Good morning, I never Readymanu, and this is your morning news fix for Monday, ninth of September. In this update, more than four hundred Christian organizations are singing from the same hymn sheet in opposition to the government's Treaty Principal's Bill. The Prime Minister has agreed to support the bill to the Select Committee stage, but no further. The group has written an open letter to the government asking them to pull it before it gets there. Tartanaki Cathedral's very Reverend Jay Rooker says truthful discussion of the treaty is helpful, but the government isn't telling the truth. If we truly want to honor the treaty, then that's been undemocratic and that's just simply not true.

There's nothing more democratic than honoring your agreements.

QB Rail will be sentenced today over last year's dramatic drifting incident involving the Kentucki Ferry and the Cook Strait. The inter Island of vessel lost power after its engines failed in January twenty twenty three and it began drifting towards rocks with more than eight hundred people on board. Kiwi Rail pleaded guilty to exposing passengers to harm under the Health and Safety at Work Act and will be sentenced at the Wellington District Court today. Worries mass layoff set two North Island mills would kill the Ruapehu community. Windstone International is looking to close its sore in pulp mills between Oakune and Wyourdu, blaming soaring electricity prices curbing profitability. Nearly three hundred workers were expected to learn their fate today, but Mere Western Curtain understands the meeting has now been delayed until tomorrow afternoon. Raymans and Clear's partner works at one of the mills and says closure would be disastrous right.

A homicide investigation continues in the far north of the country after a man died over the weekend. The man was dropped off at kind Higher Hospital with serious injuries late on Saturday night and died shortly afterwards, and a criminal defense lawyer says it's very rare to see the public court and the crossfire of a homicide. Since the start of August, police have launched eleven homicide investigations around the country. One has since been deemed not a homicide and has been referred to the coroner. Lawyer John Munroe told Ryan Bridge police may be stretched.

A nineteen year old man charged with murder in relation to the death of an Auckland teenager is due in the Auckland District Court today. He's also facing three counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Sky City's voluntary closure of its Auckland casino is expected to cost the company some serious money. It's been closed since midnight and will remain so until Friday midnight because of a breach of host responsibility. Herald Property editor Ann Gibson says Sky City was losing a million dollars plus a day when it had to close for the pandemic and in spot the NRRAL League's top eight has been found.
