(0 – 15:00) We have officially entered fall – the busiest time of year for the Friends of the Poor and the Family to Family Food Basket Program! Members Linda Robeson and Meghan Loftus join us in the studio to discuss several free community events that will be getting underway this fall, starting with a Family to Family Fundraiser at Cooper’s Seafood in Scranton! You can grab a pint of soup for just $10, or take a chance at several raffle baskets or giftcard board through Sunday, October 20th. Proceeds raised will directly benefit the program and their Thanksgiving Community Program, which provides several community services to the less fortunate throughout the holiday. The organizations begin the week of Thanksgiving with an Interfaith Prayer Service before providing roughly 4,000 hot Thanksgiving Meals to those in need, then donating around another 4,000 baskets full of food so underprivileged families can prepare a Thanksgiving Meal at home. (16:24 – 30) Jon Casey joins us in the studio to discuss his new nonprofit idea, Build N Athlete. Currently making it way through nonprofit status, the idea for Build N Athlete is to assist families in purchasing athletic supplies for their children. The group started in the Valley View school district and has spread to the surrounding areas. Casey hopes to spread the group across NEPA and is also working on #OperationTouchGrass – an initiative that gets kids off screens and the couch and outdoors and in local sports.
