The late FedEx entrepreneur Fred Smith's wife, Diane Smith, donated $50 million to the Memphis Zoo in order to draw in an additional $50 million, making it the greatest contribution in zoo history. The zoo said that the funds would be used to start the first phase of the overall campus plan, which will start with a redesigned Africa exhibit.
