currently CEO of Riggleman Information and Intelligence Group (RIIG) supporting technology development in the domestic counter-terrorism space, chief strategist for the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) where he supports predictive analysis and disinformation tracking, co-owner of the award winning Silverback Distillery and The NY Times best-selling author of THE BREACH-The Untold Story of the Investigation into January 6th.

04/03/24: Merrill Piepkorn has been serving in the North Dakota Senate representing Fargo District 44 since 2017. He announced his candidacy for Governor of North Dakota yesterday. He joins Joel in the KFGO studio to talk about his decision and what he hopes to achieve if elected in November.

04/02/24: Fargo City Commissioner Denise Kolpack joins Joel in the KFGO studio to talk about last night's city commission meeting. At the meeting, the commission voted down a ceasefire resolution. Mayor Mahoney and Commissioner were opposed to it, whereas Commissioners Strand and Preston voted in favor, and Commissioner Piepkorn did not attend.  Joel and Denise also talk about public comments and other goals of the city commission. 

04/01/24: Abdallah Salha is a 22-year-old Concordia College student from Gaza, and Prairie Johnson is a Fargo advocate for a ceasefire. They both join Joel Heitkamp for a conversation about the Israel-Hamas war. The Fargo City Commission will be voting tonight either for or against a cease-fire resolution, and Abdallah and Prairie are pushing for the resolution to pass. 

04/01/24 Dr. Rick Becker served in the State House from 2012 to 2022, and is running for US House. He joins Joel on "News and Views" for a conversation covering everything from his campaign finances, to the state GOP resolutions heading to convention, to his recent endorsements.

03/28/24: Retired Navy Commander Joe Fraser is running for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota against Senator Amy Klobuchar, hoping to flip the seat from blue to red. He joins Joel on "News and Views" to talk about his campaign and what makes him stand out as a candidate, and they also dive into hot topics including the southern border and overturn of Roe v. Wade. 

03/28/24: Joel Heitkamp is joined in the KFGO studio by the President of the Fargo School Board, Melissa Burkland. She talks with Joel about Tuesday's school board meeting, where many attendees expressed their frustrations with a fetal development video being played in Fargo public schools. She also breaks down their long-range facilities plan and how to accommodate a growing population of students. 

03/28/24: Joel Heitkamp is joined by North Dakota's Attorney General Drew Wrigley to talk about a release of late Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem's deleted emails. The 2,700-page document, released Wednesday, contains about 2,000 thousand emails from Stenehjem’s personal phone. Stenehjem’s former deputy and his long-time administrative assistant deleted thousands of emails shortly after his death. Attorney General Wrigley takes questions from Joel and listeners regarding the release, if there will be more, and how they play into the Ray Holmberg investigation.

03/27/24: Joel Heitkamp goes over the current 15 resolutions that the state committee of the North Dakota Republican Party has approved, and will be voted on at the state GOP convention next month in Fargo. Some of the topics in these resolutions deal with property taxes, gay marriage, and withdrawing from the United Nations.

03/27/24: Steve Hunegs is the executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas. Steve is in Israel now with the JCRC, and tells Joel about their trip and talks about the relationship between the US and Israel.

03/27/24: Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski joins Joel for a monthly conversation on KFGO. They talk about the safety of officers during poor weather conditions, the recent report of the Police Department, current staffing and facility needs, and more. 

03/26/24: North Dakota State Representative Jim Jonas joins Joel on "News and Views" to talk about a resolution approved by the NDGOP's resolutions committee regarding abortion. The resolution would call for the outlawing of all abortions, and would provide for criminal charges against a woman who has an abortion, as well as “co-conspirators.” The issue will be up for a vote in the first day of the Republican state convention next month.

She frequently joins Joel on "News and Views," and joined today to talk about Donald Trump's legal battles and the current case being heard by the Supreme Court. An appeals court ruled yesterday that Donald Trump can have 10 additional days to pay a reduced $175 million bond to appeal the $464 million civil fraud judgment against him, his adult sons and his company.  The Supreme Court today appeared likely to reject a challenge to the abortion pill mifepristone, with a number of justices indicating the lawsuit should be dismissed. The court heard oral arguments on the Biden administration's appeal of lower court rulings that restricted women's access to the pill, including its availability by mail.

03/25/24: Joel Heitkamp and former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer sit down together for a conversation covering everything from Trump republicans, to the Stenehjem emails, to the ethical (or lack thereof) behavior within state and national governments.
