We're one third of the way through the high school football season, and some of the state's powers are already asserting themselves.
Defending state champions John Curtis, St. Thomas More, and Ouachita Christian have started the year undefeated, all while taking on regional powers. Several schools, such as Evangel and Opelousas, are in the midst of a rebound after languishing for the last few years. They are seeking a return to glory as their district schedules get under way.
Speaking of district play, several major districts in the state will begin their league schedules this week. The New Orleans Catholic League and the Shreveport-based 1-5A are among the districts opening their slates, while the Acadiana/Lake Charles based 3-5A enters the third week of its league games.
As these district schedules play out, the contenders will separate themselves from the pretenders as we inch closer to the playoffs.
We'll take a look at who's been impressive so far and we'll preview the big games across the state in this week's edition of the Pelican State Prep Football Preview.
