The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) recently issued a notification mentioning about new safety rules for children below four years of age riding pillion on two-wheelers. As per the new traffic rules, riders are required to use helmets and harness belts for children. Speed limit has to be 40 kmph. In case of violation, a fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed on violators and driving license will be suspended for three months. The Government of India amended the Central Motor Vehicles Act to include the new rule for better safety of children riding a two-wheeler as pillion.
