(00 - 7:31)  A special half day of service will take place at the Friedman JCC in Kingston on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 19, called Blankets and Broth. Atty. Catherine O’Donnell of O’Donnell Law aided in the creation of this annual event, aimed to honor the civil rights leader while simultaneously brining together the community. The public is invited to come help make fringe blankets for the underprivileged between 9am and noon – all materials will be provided. You don’t need any sewing experience, just to be able to cut and tie a knot! Blankets will be donated to Ruth’s Place, Project Warm for Veterans Affairs and the Salvation Army Kirby Family House. The public is also asked to bring canned items or other nonperishables that will go to Sara’s Table within the JCC itself. Learn more at Odonnell-law.com.

Meghan Carnevale returns to tell listeners that they can join the Y and pay no joiners fee in the month of January! The YMCA is a nonprofit and will not turn someone away for an inability to pay, with the help of community sponsor and fundraiser there are scholarship opportunities for memberships based on need. Rachel Stark, Riverfront Parks Committee member and Program Manager for the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, joins the show to dish on this years event, taking place from 12-2pm Saturday January 24th at Nesbitt Park. The free, family-friendly event will feature a winter hike, activities for all, educational hubs, hot coca and s'mores as well as a special dog sled team program! Winterfest aligns with the committees other initiatives, like Riverfest and Chalkfest with a goal of preserving and educating the community about our native greenscapes in and around Wilkes-Barre and other urbanized areas.
