The state of Utah in the United States is now the first to sign a law that will require parental consent before children below the age of 18 can create a social media account.
The law will give parents full access to their children’s accounts including private messages. The new bill which kicks-in in 2024 will set a curfew for children which will see them only able to be on social media between 10:30pm and 6:30am.
Social media firms will also not be allowed to collect the data of children on their platforms and use it for targeted marketing purposes.
