Gary, Indiana went without power for two weeks following major storms, much longer than surrounding areas. The city has a population of 70K, 80% of whom are Black. As the food in their fridge rotted and temperatures soared, conditions became dire. Gary’s mayor, Eddie Melton, joins NLP to explain the situation.

—The Washington Post has been to reinstate opinion columnist Karen Attiah. Karen was fired for a post she made after Charlie Kirk was killed.

 

–The New York Times has been ordered to pay former college basketball player Kai Spears $9.25 million in damages, the first time the paper has lost a defamation lawsuit in more than 50 years. 

 

–The Iran War is entering its sixth month. The Trump administration is pivoting back to economic warfare. 

 

–Two unvaccinated people have died from measles in Pennsylvania, the first recorded measles deaths in Pennsylvania in 35 years.

 

–Hakeem Jeffries took a meeting with Jared Kushner this week which the House Minority leader received a lot of heat for. 

 

–Target has officially apologized for a racist costume on their website that was compared to black-face before being taken down. 

 

–California makes progress in reparations.
