(0 – 11:31) Swings for Snake committee members Joe Culp and Mike Longfoot come in the studio to discuss their 3rd annual Swings for Snake tournament, taking place September 28th at Kirby Park. The tournament was founded following in the memory of Longfoot’s brother, Jacob “Snake” Longfoot Jr, and proceeds benefit his two children, as well as other community groups. An avid softball lover, it was only fitting to hold a softball tournament in his name, which will run at Kirby Park, as well as Coal Street Park and the Kingston Rec Center. There will also be Raffles, Gift Cards of Chance, Food trucks and more. In addition to the softball tournament on the 28th two additional events will also be held at Kirby Park on September 21 – a Cornhole Tournament and home run derby. (11:32 – 21:22) Osterhout Free Library Dir. Of Development and Community Relations Michelle Riley joins the show to talk about this year’s fundraising Gala, Raffle and auction. One of the library’s biggest fundraisers of the year, this year’s gala theme is “An Evening in the Secret Garden” with a raffle prize consisting of an all-expense trip for 2 to Ashville, NC! Tickets are still available to both the gala and raffle which will be held September 6th. Proceeds are used for the library’s general fund, which offers a massive array of you and adult programming for the community, as well as their “Library of Things”, WiFi Hotspot rentals and more! In addition patrons can preview items that will be available for bid during the auction, which runs from September 3-7! Plus, be on the lookout for their annual Brewsterhout Rooftop Party! (23 – 30) - The Wyoming Valley Run kicks off on September 1st, and Gareth Henderson comes in the studio to tell us all about it! The 10 miles run starts in downtown Pittston and stretches across the Susquehanna River and through the West Side before finishing on Public Square – all while benefitting 5 local charities! This year’s recipients include Blue Chip Animal Refuge, Cancer Wellness Center of NEPA, the Greater Wyoming Valley YMCA, Northeast Sight Services and Wyoming Valley Children’s Association!
