WHO DECLARES MONKEYPOX A GLOBAL HEALTH EMERGENCY AS INFECTIONS SOAR
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the monkeypox outbreak in more than 70 countries an “emergency of international concern”
" WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference. So far this year, there have been more than 16,000 cases of monkeypox in more than 75 countries.
Governments are advised to raise awareness among doctors and hospitals, take protective measures in suspected cases and educate members of the population on how to protect themselves from infection.
The first symptoms of monkeypox are fever, headaches, muscle pain and back pain during the course of five days. Rashes subsequently appear on the face, the palms of hands and the soles of feet, followed by lesions, spots and finally scabs.
